I have a late 2016 15" and in two month I got to replace two keys and all the other keys feels like there's gonna break -_-
[doublepost=1525633542][/doublepost]I have the 2016 touch bar macbook pro and I'm on my second keyboard. I tried to post about this on the forums at apple, but they deleted my post. I'm thinking it's a known issue that they don't want to pay for.

I've had my MPP with TP returned twice to Apple - to be fair they've been really good, despite it being out of warranty, they've replaced the whole top section - keyboard, battery, trackpad and casing - both times.

It doesn't, however, assuage my worries about future failures... the keyboard seems very likely to failure... it's very delicate and susceptible to micro invasion...

It may not sound like it but I'm a big time Apple Fan... Shame they f***ed up the keyboard in this MPP and SIRI in EVERYTHING !

So now my two ports on the right side are not working. :(

Yep, we have had that. In the two instances, it has also been one port on the right side. Also, for what it is worth, the ports are getting very loose. Would not yet state cables fall out, but the day is likely not too far away.

While I haven't had issues with these, I know several people who have and it's been a disappointing experience for them

this fail rate should be alarming for Apple and I hope they do something about these outrageous repair prices.

hehe...this is a problem ? We want always perfection it seems.

Apple once again rubs onto us more...

Now a high pitched fan noise THAT would be a issue. As more of a troubleshooting concern. It's not like the keyboard doesn't work at all..

Ya, its not supposed to be like that, but i wouldn't be exactly loosing sleep over it either. I suppose, people could just use a Bluetooth keyboard now in the mean time if it really concerns users.

Well, yes there are always work arounds.

However, for our group this version of the MBP, we stared with the Titanium 15" in 2000 with the bezel issue, this has been by far the worst experience. The multiple keyboard replacements, the ports, the accidents caused by returning to non-magsafe, and the software glitches with the current OS have all combined to create an at best "average" user experience.

Do we lose sleep from worrying about the issues? No. However, we do lose sleep when we have to send in machines for repair and this causes issues with deadlines for work. ....... From maxed out MBP's and Apple we expect more.

My ports are loose, and I’ve had to reset nvram repeatedly to get the ports working again after they stop.

And my “b” key randomly skips or double-types.

These things are a hot mess.

Are you really going to downplay a keyboard problem for a computer that starts at 1500$? The thing that didn't have a lot of problems with in the 2015 models? The thing even Windows laptops of today are getting right? The thing that Google has figured out with their Pixelbook? The thing that is one of the most used parts of the computer?

Is that what you're downplaying?

"We expect more"

Agreed. A person shouldn't be in the position to buy a 3k$ computer and get a keyboard that can't handle a single crumb under a key, and has to have the entire keyboard replaced (that's 700$ or so outside of warranty because it's the entire top case) if and when it finally screws up.

Following up on this as I have yet to touch my original keyboard from my Late 2016 Macbook Pro non touch bar model. Like most, I have been annoyed with the new and improved loud keyboard. But a more severe problem is the stickiness of the keys and spacebar over time. Now that Apple has finally acknowledged there is an issue and the new 2018 Macbook Pro's have a seemingly 'fixed' keyboard, I am going in for service under the new program issued 2018-06-22:

https://www.apple.com/support/keyboard-service-program-for-macbook-and-macbook-pro/

The replacement keyboard comes in next week so I will update on whether or not Apple is replacing the old keyboard with the new 2018 Macbook Pro keyboard that is less clicky and sticky. I hope that is the case.

Do remember to offer your feedback on the same. Would love to know if they have the new keyboard or are giving the 2017 ones. I got mine replaced in May, and the battery is December 2017. Can't say if the keyboard has silicone or not. How to test!

I would be highly surprised if that's the case

Am having a good discussion with my repair service provider and they are not sure what the supposed fix is for my 2nd gen. butterfly keyboard. They had a good laugh when they saw the fix implemented in the 3rd gen., the only difference* is a silicone band-aid around the keys.

*Looks like the keys are slightly thinner and a spacebar redesign to make the keys easier to remove. And Apple confirmed that the repair for 2nd gen keyboards will not be 2018 keyboard replacements.

Will update in about a week.

Update.
Just got my computer back. Even though the technician advised me that my replacement keyboard would be exactly the same version that I had previous because it shares the same Apple part number for a Late 2016 Macbook Pro, I can say with confidence that my keyboard is a 100% different keyboard than the original.

Noise Level
The noise level from typing is subdued enough that it makes a noticeable difference. The sound when typing is not as high pitched and 'clacky' as before it is now deeper and much softer. I can finally type at night without having to worry about waking up the baby or during a meeting without having people giving me awkward looks. I'm totally serious here and not overreacting.

New Keys
The control and option keys are the newer 2017 US version. There is some debate on this as my replacement happened outside of the US and the technician informed me that Apple supplies them with International keyboard versions. And I have read that some people in the US are getting the exact same keyboards so YMMV.

Lower Profile
The keys also feel different when typing and I would venture to say, lower profile with less travel needed to push the keys. This difference in feel is VERY slight but is also noticeable having been on my 2016 keyboard for 1.5years+.

Extras
Also important to point out that with the keyboard comes a sparkling new topcase, trackpad, battery (2 cycles, 102% health, manufactured Nov. 17, 2017, 8.1 months old) and new speakers. Sweet!

Sticky Keys
Of course since it is new I don't have any issues with sticky keys... yet.

Its probably not 2018, it most likely is 2017. It is definitely improved though. I am definitely not going to be taking my machine apart to check on details. Will leave that for another brave soul.

Which do your keys closely resemble? When I got a replacement to my keyboard this May (before the program) I got a replacement made in December 2017. I have the 2017 keyboard. You too should be having the same.

If not.. Imma screw Apple.
