deliver in numbers

But some people have received the machines already. I'm sure those people are glad to have them instead of having those machines sit in a warehouse and then ship more at once. Keeping up with demand is obviously an issue and nobody likes to wait much less have orders pushed back, but we don't know what kind of numbers they are shipping in, or if the delays are overall or if certain configurations are in shorter supply.

I'm supposed to see one of these in the next couple weeks, I don't know if that will happen or if it will be pushed back. But either way, that doesn't make me wish that people who have received these didn't get them.

1st Gen McPro

Nice idea for a hobbyist.

I can't wait another 18 months to replace my cMP, and I personally feel I've been waiting since 2011 for this one.

Dang curia007.. that's 10 wks! I ordered on Jan 6. I will probably have waited 9 for my CTO 6core.

Ordered DECEMBER 28TH.

Got the 5-7 day call today.

As far as I can understand the trouble seems to be with 512GB SSD orders. Identical build to mine ordered 3 days after mine but with 1TB shipped about a week ago.

Fail.

1 TB drive + D700s here, "5-7" call as well.

My bet on Apple production guys being pwned by markedroids.

And from Australia . .

Hi from Australia -

I ordered my fully memoried up 12 core on Christmas Eve and got the 2 'it's coming in February' emails and actually got it on Friday 28th afternoon!!! (TNT were supposed to deliver it on 27th, but temporarily 'lost' it!!)

It's even more beautiful in reality than all the photos - looking forward to a brilliant weekend setting it all up.

Do you mean like spelling? :)

I sure hope it turns out to be worth the wait.

Ordered mine on Dec. 19th in the evening. Arrived Feb. 21st
3.5-6Core/16GB/1TB/D500 (and maxed out the RAM with Crucial on my own)

Just loving this new MP, having replaced what I never knew was so loud of an old Mac Pro. I was actually heating my office with the old machine and drives... now this new can sits up on the desk as silent as can be.:)

Mostly a Photoslop user, crunching jobs after a day's work, but I have improved speed with no noise at all! I am now turning off my RAID drives for the day, working on the desktop to utilize the 1TB SSD and porting over to the other drives when the job is complete. Very nice, new work flow for me and I like it a lot and I am not even a heavy video user.

Worth the wait in a big way! Sorry that things have hung up for everyone, and I was waiting like a kid for that truck to pull up... but it is worth it. I don't understand everyone's trash talking other than being just that.

is it that they are very difficult to make or is the demand so high? or both?

It's neither. Apple has likely sized the factory for the expected AVERAGE demand. This big rush to buy MPs will subside. It would not have been smart to size the factory of the big rush at launch day and then have to run at 50% capacity for years to come.

FACT:

Limited GPU design with already ancient cards. No expandable storage except for overly expensive TB. Pathetic PSU. Poor thermal design that forces the computer to massively slow down.

So it has some features YOU don't like. But these machines are selling faster than Apple can build them, delivery dates are being pushed back.

What you should care about is how well it runs the software you use compared to other computers. Are YOU actually having a problem with your MP?

As for internal storage, placing in inside a desktop computer is a really dumb place. Then you have to be sitting in front of that computer to access it. Stoage needs to live on some kind of central and accessible server. I want the data to follow me.

...
Current U.S. Apple Online Store orders for the Mac Pro have an expected ship date of April. ...
What I'm wondering if this insufferable sluggishness is part of a larger ball-drop, or just a "ramp up" phenomenon.

In other words, will we ever see this for a Mac Pro...
Available to ship:
Within 24 hours

"priority" order

I ordered a 6-core machine with extra memory on Dec 20th through the campus bookstore. They'd been told by Apple that the first two orders they got placed by noon that day would receive "priority". Pretty exciting, huh? Well, it's now March 1 and my machine still hasn't shipped. Whenever the bookstore calls Apple, they're told that they cannot give them an estimate for when the machine will ship due to "heavy demand." I'm a patient guy but this is getting ridiculous.

Ridiculous

So, I ordered on December 20, 12 core, 512, 700 Graphics Cards and 32 gigs of RAM. Last Tuesday, February 25, I get an email from Apple that says my bank wouldn't approve the charge. I call the bank and they say they are trying to protect me from fraud. Great. I call Apple and they say no problem, you won't fall out of the cue. They charge my bank account immediately. Then on Thursday they call again and give me the we won't make Feb line they are giving everyone else. Then, they put the money back!! WTF? December 20 I ordered this thing. I have called several times in the weeks before and one rep even said for my frustration he would change the order to overnight shipping blah blah and gave me two 45 dollar give coupons, (which are no good for retail store phones are just about anything else you might want). Great. Now Apple says the order has no such overnight shipping indicated for my order. I mean really? I have bought cars and houses that were less frustrating.

Sorry to hear that :( this must be really frustrating...
the price for 12-core is not a joke at all, and Apple shouldn't have deceived you like this!!
My bank also has kinda fraud protection so that I guess I'd better let the bank know in advance before Apple is about to charge me for my 12-core nMP...

hope this will be resolved soon.

For those who got the "5-7 days delay" call, have any of your order statuses online been updated? Mine now says "Preparing for Shipment" but on the side still says "Available to ship February". Has Anyone got an actual date estimate from Apple?

The worst thing about it, is that Apple did not upgrade the shipping. It was still ground shipping.

So..they shoved an apple behind you....should you cancel or wait...the choice is your (mission impossible theme).

Ha, it's shipping the 10th so to late to cancel. Hopefully Tom cruise will not be delivering it!

So my February computer got pushed back to march 4th and was told by an Austin, Tx AppleCare rep to contact Apple again after I received it. When I called I was offered a refund/credit for $150 back onto my purchasing credit card. I tried to get a trackpad on top of that because I saw someone mentioned it here in the forums, but the rep and I just started laughing. I was more than happy with the gesture so good luck to the rest of you that we're expecting some friendship token. Besides the wait, this nMP experience was an overall good one.

I wonder how you got $150. My order was over $8,000, almost $7k just for the late MacPro and all I could get was $75. At first, he only offered to credit me $35 for the thunderbolt cable and when I pushed back he got an "exception" to get it to $75. Hate to look a gift horse in the mouth but I did really need that computer for the project I have now so it wasn't like I didn't suffer from it being late. You must have been squeakier on the phone than I was, or you ordered more. Anyway, Apple did more than any other company would so I'm just being spoiled.

Actually it was odd cause it went too smooth. That was his initial offer before I even asked for anything. I'll PM you his contact. I guess it just depends on who you get. When I asked for the additional trackpad as a half joke, he did say that if there was another blunder in the process he would have been able to get some additional perks. He was a supervisor also, so I don't know if that makes a difference. Check your PM, some additional info in there that may help you.

Thanks! I do think being a supervisor probably made the difference since the guy I spoke with said to be able to give me any more he would have to get more permission than the permission he already got to bump it up to $75, lol. My first mistake probably was not calling the original number back right away. I missed the first Apple call telling me it was going to be late and the Austin office was closed when I tried calling back. I used the general Apple number instead to find out what the call was about and did nothing else until I started reading things here. I think that made me fall off the reimbursement track, so to speak. I don't think I'll quibble over another $75 since I really wasn't expecting the refund I DID get. I'll keep it in mind for the future, though. AND, I'll use my business rep next time...:roll eyes: That's what happens when you wait so long to upgrade. Get too excited and make mistakes.

True, $75 is just a drop in the bucket, but won't hurt just making a phone call. Could land you a nice little gift card to complement your new baby! Also, the the contact that I gave you is available until 10pm I believe, which is pretty nice. You paid $8k, you at least deserve a thank you on par with someone who made an order for half the value of your computer. My order was $4k after edu discount and I bought my ram off ebay after finding someone who else was upgrading and selling their old sticks individually. Grabbed a 4gb stick for only $28 new, when Apple wanted to charge me $100, but that's a different story.
