The interface is fine. It takes some time getting used to looking at something and pressing the fingers in that order, I think people are too used to how fast it is to point and click then look away, so the tapping sometimes misses.

What really amazes is how sharp and detailed the resolution is. Playing 3D videos, 360 videos and viewing panoramas like you’re really there really stand out to me from an experience point of view.

Maybe people are not using it for those use cases?
My experience is great too.

I would not trust reddit. Lots of fake posters who don’t even own one but spreading hates around.

This is definitely the future. We’ll take this setup for granted in 10 years. Maybe sooner. As the form factor continues to improve, we're going to have augmented screens all over our lives. Just wait til targeted advertising gets their hands on it 🤦‍♂️
I'm all for AR and hope the future brings back Google's AR glasses. I feel that's the best implementation for merging AR into daily life in an unobtrusive way. I like how a Verge review stated, "Vision Pro is VR masquerading as AR" because you're still looking at everything through cameras, along with inherent limitations of cameras such as blur and noise in low light.

Now that Samsung revealed transparent microLED displays at CES, maybe someday we'll have AR with native optical clarity rather than watching the world through cameras instead of our own eyes.

No clue. But if I have looked away for a split second and that is why it clicks the wrong thing then they never should have released this.
That’s how it works. You have to look for it to know what you want to select. I think it works amazing. But right now it’s only useful as a consumption device. I wouldn’t use it for computing.

I do apologize for raining on the parade of others. I hear what you're saying and also subscribe to live and let live. I am guilty of some hypocrisy here.

I really am trying to gleam some useful insight from owners yet even the ones that try to talk up the Vision Pro are doing a poor job of selling the device. But you're right, to each their own. 👍
I recommend going for a demo if you’re near an Apple Store - I think that’s probably the best way to make a more informed decision.

Depending on your use case - maybe bring your MacBook too if you’re thinking of projecting your screen on the AVP… I’m not too sure if it’s ready for prime time honestly.

I think the “wow” factor of the movies and 3D stuff is strong, and it’s great to see panoramas as you took them, but a lot of this is just indulgence / entertainment, the “pro” factor - admittedly I’m not really seeing it yet. The app ecosystem is really very young and the ”pinch” interface - well I know you can link a keyboard, but yeah this needs more investigation to prove its worth.

MKBHD posited a nice use case of editing videos on a plane by linking to a MacBook Pro - this could work - but yeah you’d need to be travelling a lot to make it worthwhile for that specific use case.

Just my opinion but the wow factory is coming through in the quality of the screens you can produce. It's incredibly high, clear, and you can make them as big as a movie screen if you wanted to and place it wherever you want your field of vision. You can then black out your surroundings and make it almost like a movie screen. All of this on just simple YouTube videos. Sure you have your tv screen at home, but the flexibility in pulling up and adjusting all of this content and resizing it to massive screens right in your office is super impressive.

And then there are the videos like the Alycia keys demo that literally makes it feel like she is singing to you. The immersion is so strong you feel like you are sitting right there in the recording room and your brain can't understand why the smell isn't there with the sights. It really feels like you are reliving an experience and I can see this being used so well for live concerts and shows. This is something you just can't replicate with normal screens.

I think people are too used to how fast it is to point and click then look away,

What I'm hearing from this is that people have learned to use computers and touch-screen devices fast and efficiently, and this product slows them down.

It's really difficult to see how this will ever be a productivity device, and not just a media consumption device. But it makes sense. This is a monitor, not a computer. It seems a lot like trying to use the web browser on your TV with a regular TV remote.

That level of efficency as a productivity device comes through using the macbook and it's keyboard and pad and using the vision pro as the screen interface. Otherwise I agree it's primarily a media consumption device at its best.

The only use case I've really seen people talk about is using it on a plane, either for movies (which has limitations about battery life and not being used during takeoff/landing etc) or for 'getting some work done'. But if it's just a mirrored monitor for a macbook, and you need to have your macbook open on the plane as well, it seems like this is just a burden.

I just keep asking - what is it actually for? When is it ever going to be easier, faster, more convenient, more comfortable, more cost effective or more productive to use an AVP over any other monitor for anything - especially if it is heavy, limited by battery life and causes eyestrain.

The level of hype and aggressive marketing, but no real use case, is giving major 3DTV or Microsoft Kinect vibes.

And I was being called moronic for pointing out the FOV. ;)

To me it's for advanced media consumption. Recording a spatial video on my 15 pro and reliving an experience on my vision pro is something you just can't do with that same level of immersion on a normal screen. The effect puts you into the experience. It's more than just staring at a screen, you're part of the experience again.

The vision pro doesn't necessarily need to be a productivity device. It's OK if you get that through a laptop. it's OK if it's a unique top tier media consumption and experience device.

How is a heavy $3500 device (iPad "glasses") strapped to your head that doesn't even have enough battery for a movie any valuable or useful? It's not even pocketable.
1. Heavy is subjective. Mine is not.
2. A headset is used by strap to your head, not to your knee
3. External battery that can swapped and used while charged = infinite battery
4. Movie? Meh, I use mine more than that: training, education, personal entertainment, simulation, walkthrough, conceptual modelling, “bridging” digital items into reality, prototyping, surgery supervising, hazard remote control, etc.
5. Yes you can pocket it if you want too, just wear giant baggy jeans.

I can't speak for the poster who you asked, but I could leave a movie on pause in the living room, go to the kitchen where I have a couple timers going over what I'm cooking, plus a page with a recipe left open there, a spreadsheet or presentation that I'm working on at my desk, where it won't bug me while I'm cooking and watching a movie...
In other words you pause the TV, look at the stove and microwave timers, and work on your documents on your computer, none of which will bug you while using the other.

Everything you already own and does the same job.

The cheapest iPad or iPhone can do all of that. And you don't even need to wear it on your head.
So you believe we should wear giant baggy jeans to be able to carry the Vision Pro around?
Care to explain how iphone can do that ? It’s not even able to see 3D model.
You really don’t have a clue what you are talking about, do you? It’s getting a little awkward now.

Apple needs to release a video on how to do everything on the AVP
also demonstrating different uses,
Setup,’etc
Apple technicians have played with this for years while designing it and can use the AVP without thinking. They know all the tips and tricks and we the consumer need their knowledge to make this product a success

Reactions: klasma
I’ve thought of some app ideas that could possibility utilize the strengths of AVP. Stuff like music learning, if it could track your fingers well enough. Might be a game changer for learning piano and some other instruments. Also language learning with Spatial Audio and VR/AR conversation partners, possibility powered by LLMs. Not sure if these are technically possible with the onboard tech… yet.

But the current appeal of using it to watch movies or place screens around the house displaying weather, spreadsheets, etc. I just don’t see why anyone needs any of this aside from the short lived novelty factors. This is really going to hinge on whether devs can come up with compelling apps or not. Apple should absolutely be bending over backwards to motivate and compensate their devs, because they need them here more than ever.

And even if there are some good apps, $3500 (or anything in that neighborhood) is a really really hard sell.

Saw guitar or piano learning apps on the way. Was on Twitter or something. I forget.
