Not to burst your bubble, but the new one is likely going to do the same thing. The genius was an @ss to you, but when you angle the 15'' unibody mbp up past 45degrees, the lid shuts itself. It's the crappy hinge design.

mine doesnt. it is perfect

Mine doesn't close no matter what angle it's at.

Of course of course. Everyone's screen is perfect. Not everyone will see this as an issue, and it happens most often when the screen isn't all the way open. Go into any apple store anywhere in the world, and 9 out of 10 15'' umbp's will do this. Did i just make a claim that I can't support? you betcha. But go into an apple store and prove me wrong :)

My Oct08 15" does it, however my Jun09 13" doesn't. I haven't had a chance to go and try a Jun09 15". After owning the 13", I'm never going back to a 15" (of which my current 15" is my work machine).

All I can hope for is that they eventually offer 1440x900 in the 13". :D

Also, VERY surprising that they're giving you a new one. But like Jottle said, strong chance that the next one is going to do the same. If you wish to use your computer in bed with the computer on your lap/knees which on an angle, MacBook Pro is not for you.

My wife constantly uses her 17" MBP in bed with her knees up - screen never closes.

Not sure if difference in 17" vs. 15" and ours is matte. But if the screen won't hold itself open, I think that would be a major annoyance.

It probably would be an annoyance if you like to use your computer in that position no doubts about it but to call it a "problem"? Apple manufactured a laptop with a screen that opens and stays open on and closes and remains closed that's all it's suppose to do but when people start doing things with it and it doesn't satisfy them, they call it a problem. I'm glad that some users and the newer portables don't have this problem but it wasn't a problem to begin with it just didn't meet the needs of the user.
