and this is the golden standard for almost every 'smartTV' apps. it's a never-ending torture by all means. usually disconnected navigation, crappy and inconsistent UI, no switching between 'apps'... god, i'd love to have a dumb tv that only displays the signal from a single HDMI connection.
Why not just use the TV as a dumb TV? I use my ATV4K remote for everything, hardly ever touch the TV’s remote. I’ve never started Netflix or any of the other apps on the TV - all on the AppleTV.

Just downloaded the app on my C8 in Australia. Wasn’t AirPlay 2 supposed to be coming to these TVs as well?

To the Sony people complaining that they are slow - I have two Samsung TVs - 4K, Series 8 and I have 0 hope that an apple TV app will ever come to my TV

I hope that means some Sony TVs will start getting it soon. I've got a x950g and airplaying shows from Apple TV+ is super wonky for some reason. It will just randomly crop up some of the video.

Is this a Sony initiative or an Apple one? In other words, who's courting who? Is there a cost associated to have AppleTV on your TV or is Sony paying to have it on there?

Just successfully installed on my UK C8.
Go to LG content/Apps and search for Apple TV.
Logged in and played the Matrix. Plays in 4K dolby vision and dolby atmos comes up on the soundbar.

It would be handy if they added Airplay 2 to their 2018 etc soundbars as well.

There is more chance they would play in sync with homepods (sending direct to soundbar rather than tv then soundbar).

This would free up a homepod for another room.

Finally! Now my AppleTV 4K can move to the “dumb TV” in the game room.
This is exactly what I’m doing now. I’ve set it up (and all the other apps), and it all works just fine on my 55SK8500PLA. Never really used the smart tv to its fullest, but now everything’s on there it’s be a bit silly not to.

Although I can’t fully understand this move by Apple, because now I won’t need to buy the new Apple TV when it comes out...

I would think it’s an Apple one considering Sony’s run stock Android TV. So I think it’s A matter of Apple simply developing for the platform, not just the specific TV.

I've said this before on these forums and I'll say it again. There's absolutely no reason whatsoever that Apple TV+ can't come to LG sets earlier than 2018. I have a 2017 model. It can access Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, BBC iPlayer, NowTV and many many others. It supports Dolby Vision and happily streams 4K HDR content.

If the Disney+ app has been made available for my LG in recent months then there's no reason at all why AppleTV+ can't be added too.

It's a simple case of me and many people like me simply not subscribing to AppleTV+ without this being made available on the TV sets we own that could very easily support it.

This showed up this morning on my 2018 LG 55" OLED. Cool.

Silly question, but when you say “showed up” does that mean it appeared without you having to find the app on the store?

I’ve seen a few people that said they searched the store but a lot of others use wording that makes me think it will turn up on it’s own?

Just asking as it’s still not available on my 55UK6470PLC and I’m going mental searching the store every half hour and I’m trying to work out if that’s unnecessary.

I also do the same. But still the tv loads all the crappy software and I have to wait. Besides it is totally pointless to pay extra for the “smarts” they so heavily claim to deliver If I don’t need it. I know it sounds stupid, but there”s no other option available. I’ll love to pay less for less.
otoh, the tv industry keeps spitting out newer and newer models with the expected lifespan of a butterfly each year, whereas the display should deliver the functionality for multiple (5-10) years. Crippling it on the software side is the worst thing can happen. Beyond evil.

Sorry to barge in but here in the U.K., on my B8, I turned the tv on and a notification popped up to tell me the app was now available. It was already on the tv menu but required an update.

Super annoying that slightly older but capable models are left out in the air. I have a C7 that I absolutely love - would kill to be able to watch my older iTunes TV and movie library on the thing.

Yep I've got three big LG TVs and find them super fast and smooth with Apps - very pleased with them.
Same here. One of my Sony is getting slower and slower. Never buying another Sony again

For me it just showed up as a new item, no need to install it. And today a notification came on screen that Apple TV was available.
