Eventually, smart clothing manufacturers are going to provide better pockets for phones. Like these guys: ScotteVest. You cannot even see which pocket a phone is in.

Beats trying to hide your iPhone in a purple bikini a la Tiffany Case.

I still feel like there is more to these stories than what we are being told. Here is a report int he forums that one of the phones was in a baggy set of jeans and in a case and the phone bent and the screen seperated all from a simple soft bump into someone.

Something just doesn't sound right, especially where there are tons of stress tests on YouTube like the one below. Yes the back plate bent here but it took a liquid nitrogen bath and a sledgehammer and even then it fared better than expected. Are the phones be dig? Clearly. However, I think there is more to it that what people are posting. Maybe they don't recall what caused that to happen exactly but I bet there is more to it that is stressing the phone.

I remember when the 5 came out and we had all these scuff gate stories (some obviosuly legit). There was one post here from someone who said they carefully removed their phone from the box and carefully set it on a coffee table and it got scuffed. I'm sorry but I don't buy it. Same thing with some of these bent phone stories. We heard similar with the 5 and 5s. I've owned both phones and there's no possible way I could bend it except maybe if it was in my back pocket and I sat on it.

The problem is that bending a phone could damage the structural integrity of the battery. A battery which is damaged, becomes pierced or otherwise disfigured can lead to serious problems, as it could lead to combustion of the battery or a dangerous chemical leak.

A credit card is actually designed to be quite flexible, unlike the delicate interiors of a phone. A battery contains chemicals which are poisonous to humans, and therefore a structure which contains such chemicals should be contained in such a way as not be damaged easily. Anyone who designs a phone and doesn't anticipate that people will carry it in their pockets is simply, well stupid.

Li-Poly batteries are actually *very* tolerant to bending - they're laminated, flexible and sealed forms, and can be bent quite a bit without damage. How do I know? I repair things which employ them, and you have to pry the batteries off the adhesive anchor, to replace them - common knowledge, if you're in electronics and repair :)

Well some people are just dumb asses and shouldn't be trusted with $750-$950 phones. I've had every phone in the note series and now the iphone plus not once have I had this sort of problem(I don't wear fat people pants either i'm 6' and weigh 180lb).

Yes this phone must be free of issues if you haven't had a problem with the phone that has been out for five days. Are there any other problems that people are reporting that you can tell us are made up?

Does anyone know if this is covered under warranty?

I know Apple had an internal document for anomalies covered under warranty for the 5 and 5s. I've even had first-hand experience with this, had a hairline crack on my 5s and was swapped no questions asked at the Apple store.. now, I know the employee could have been really nice... but Googling this will show it's a well documented occurrence.

Apparently bent enclosures on the 5/5s were also included on this memo. Wonder if this carries over to the 6/6+.

Hmm. Let me use my years of Apple expertise. Ok:

Take it in and ask.

There is no document I am aware of that says "If a lardass sits on an iPhone 6 please replace it free of charge. Even if they claim it was in the front pocket of loose fitting cargo shorts, we all know what REALLY happened, and to save them the embarrasment we'll take care of them. After all it's not a weight problem, it's genetic. They can't help it. That's why there are all those fat people in Africa. Tim"

I would appluad them if there was though.

:p

I assumed most people would carry the Plus in a bag, not a pocket. You can probably fit an iPad mini in your pocket too, but it's not a very good idea.

Well thanks for clearing that up ;).

I hope thats a manufacturing defect on a certain batch!

I expect that from a Samsung device not an Apple one!

And that is the problem. You think that Apple pumps out best products, when in reality it's a phone that has problems others don't.

Grocery bag maybe?

bent phones go from 3 to 4 and Macrumors says its a small and growing list.

Hyperbole Much?

All about page views. We heard similar stories about the 5/5s but obviously it wasn't a widespread issue otherwise Apple wouldn't have sold the record number of phones they did.

If they would have kept the thickness of the 5s, this probably wouldn't be an issue due to the slightly taller side walls.

Plus, the camera wouldn't bulge out and the battery could have been slightly larger.

All without a big negative impact on the weight. And I had a big adjustment going to the 5s from the 4s due to it's thin sides. I imagine these will be worse.

it should be mentioned, that there were also problems with bending on the iPhone 5 and 5s. Guess making the device thinner didn't improve the situation...

Say what you will, but the 4/4S had the best build quality in my opinion. That thing was built sturdy and compact.

"We know it will bend, but... Will it blend? That is the question."

While I agree common sense should be applied, I was simply just referencing articles I've seen such as this: http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/123824-iphone-5s-issues-the-problems-apple-will-fix-for-free-revealed-in-leaked-document. While this one doesn't actually source the internal memo (at work right now so my referencing is a little limited), I know a PDF of this 'internal memo' has been leaked to a few different sites before.

If you're a guy, you put it in your coat pocket. In summer or at the beach, put it in cargo shorts. No tight jeans for you, sorry.

Women get to put it in their purses.

"To prevent bending, iPhone 6 Plus owners may want to remove their iPhones from their pockets before sitting or bending."

WTF? You had ONE job, cell phone! ONE job. To be a phone in my pocket. All that extra stuff turning you into a small tablet is now getting in the way of doing your most important function: Acting as a portable communication device.

If putting you in my pocket is such an issue, you are no longer convenient or truly portable. I will gladly pass on the iPhone 6 Plus.
I was more intrigued with the "writing" of the article. Who the hell is writing this crud? Oh, someone reports their phone bent...let me figure out what sage advice I can offer...don't put your phone in your pocket! Jesus Christ.

When I can't pocket my phone then the phone becomes a problem. I believe the 6 is the largest phone I'll deal with owning at this point.

Agreed. My 4S has been a beast.
