Story we've seen so many times before, now everyone criticizing and soon all lining up to buy, we bet? 🤣
I kind of think most people are eager to drive the vision Pro to all of its future potential, right now. Going to frustrate some people for sure. But, as is, if you accept it this way without reservation it’s pretty nice having around. I keep thinking of new things to do with it.it’s going to be an adventurous thing to own for the next year or two and a lot of fun to see what it will do next, as development moves forward, if you enjoy that sort of thing.

Whenever I get tired of the growing pains of it all, I just put on a movie in one of the Disney theaters and it reminds me of massive potential somehow.

Tiny sliver? That's disingenuous. I've only seen a tiny sliver of people who are sold on the experience, and from what I can tell there is a lot of self-convincing going on there as well.
That is disingenuous to use your personal opinion and anecdote to make up statistics.

I think Rene had a good point… in order to get to Iron Man level of interacting with objects in that one scene when he was building the suit, or even in Minority Report when Tom Cruise was using those screens. Apple (and the industry) need to start somewhere.
I agree with this part. I don't want it as it is now. I want what it could potentially be years from now.

I'm not even slightly interested in its starting form. I didn't buy this and I won't be. If it gets to the point where it's no different than putting on a pair of glasses...instant add to cart! I like the technology...just not interested in the current form.

At all, people were amazed by the iPhone. It was simple to use and you could access all the web, maps and youtube

AVP is nothing like the iPhone, it has lots of compromises

The first iPhone was also full of compromises. We here in Europe already had “3,5G” for example and the iPhone was a laughing 2g, Symbian had apps you can install, etc. I loved it but It was a two steps forward one stap back product.

But besides that people are also amazed by the Vision Pro.

And for people who are not amazed, just don’t by it or return it if you bought it. People who are amazed did not need convincing by people who don’t. The world is not that hard.

In fact, the iPhone is a very bad product. It's nothing more than a phone without a physical keyboard. There's nothing special about it, and there's no innovation on it. All the technologies it has are already available before.

Not sure about that. I’ve been using my AVP to work and entertain. My last AR/VR experience was with Microsoft’s HaloLens. The hand gestures took a few to learn. More complicated than what Apple has here. When I’ve let members of my family, one of which is not technically inclined, use guest mode, they pick it up pretty fast.

Comparing the initial iPhone to what we have with the AVP, it has actual apps whee the iPhone somewhat relied on “web apps”. I still use one today - DateWheel. Photos were super cool as were the iPod capabilities. Today, the apps for AVP are very useful and have tons of promise. Photos, especially panorama, are unlike anything else. The sound is incredible.

Trying to explain it to people who haven’t used the AVP, possibly more than the short demo at an Apple Store, it’s hard. One thing I came up with is at work, you may have one or more monitors to work off of. With many apps open, you may use Alt-Tab a lot. With the AVP, you have the world. You have many monitors of varying sizes. You aren’t limited to room size either. Was sitting next to a widow to my left the other day. Had one of my programs outside my widow. Was eerie, cool, etc. If I am in a 8’x8’ room and want to watch a theater sized movie, I can.

To be honest, I’m at the point where I’m not sure if I can return this thing when 14/15 days come to an end. Aside from all the coolness of just using it, I’m enjoying the privacy from prying eyes.

I think the current main use cases for this is single people and/or people that don’t really interact with anyone at home and travelers. For those people, they have a movie theater, a bigger screen for their Macbook, and a more immersive iPad. It is probably worth it to those type of people that can afford the high price tag. I can also just see it as a rich persons toy, being used in some businesses, and something to dig into for those first adopter types.

We will see how this evolves, but I don’t see goggles being commonplace for most people that have families they interact with. It’s too isolating. The cost/benefit just doesn’t make sense for most people. Maybe when they shrink it down to glasses, make it more affordable, allow for multiple laptop screens, and make it less of a walled in product, it will become more mainstream. Until then, it will be a niche product, but at $3500+, I think they will make enough profit on these things to continue developing until they get to a product that serves more of the market ( or another company will step in and figure it out).

You have some very valid points. The isolation part is one of my concerns and I'm being pretty observant of the reactions from those in my house. Today, I'm going to test it out a little more with watching the Super Bowl.

In some ways, I want isolation. It's great having screens prying eyes can't see. It is unnerving in that I keep asking myself if they can see the screens floating in air (I know they can't but still). Examples:

  • Looking for gifts. Birthday, Valentine's, etc.
  • Writing out what I'd put on a card first (Valentines) as I've gotten to the point where I need to type and retype my thoughts to write the best message.
  • When the MIL comes by, there are shows I'd watch that she won't like. So now, I can have what I want, the TV has something that pleases her while we are in the same room. I can still see her, and others, interacting.
  • At times, work related stuff - the kids come home from school and I'm in the middle of something confidential, they inevitably look over my shoulder "hey what are you doing?".
On the "Bigger screen for their MacBook" comment, I have two 25" monitors for my work (Windows) laptop. I'm finding having anywhere in space to place a window is so much better. I use Alt-Tab a lot with the two monitors. Now, I just move my head, grab what I want to work with next, and move on. It's been great so far.

The VP is expensive, even by laptop standards. So it isn't for everyone, yet. But I feel being in the position to help make this better so it can get to more people is something I'd like to do. We'll see if I feel the same way in a week or so.

Lol. I feel like I’m the only person in America that still loves my AVP after I receiving it on Feb 3rd. I see potential in it and want to come along for the software improvements journey throughout the year. Then again, I’m used to headsets since I still use my Quest 3 on a daily basis. They both serve their purpose for me. I do think Apple can resolve the “isolation” issue by allowing the app BigScreen VR in the App Store or creating an app like Meta Horizon Worlds.

Right now, I am so POed at Apple for not allowing me to download Paramount+ app from the App store.

What happened to the App store search field ?

The app store search option is on the menu on the left side of the app store. It’s the search icon.

It's funny, I had to sign out of my Apple ID and sign into my second ID in order to get that search function to work.

And every time I take it off to make/receive a voice call on my iPhone because the iPhone is not integrated; VP loses network connection, asks for a PIN code, and then optically signs you in.

It's getting very tiring having to go thru all the hoops to view.

Why can't Apple just allow easy seamless integration with their own ecosystem ?

I have two Apple ID’s too. Mainly due to not doing what I should have done when they changed to “icloud”. Have to log in to both when I get a new device. BUT - since I used my iPhone to configure my AVP, didn’t have that issue.

I used my iPhone which has 2 IDs (iCloud & Media purchases) and used it to activate the AVP.

AVP won't allow 2 Apple IDs like my phone - why is that ?

Not sure if this is what you're referring to, but I use two Apple IDs on my AVP, one for iCloud, and another for media and services. I've been doing this on my Macs, iPads, and iPhones for years.

More iPad. I travel a lot and only bring my iPad, now I am only bringing my Vision Pro. The amazing thing is I get severe motion sickness and I have spent hours on this thing with no motion sickness, even walking around. The head straps taking adjusting like when you buy a new car and have to keep adjusting the seat until you get the right position. Love this device. I am going to sell my iPad.
This is exactly what I wanted to hear. Basic web is more than ok for me right now + I get motion sickness here and there too, so I'll definitely give this a go. Thanks!

We all have found ways to shop for wives and that type of thing without them noticing prior to VP. The iPhone is portable which makes it pretty easy. Yes, if you want isolation from your family, while having your body in the same room, this is one way to do it. I can't imagine that would be ideal in the long run. Yes, if you had something private on the screen, this would keep it private, but not sure its worth the trade off...assuming people will want to use it enough to make the high price tag worthwhile.

What I was referring to regarding the computer screens is that you can only have one from your Mac (at the current time). For those that use multiple screens for final cut, photoshop, Lightroom, etc.... having a screen from an iPad app to the side doesn't help with the workflow. I am sure they will remedy this at some point, but it's an issue now. Also, you mentioned your Windows laptop for work, this can't work as a monitor with them. This needs to be fixed down the road to make this more mainstream. I also use Macs at home and Windows for work and something like this, in theory, could eventually replace my fixed monitors, but not if it doesn't work with Windows.

By your last sentence, you fit into the first adopter types I mentioned above. This is definitely a product for first adopters since it is a new lane for Apple. It is why I am interested in it, but have no desire to have one until a lot of issues with the device are resolved (weight, battery cable, battery life, goggles, price, etc). I might be just as happy with much cheaper, lighter glasses that simply work as monitors for all my computers, iPad, etc. As I have mentioned in the past, it will come down to developers and whether they can make something only for this OS that is so groundbreaking that it makes the trade offs worthwhile for a mainstream audience. I haven't seen it yet, but this product is just one foot outside the gate, so we will see where it goes.

Give it a try. You have 14 days to return if you don't like it. I would do an in store pickup so they can check the sizing.

I was certain that I would return it. But after using it for over a week I've decided to keep it. It has flaws, but there is no doubt that spatial computing is going to be prominent in Apple's future plans. After testing the latest Vision OS betas things have improved. The one issue that still bothers me is the glare that comes from pancake lenses....but that's just the nature of that technology. If Apple pushes this platform forward, we could see something truly magical in the future.
