I'm so sick of people putting "gate" at the end of everything. Damn you Nixon! I blame you. THIS is the legacy you have left us.

It's not a scandal. If people are too stupid to figure out having a huge phone in their pocket is prone to being mangled, then they deserve what they get. It doesn't take a rocket scientist.

its time for this to return, minus the gun

What's the problem? Just put the phone in your pocket in the opposite direction and go to another wedding.

Next Year announcing iPhone 6S Plus

Next Year announcing iPhone 6S Plus. S not standing for Speed anymore, but Solid ;-)

This is quite a serious problem. I wonder if apple didn't anticipate this, or they didn't come across this issue during their quality assurance testing. I wonder if were going to hear something from them regarding this.

This is where a durable, hard plastic of the exact size and dimension would have been preferable. The feel is not as nice, but it would prevent bending.

Help

I accidentally dropped my phone in the blender, and it's destroyed! Come on Apple, what were you thinking?

I assumed most people would carry the Plus in a bag, not a pocket. You can probably fit an iPad mini in your pocket too, but it's not a very good idea.

"Most people"? I don't know "most people", but I'm willing to place a bet that a large majority of owners won't carry a bag, just for their phone. If they're women, they've already got one, so that works out for them.

Maybe if apple made the back of the iPhone 6 flush with the camera this would have been less of a problem:rolleyes:? Either way it would have at-least done away with that hideous bulge :p and further increased battery life by 5 minutes :D

Honestly I would prefer if Apple used a good stainless steel to make their phones more durable and possibly thinner moving foreward. I wouldn't mind the extra possible weight. I prefer something that feels solid in your hand.

why you'd sit on your expensive toy.

The users that this has happened to aren't sitting on the phone, it is in their front pocket.

You're nuts.

Think about how many pounds of pressure you could exert on an object if you sat on it. Apple (or any phone manufacturer) can only do so much to prevent you from doing something stupid.

Common sense would tell you that maybe if you feel that phone in your pocket stretching out the pocket and exerting pressure on your thigh/leg, you should remove it from your pocket.

People have been putting cellphones in their pocket since they grew small enough to do so. It's ridiculous to expect people to change their behaviours now simply because Apple hasn't strengthened the design enough to withstand completely normal use.

Are you new to the physical world?

iPhones are tools to be used, not works of art to be placed on display.

If people are going to place large, thin, fragile electronics in tight pockets, or places where the device encounters movement / contact stress, they shouldn't be surprised that said device starts to show signs of stress by bending etc.

I know a lot of people like to show off their iphone naked, but it is getting to the point, where doing that could come at a high cost.

Again, what's the point? You buy a thinPhone and slap a thick case on it. #NoPoint

I wonder how many more years it's going to take Apple fans who are blinded, to actually understand that Plastic is a more suitable material in many ways than Aluminium for a lightweight strong portable item.

When will science and practicality win over fashion?

Note: When I say Plastic, I don't mean low grade green toy soldier plastic.
Lumping all plastics together is as dumb as lumping all metals together.

The cost of thinner

If Apple continues down the path of thinner AND using aluminum, they're going to have to dig into that mound of cash and pony up for higher grade aluminum. Aluminum isn't aluminum isn't aluminum. There are grades of aluminum just like there are grades of steel, carbon fiber, or plastic. I personally think a 6+ with the thickness of a 5S would have been less likely to bend with Apple continuing to use the same grade of aluminum.

6S+ with aircraft aluminum? Apple has the cash to do it. It may come down to profit vs customer satisfaction.

got a 5s which lives in my back jeans pocket and so have all my iPhones for the last 6 years. Really don't want a bigger iPhone and hope they will jazz up the 5s sized models with bert chips etc!

My guess: They'll keep their mouth shut until and only if the negative media exposure gets severe, in which case they will release a statement saying bending is a natural quality of aluminium blah blah blah.

I seriously figured that the reason the iPhone 6 Plus was slightly thicker was so that they could put a more rigid enclosure on it. But I did mention in a thread on September 18th that I was worried that it might bend. We used to be holding it wrong. Now we're pocketing it wrong. On the other hand, I wouldn't be surprised if this guy shoved the thing into some tiny pocket of some tight pants. Yeah, if you're going to do that, the Plus isn't for you.
