Of course they don’t get paid by Apple.

But they “get paid”

They’re scared of Apple not liking their videos and risking their relationship with Apple so maybe on the next launch Apple won’t send them the product earlier and they will lose views/money

Plus other guidelines they might have to follow
Certainly, but that's a different situation than what was implied in the previous comment. Discounting their reviews entirely (like some people in this thread do), just because they are a select group of early reviewers is probably being overly critical. They at least have experience reviewing, unlike many people here on MacRumors or Reddit. They also usually receive some direct answers from Apple when they have questions. This helps them not jump to conclusions about something. There is generally bias but they are independent from Apple. If the reviewers consistently were negative about Apple devices, they'd stop getting access to the products early, but Apple doesn't regularly release products that are objectively "bad".

For the record, I rarely watch video reviews of any Apple products. If I pay attention to a review, it's a highly technical one from a source like Anandtech.

Let's be honest. Apple must have had doubts about Vision Pro and the possible negative reception from the public, otherwise they'd have ramped up production and sent it to all corners of the globe on day one.

Even some of those that made a huge scene about it being the best thing in the world are now saying it's uncomfortable, but justify that by talking about a future product that probably won't exist for years (or ever). lol.

It's a no from me, Apple.

Think your logic its flawed. This is an add to already struggling manufacturing. If you've seen the breakdowns, it's pretty complex to put together. More so, than an iPhone. And controlled rollouts for everything is the norm. From OS updates to new products. It allows limited resources to address concerns. And the staff, who have never supported the VP, aren't as proficient with doing so. They are learning too. To roll this out world-wide would have been a grave mistake.

Wearable computers has been a topic for decades. The VP is the closest thing we've gotten to a useful product. Google should have kept up with the Google Glass. The tech may not have been there at the time, but they were going down the right path. I can't wait for what the future holds, now that Apple is in the game in a big way.

Whether VR headsets before have been able to technically do various things appears to be irrelevant. The 'killer app' is the VisonOS design and the ecosystem integration. This device is intended to become a seamless part of your life, not merely a 'tech tool'.

(... speaking as someone who hasn't put one on his head yet.)

You're confused because you're intending to be confused, so allow me to clear things up to you.

This is "the future" because as soon as you've actually experienced "spatial computing" it's the only want I want to work. Sure, I'm more than likely going to want a mouse and keyboard still for intensive, or highly specific tasks, but being able to organize everything I'm using/doing in my entire environment, including contextually (ie, I create a window in my kitchen but then leave and come back to my sofa, that window is still there when I return).

It's a first step, and like the first iPod, iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch, it's big and chunky, it's missing a lot of features that could make it amazing, but you can absolutely see the potential. I'll admit too, after an hour, it's uncomfortable to wear, but man, get this into regular sized glasses, or even better, a contact lens, and the world will be forever changed.

Comments like this make this clear. And I don't think prior use of a VR headset belittles this viewpoint.

Ninethirty, if you get the chance, watch Swan Song on Apple TV+. I've been raving for years how this was essentially the vision that Apple is going for and it's been in our faces our whole time. You can't convince me otherwise that there were at least few design tips passed from Apple HQ to the filmmakers...

I'll add my 0.02 to the conversation as I've enjoyed lurking for a couple days reading what people have had to say.
👍
Thanks for taking the time to do the review.

If there had been a UK release I definitely would have gone for a demo—no intention of buying as I need the bucks for other stuff—but just to know where we are heading… or not.

Found I was pinching my thumb and middle finger instead of my index finger. I knew the right way, so this was strange to me. Why was my natural inclination to use my middle finger?
Curious about your fingers when using pinching to select.

With my Apple Watch U2 I also use my thumb and middle finger… instead of my index finger—it just feels more intuitive to me.
🙂

I did the demo on Saturday and decided to buy it afterwards. I'm impressed, but not enough to want to keep it. The FOV is not what I expected. The pass through is not bad, but not as good as I'd expect for the price point. For me, the price means I need to really love this thing to justify it to myself, and it's just not there yet. I'll be returning mine in a few days.

The VP uses cameras to see what you are doing with your hands. It can tell what finger’s you are using vs the Apple Watch using sensors.

Is cool the VP can tell specifically what you are doing as it opens the door for accuracy using other gestures that are sure to come.

Reviewers and YouTubers are just paid shills from Apple. I still don't understand why people watch and posts their reviews as if they are telling the truth.
If that's true, then all you naysayers are paid shills from Meta. You can't swing the conspiracy sword without cutting off your own self at the knees.

Google's business model wouldn't let them continue with glass. Google makes consumer products for Google's use in serving advertisers. Apple makes consumers devices for the consumer's use. Apple has a history of making their products better. Google has a history of canceling products if version 1 doesn't catch on. It's the difference between Boomer culture (Apple) and Gen X culture (Google).

If this was $1500, i’d be more than happy to accept all of its shortcomings

I'm more disappointed by how bad pass through looks than the FOV. if it were crystal clear, the FOV wouldn't be a big deal to me (just like wearing big goggles or something). but it's quite grainy and every time you move everything gets blurry as hell.

That made me smile.

No really, you think all the folk on here that are not 100% positive about the AVP are being paid by Meta?

Sheesh. However did I miss out? 🤷🏻‍♂️
I do all my negativity and snark for free!

Edit:
You don't perhaps know how I can contact Zuckerberg to get me on the payroll, do you?

Edit 2:
On second thought, since Meta know everything about me, apparently, I'm sure they'll flag this post and I'll be hearing from them soon. *kaching*! 👍

Keep using it and see if it changes your feelings on it. After the first day I wasn’t thinking I was gonna keep it, but now four days in and I’m really starting to love it. I don’t think I would want to give it up at this point. Around the house I’m already starting to use it more than my iPhone and MacBook. The weight no longer bothers me and I can comfortably wear it for about six hours or so with no problems (did that for work yesterday).

I think you missed the point he was making. In fact, you made it for him.

I didn't want this to happen but somehow I was expecting it.
And it's just Day 1.

It's not enough that it's the best headset on the market in terms of software and hardware; it still has many of the problems that similar devices have.

Note that we're talking about a device that starts at $3800. When the honeymoon period is over, returns are going to be massive.

I didn't really expect so many disappointed people on Day 1:
I know that a lot of people are disappointed and return any other type of device (phones, computers, etc.), so it is no wonder they prefer to return a device that is in many ways revolutionary and unknown like the AVP. This seems obvious to me. Besides, we are talking about the very first generation of AVP. As for the price, it is certainly high but I wonder if the same people who are surprised by its price are also "shocked" by the price of designer bags etc. or even of the price of the first macs.

That made me smile.

No, I was demonstrating the absurdity of a previous comment which contended that all reviewers are being paid by Apple.

Sheesh. However did I miss out? 🤷🏻‍♂️

As well you should. It is your gift to the world.

If I had Zuckerberg's contact information, I'm not sure I would have it for long if I gave it out. LOL

They won't contact you directly, but you may start noticing a curious shift in the nature of the ads you receive on Facebook. Then again, they already have you analyzed, sorted, and spindled.

The AVP it’s an amazing piece of tech but it’s not worth all the hassle and the price for 99% of people.

I only see 3 types of users that might take advantage of the AVP:

-the business man/youtuber with confidential information that is always traveling by plane/train and needs to work on the plane without nobody seeing his work

-a person that travels a lot by plane/train and wants to be entertained

-A person that is always traveling around the world and wants to have his setup wherever he goes

Pretty specific use cases in my opinion and the reason this product will fail in its current state

TL;DR: buyers remorse intensifying

I feel like there are a few things that cuts this into some pretty identifiable pieces:
  1. People who really couldn't afford it and got it
  2. People whose expectations were VERY high
If you can't spend the $3500-$4K for the device without it "hurting" then I would question if you should be making the purchase to begin with. It doesn't mean you don't care about spending the money, it just means it shouldn't be a burden. I think a lot of people spent money they didn't have and now feel like the device needs to justify their bad decision. It likely won't, and that is a good thing, and they should be returning the device and putting the money back in the bank.

But beyond that, I think it has a LOT to do with expectations. Maybe Apple added more hype than they should have, I am not sure. I can tell you that I am loving every second of the device. I have only been able to use it for a short time, but I can't imagine a time where I am not loving it. My wife is good with tech but not a techy person. She has already asked about how much it costs because she wants one 🤣

Maybe because we don't have extensive VR experience our perspective is different, but for me it isn't about anything specific but more of this being the start of what is to come. I had smartphones for years before the iPhone came out. But when it came out it was the start of "Smartphones" despite them already existing. I feel like this is the same now for VR/XR/AR. Apple has chosen this time to enter the market. This means they have a product pipeline for YEARS down the road. They have a software pipeline for YEARS down the road. That is exciting. Just like where the iPhone went, the Vision Pro will go somewhere and I can't wait to see where that is.

If my expectation was that it was ($500 for Meta $3500 for Apple) x7 better than a different VR headset and I needed to justify that, I would probably not like it. If my expectation was a Apple-esk implementation of a VR headset with a huge future ahead of it and the ability to connect to the masses....expectation met.

This should have been a real
computer like the Mac or at least have first class integration with macOS. So disappointing.
I would have preferred a macOS variant as well, but I also know that that would have taken a lot more work to get an ecosystem functioning with it. being able to connect to my Mac though is working quite well. At some point getting dual displays off my Mac would be ideal, but that’s about the only thing I could really want right now, at least for my workflows.

I was initially feeling like I was going to return but as I use it more, I find myself more and more excited about using it and finding workarounds to the limitations. As of now, I may keep it unless I find a dealbreaker in the next week and half.

People who own it: Is this good as an entry-level computer? This device sounds ideal for me, but is the experience more iPad-like or more MacOS-like?

More iPad. I travel a lot and only bring my iPad, now I am only bringing my Vision Pro. The amazing thing is I get severe motion sickness and I have spent hours on this thing with no motion sickness, even walking around. The head straps taking adjusting like when you buy a new car and have to keep adjusting the seat until you get the right position. Love this device. I am going to sell my iPad.

At the end of the day, if it was truly comfortable to wear most of the other issues that seem to be subjective to different experiences wouldn’t be as big of a deal. It does a lot right and I wanted to want it. I was already convinced and I own a PSVR2. But the light seal is not a good design. I don’t find it heavy, I just find it impossible to find a good seal while also maintaining comfort. Not sure why the seal needs to be so rigid. There’s nothing conforming about it.
