I am pre - ordering my 5.5" from my telco tomorrow. I was first concerned about the thing fitting in my jeans pocket, but i never thought about how i would look like when answering calls on it. i guess that iPad mini pressed against that guys face several pages justifies the irony of answering calls on a phablet. But who cares the 5.5" has the 1080p resolution, better camera and better battery life. Now i have to just get one!

I just hope you can pre-order and it arrives at your house on 9/19. But I clearly heard home say "SHIPS" 9/19. If that's the case I'm going to the store at 3am to get mine on launch.

So approximately 1% of all human beings will have an iPhone 6/6+ by the end of the year. When you take into account the vast swathes of humanity who are too poor, young or old to be potential customers, that's an amazing thing.

I see a math problem here. Can you fix it, please?

I expect a ratio of something like 80:20 in favour of the 4.7" model. I doubt Apple will release a breakdown of each model's sales (As they didn't with 5S/5C) but I still think the 4.7" alone will be the best selling smartphone of all time.
Since we wouldn't know - it doesn't matter actually.

But hearing news about problems with iphone 6PLUS it's safe to assume this model would have smaller production and availability, and many customers would be forced to buy 4.7 model only to drop it later and then try 5.5.

Actually smart marketing move forcing customers for double dip.

And also about how many phones could be sell - I know it's easy in USA to change your current iphone for a new one, or have a good discount, but in other countries, in Europe for example it would cost more, especially a phone w/o contract - like 750 euro for 16GB.

I have an iphone 4S and after 3 years I'm ready for upgrade (really a bigger screen is what I actually need), but with economical situation it's really tough to spend almost 1000 euro for things like phone (I better spend it on winter vacation).

So it would be interesting to see how iphone 6 would be selling.

Apple is definitely the leader when it comes to product launches. Announcement to shipping within 10 days is damn impressive, anyone else in business can learn a thing or two from Apple's launches.

You're right.

Keep in mind however the "quiet period" between the announcement and shipping is not only to build up inventory but to give select reviewers about a week with the device so they can write their review pieces. It's no coincidence that the review embargoes are lifted about a day or two before they hit the shelves.

Apple is all about manipulating and managing the press to squeeze out the most free publicity possible and help push the media frenzy on a launch day.

That's ridiculous all the first impression of journalist indicated that the thinness of the phone makes it easier to handle.

So which do you think is going to be a limiting factor putting this into your pants pocket, the thinness or the length/width? I haven't seen a pair of jeans/pants with a 1/4 or less thickness in the pocket, but a lot don't have a 7 inch deep pocket. That explain it for you in a non ridiculous way?

It's such a shame they didn't use a more premium material on those plastic strips.

I'm also not sure how well those curved 'glass' corners are going to withstand a short drop or bump on a hard surface.

My Nexus 4 has curved glass edges. It's held up extremely well.

I've been to a few launches from Microsoft, and the Apple ones have a different feel to them.

Microsoft ones tend to be, "here's what our software/device can do, and here's a demonstration in a room full of computers that will overwhelm whatever problem you have"

Apple tends to be, "Here's a new thing, and you'll feel better because you don't have to worry about that problem anymore."

Different approaches to solving the problem.

I'm using an unlocked 5 and have no intention of upgrading anytime soon. I'm at the point now where I can wait a couple years to buy this year's latest and greatest at a fraction of the price on eBay. The one feature I'm really looking forward to is Hand-Off. The A6 is a great SoC. It's nice to see smartphones out there that are still really useful after the normal two-year upgrade cycle. I also prefer the 4" display. If I need a larger display, I use my iPad mini and my phone's hotspot, which is where Hand-Off will come in real handy...no pun intended.

I'm kind of with you here. My unlocked 5 still works great and given NFC payments with android are only starting to roll out now to the UK, I do wonder how long it will be before that same hardware in shops such as M&S will work with the apple pay, or some additional agreement needs to be made with the likes of Mastercard, etc...

There's usually something that compels me to upgrade. Last year it was touchID as I personally can see a use when I'm out walking with OS maps.
The bigger screen is kind of a good thing, but I'm not overly fussed and the aesthetics are lost on me as I have to case mine for fear of accidentally breaking it (my 5 has a dent n the corner from just that).

So.. on the fence..

With you here, I have the 5S and have no intention of moving. I'm a "tock" upgrader generally anyway. The 6 is not a pretty phone....

A lot prettier than the 5/5S. Nothing so far touches the 4/4S though.

I think by "ships" they mean "releases". Every iPhone that has been pre-ordered online has arrived on release day so far.. some even a day early, if you're lucky. ;)

Well, I won't be one of the first to get the 4.7", but I'll help Apple's January. They should have iOS 8 and any production problems ironed out by then.

Judging by peoples comments, this could be either "the mother of all upgrades" or "the mother of all fu**ups"

Fixed that for you:
Judging by the epic fail fka live stream, this could be "the mother of all fu**ups"

Forum comments by tech nerds (no bashing, I include myself) are in no way representative or meaningful in the real world.
Demand will be massive and unprecedented. So, as long as Apple doesn’t fu** up satisfying this demand, it will indeed be "the mother of all upgrades".
I at least have no doubt at all.

Not the whole 2 hours.

That should make up for Apple's two hours of live-streaming problems that Samsung so graciously pointed out.

While they definitely had problems, and the Chinese lady was giving me a headache... I was able to watch the second hour without issues so they did correct it. Coming from a "sound tech" standpoint, I understand it's really difficult to get things just right with this stuff. The disconnects however, that is simply an issue with the high demand. I don't know how many connections they had going on, but it was probably massive.

When the phone comes to the UK I'll look into upgrading. However, my hopes aren't that high as I'm 12 months into a 24 month contract.

The idea of buying an iPhone 6 Plus off contract and putting my existing sim card into it was tempting, but it's cheaper to buy an iPad mini. As my current phone is still going strong, and I'd use the Mini for videos, Pages/Google Docs & iBooks, it doesn't need to be cellular.

Still, I'd prefer one device than two, I think.

I think am going to switch to a Nexus or LG G3 .

The price for the iPhone 6 16GB is 700 euros .
I can get two lg g3s for that price that's just ridiculous .

The only thing that sounded interesting or rather heard like distinguishes the iPhone from the rest was the camera sensor and a8 chip.

Truth is the magic camera sensor can be found in other phones , apple just explained how it works , thanks for that .
And the a8 comes with 1gb ram. I don't want to spend the money for two phones on an iPhone and struggle with ram after a year or two when updating to ios9.

I think the iPhone 5c (and the dot cases if you remember) was the first sign of decline. And at least the apple watch seems to be the next sign.

Apple tries to cover their failures . Best example is that they tried to convince us by saying the iPhone is the number one selling phone out there (5c and 5s summed up together)

Now ask yourself how many Galaxy's Samsung has sold . ( basically any device from them is called a galaxy)

No need to ask myself. The numbers are below. I'll let you do the math. You have a strange definition of failure...

I think the telling numbers are 2013. After selling 144 million SIIIs in 2012, Samsung only sold 40 million S4s. I believe the only thing that sells iPhones better than the iPhone experience is the Android experience.

2010

Apple iPhone 4, 40 million sold
Samsung Galaxy S, 20 million sold
Samsung S5620 Monte, 7 million sold
Samsung Wave (S8500), 2 million sold

2011

iPhone 4S, 140 million sold
Samsung Galaxy S II, 20 million sold
Samsung Galaxy Y,15 million sold
Samsung Infuse, 9 million sold

2012

Samsung Galaxy S3, 144 million sold
Apple iPhone 5, 125 million sold

2013

Apple iPhone 5S 150.2 million sold
Samsung Galaxy S4 40 million sold

Last year the 5S did not arrive at anyone's house on release day. It was weeks after. The closest anyone got maybe days... NO ONE got it the same day at their door. Correct me if I'm wrong...

I know, because I ordered at right at midnight. My arrival date wasn't until weeks later

As one of those that loves the one handed phone like the 5s, I was a little disappointed that they did not bump the specks for the 4" format. Even worse is that now I MUST upgrade to a size I don't want to get Apple Pay. And (God forbid) if I want to have stabilization, I need to upgrade to the iPad mini, um, iPhone Plus (you know in clothing Plus size translates to FAT).

I will not pre-order or wait in line as I have done in the past but wait to see how the 4.7" feels in my hand (just saying that makes me feel naughty). I am hoping that a minor miracle occurs and I fall in love and buy the damn thing.

Otherwise, I will wait and buy me a new iPad Air if they ever put one out this year.

You're wrong, and consider yourself corrected. I got mine on release day. So did everyone I know.
