They come back after usage, at least here.
It's a heat related issue, it appears.

From the same page:

Picked up my iphone today, took me a good hour before i noticed i had a yellow blotch in the lower left of the screen, about where the left of the unlock slider is. Read this, pumped up my brightness to max, and continued to use it, it appears to fading down already, admittedly mine was fairly small in the first place in comparison to some i have seen, but this solution at least appears to be working for now.

Hope this helps.

While heat-related (it shows up after some use), that does not mean what I posted is false. It could need time to evaporate, and simply show up during heat while it has not completely evaporated. Furthermore, check engadget. They featured the exact same post.

I disagree that it is heat related, mine came out of the box that way. Unless it was on the whole time during shipping or it was tested exstenivly at the factory, I don't see how it could be heat related. Maybe I'll be proved wrong later, but I think it's just a bad batch of screens. My .02!:)

mine came out of the box that way, but it was warm from being in the FedEx truck...
I believe it's some heat/usage related issue, as i said before. The problem disappears if i leave the phone off or unused for a while, and comes back with usage.

yeah, normal for apple. reminds me of my aluminum iMac screens. yes, plural! i've have more iMac screen replacements for me to accurately recall the amount. 6? maybe 7?.
Do you have a permanent cloud over your head at all times? Was one of your ancestors a Roman centurion at the crucifixion? You seem to have suck bad luck.

I've never had a single issue with any device with an LCD display other than a cheap Acer LCD that stopped working but my Sony and Apple products have been flawless so far.

Indeed. Isn't it odd that most of us get perfect (well, as perfect as human manufacturing allows) products right out of the box, but some of us claim 6 or 7 (or more) returns to get it right.

Uh huh. Something smells funny.

no discoloration for me, but I experienced the bar-drop in the store. The Apple rep looked on in amazement, and I confided in him that they'll probably be giving out free bumpers pretty soon because of this.

Really tremendously great phone, but this is a BAD error for it to have. Lucky for me, I'm cognizant enough to not join the two pieces of metal with flesh. Don't want a bumper, they spoil the aesthetic of the phone.

Indeed - as in, practically ALL of the displays in question were flawed - I know, I saw them. I'm a colorist, I notice these things.

So how many ppl have had the discoloration go away? I'm not trying to have to return my phone already for repair or swap it...

No discoloration for me. Only an 'incredible' display - no matter how much you read other people talking about it. The display sharpness is beyond anything you have ever seen...

:D:D:D

Still there

The yellow spots are fainter now but definitely still there, especially evident against a blue background ( as in Settings: Brightness). If I hadn't stood in line for 5 hours to get it, three days ago, and if I hadn't spent almost $400 (with tax & bumper), I might live with it. But it cost Apple $185 to make the phone, so their profit margins aren't giving us a break. I'm getting a swap tomorrow. To their credit, I haven't been challenged about it.

I like the bumper, btw, but it sure seems funny that the bumper just happens to address the antenna issue. Apple's never made an iPhone case before....

Finally, the proximity sensor goes nuts, I've noticed, during phone calls. Much worse than my 3G's. So let's hope they fix this via software.

Mine has completely disappeared since it was visible the first two days of ownership, no matter what app, what color, etc.. totally normal now.

I got the phone on Friday and noticed the yellow discoloration on Friday night. Saturday my wife took the phone to the Apple store and they ordered a replacement, which arrived today. I picked it up this afternoon -- even restored from backup and synced in the store.

Sure, it may go away, but why should I deal with that?

lol... they going to repack your iphone as brand new after the discoloration has gone and give it to the next customer who return for the same issue...:D:D

so ur spanking new iphone.. guess how many hands have molested it?

everyone that had their yellow splotches go away, did you have a screen shield on or naked? a genius told me you have to take the screen cover off for the bonding agent to dry...

Why wasn't shipment delayed until the bonding agent dried?
