Huh?

In what world does that seem reasonable for at $1000 device??

What does price have to do with this? Apple didn't promise "the only smartphone that will never bend, no matter how tight your pants are".

Carry it in a jacket pocket. Wear looser pants. Get a holster.

A hard choice to make. Leave phone by testicles or bring it closer to the heart/head? I think putting it in the back pocket is a wonderful compromise, the buttocks should be able to take all the abuse.

The apparent danger with cell phones is that their radiated energy heats up nearby moist tissue. (It's not ionizing radiation like a nuke. It's magnetic radiation, like a microwave oven.)

Bone is a pretty good protector, so adult skulls (except where our ear openings are) and chest act like walls.

It's wetter soft tissue that can get more easily get overheated and harmed. E.g. young children with more brain fluid and thinner skulls, testicles, umm... I guess even tongues, if you kept yours sticking out near the bottom of the phone :)

Sorry Apple, but a phone is meant to be carried in your pocket! There's no excuse for a phone to bend under common daily usage (driving, sitting, etc). This needs to be corrected.

Horrible news :(

We agree. My comment was a joke...

If I were running a huge company like Apple, I would likely not run it in the US. WAY WAY WAY too many taxes. And the last state I would run it would be the peoples republic of California, and the last city would likely be San Fran. Just too much government involvement and regulation that destroys businesses all in the name of politicians power to spend money with no recourse.

Cupertino is not SF. There are a couple of counties in between the two.

The heart area isn't as sensitive as your balls.

You did watch the Apple Watch announcement, right? It only works WITH an iPhone for calls and messages, not alone or with anything else.

Didn't watch the announcement. Thought I read somewhere that you could use it to make calls but from what you've said it seems like you need to have the iPhone with you at the same time which kind of defeats the object. Hopefully they'll make a version down the line that doesn't require you to physically have your iPhone with you to make and receive calls.

After reading this thread I immediately went to the Apple store and bought Apple care. I'm not spending $1200 on the phone and having it bend just from being in my Jean pocket.

While I was there I also looked at the display iPhone 6+ models. The two models I looked at immediately were both bent. I think that tells us something right there…

Next time anyone in this thread goes to an Apple store look at the iPhone 6+'s on display and see if they're bent. The two I looked at immediately upon entering the store were definitely bent, but most were okay still.

This is pretty *******. I expect this phone to be capable of withstanding pocket pressure. LOL @ the people saying not to treat a $900 phone badly by sticking it in your pocket. Are you ***** joking me? No, I expect to treat my $900 phone like a phone not a piece of aluminum foil you prick. Sticking a phone in a pocket and having it bent isn't a user error but clearly a result of Apple's obsession with making phones thinner. Now I get to buy a case to make up for an engineering flaw.

It is? That's funny, until about a decade ago, not a single, normal, non-rich person carried phones in their pocket.

You DO have other pockets, right? Maybe a jacket?

Were they in the front pocket or back pocket? Seems hard to believe they could bend simply from pressure from the front pocket.

Maybe you should return your phone.

Not sure what price has to do with this, my MacBook Pro was $1400 and I can't drop it on the ground without something denting, should I call Apple about that?

Indestructible Care+

People now have to have Indestructible Care+ from Apple?

I didn't buy my iPhone under the assumption it was indestructible!

The screen is glass (I don't care what kind of glass), it can break, it's aluminum it can bend and submerging it in a toilet can damage it. I think this is common knowledge. To bend it like the photos would, take just a little bit more then just sitting down with it it in your front pocket. Maybe in your back pocket, falling into a chair or, just a big fat ass could do it. But under average use, I'm sure it'll be fine!

Putting a phone of that size in a pant pocket? What an ugly thing. That's like having a drop of **** on the shoe.

Come on, the iPhones look so beautiful, please don't use it to create ugly-looking scenes!!!

But that has nothing to do with the fact that people are subjecting a phone to high pressure forces inside a tight pants pocket when sitting… Or to severe abuse when they throw a phone into a bag filled with coins, keys, heavy stuff, etc etc… When you do that, stuff will break, stuff will bend, stuff will scratch.

high pressure forces inside a tight pants pocket when sitting

Yeah that's exactly how the majority of mobile phones have been stored for YEARS.

Lets say that yes, each new iPhone loses 25% of it's durability.. If it's with nothing in return then it's a design flaw, if you get something in return, it's up to the customers to see if its acceptable or not.

Again, let's say that this iPhone is 25% less durable than the 5s… If you think that a thinner and bigger screen is a good trade off, it's up to you, the customer… Apple can only try to mitigate that durability drop.

The problem is this isn't advertise by Apple "Hey btw you can't store you're phone like you did our other versions since 2007 but we will advertise a thinner and bigger screen. You'll just have to find out about our dirty little secret"
