I don't get how the phone can bend and the glass not crack.

I guess you didn't watch the video where the guy bends the front glass to like 90 degrees without it breaking. The glass is very flexible when bent like that, it just doesn't like to get hit on the unprotected edge

The 5/s clearly had a double stress concentration built into the design. They are doomed to crack at the volume down button.

The 6/+ should be better. However, it looks like Apple skipped heat treating the aluminum. Only Apple would do something like that.

I remember when the 5 came out and we had all these scuff gate stories (some obviosuly legit). There was one post here from someone who said they carefully removed their phone from the box and carefully set it on a coffee table and it got scuffed. I'm sorry but I don't buy it. Same thing with some of these bent phone stories. We heard similar with the 5 and 5s. I've owned both phones and there's no possible way I could bend it except maybe if it was in my back pocket and I sat on it.

It's the standard FUD spread by haters and competitors during the first week of new iPhone sales - nothing to see here.

Reminds me of the "hold your phone like this" antennagate and now "wear loose pants". ouch..

If they would have kept the thickness of the 5s, this probably wouldn't be an issue due to the slightly taller side walls.

Plus, the camera wouldn't bulge out and the battery could have been slightly larger.

All without a big negative impact on the weight. And I had a big adjustment going to the 5s from the 4s due to it's thin sides. I imagine these will be worse.

Or maybe if the bezel wasn't so HUGE the footprint would be smaller and there would be less torque.

But Jonny I've and his tired design must live on. Thinness >> Bezels :rolleyes:

.

lol.

if the phone was unveiled and not any thinner than the 5s, you same people would still be complaining.

just put it in your pocket in reverse position the next day and even it out.

Samsung has never had a bent phone before and Apple has. Fanboy fail.

This is the most hilarious thing I have seen on this thread because these people spent thousands to get this phone. If it keeps bending, get you a note 4 and your problem will be alleviated.

Could be a dealbreaker

Honestly, this could be a dealbreaker. Currently waiting for the Xperia Z3 to see how that stacks up...but this article also doesn't say if they put it in a back pocket and sat on a char, a squishy seat in a car, or front pocket...

But hoping to see some more data on this so we can see if they were idiots/QC issue/design flaw that Apple didn't test this before putting it out. I wouldn't be surprised if this was a design flaw though...

I sit on my iPhone 5S all the time!! Ok, ok, I know that didn't come out sounding well. Aside from that, its kinda surprising to think that Apple didn't anticipate this and build a phone that could handle it. If my iPhone 6 Plus bends after sitting on it, I'll be pretty disappointed. :(

You'll like sitting on your 6 even more then, due to the stronger vibrator.

Exactly I'm glad im not the only one that feels this way. I'm not saying it isn't happening it is, there just has to be more to it

Why not just buy a protective case for the 6? Well I buy a case every time a buy a new iPhone and then I put a protective screen on it. Might as well protect something expensive.

When is Tim Cook going to realize that Jony Ive is not making the best design decisions, surely in the last few years Mr Ive has been working at Apple this would have been noticed, then again look at the stupid decisions of 1 sided ipad audio and hard soldered mac laptops...My 10 year old cellphone works as well as, if not better than an iphone and I do not need to charge it every 30 minutes!!

Think about that. Does Apple have much choice? Us consumers are making unreasonable demands, and then complaining when problems occur.

These would be pressure bends. Hold metal in a certain way for a while and it will begin to hold that form

Physics fundamentals:

#1 Polycarbonate bends, but then bends back.

#2 Aluminium bends... and *stays* bent.

#3 Polycarbonate bends MUCH MUCH more than aluminium, so, if you were able to observe it, your plastic Samsung would have bent WAY more, and more times.

Take that Samsung! Curved screens on the 5.5" 6+!

Why would anyone put their phones in either their front or back pockets when they're that big? Get cargo pants or put it in your jacket pocket.

I still don't understand why Apple had to make the 6 that thin. Making it thicker would have allowed a larger battery, a non-protruding camera (by the way, notice how all their marketing materials have the phone turned a bit, so you can't see the camera sticking from the back) and a more rigid case. :\
