yknow I was seriously considering that. I'm starting to think it's not worth the time and effort it would take to downgrade from leopard to tiger. I tried to boot from the tiger install disc and it said it could not be installed on the macbook. It doesn't even let me get to the options. Before it starts anything it says it cannot be installed.

I think I'm just going to pick up some extra ram for it. I haven't noticed any problems with leopard yet (aside from it being slow).

Anyone know what the max amount of ram is for this laptop? (specs are above)

EDIT: nvm.. found it (2gb max) http://support.apple.com/specs/macbook/macbook.html

Ah, yeah, i guess you'd have to due a format and install, then. Leopard with more RAM is the better option. Take it to 2 GB if you can, that way you'll (she'll) get the best experience (after this one which should have been better!).

just wanted to conclude this fiasco. I bought the new RAM -- upgrade to 2GB (which is the max for that laptop). Everything works fine!
