Some iPhone and iPad Users Seeing Strange Safari Crashes When Searching [Update: Fixed]

Also, the websites on the Safari app are taking forever to load 🙁 I tried using Firefox Mozilla browser and it's working blazing fast. So, there's definitely something off with Safari. Hoping for a fix soon.

Same here. I'll click on a link on a page and it takes forever to show up. However if I "refresh" the page that has not shown up a few seconds after the click, it loads fine. So it's like the page is loaded in the background, because I can see the refresh arrow, but it is not being displayed!

I don't have the crashing issue (iPhone 12 and old iPad pro on iOS 16.1), but those sets of three letters pull up sites I've been to, so inconclusive.

I tried to enter Home Depot - gets as far as “hom” and it crashes

Not just crash, but when typing in search words, Safari scrolls down so you can’t see what you’re typing. Super annoying.

Yup turned off safari suggestions and issue went away. No more crashing

Happening for me across devices and different iOS.
Edit. Turn off Safari Suggestions, did resolve.

Yup turned it off on my 14PM and the crashing went away

Crashes don’t happen in incognito mode. Switched to regular mode and insta-crashed When trying “Wal”.

I don't remember any Safari Search Crashes. We had the issue with Spotlight. If either of us tried to search Nascar, it crashed at the s. Once I knew and just typed N or Na, I could tap it and be fine, but the s always crashed it

Maybe a profile installed (example: Corporate/institution Exchange account)? Settings > General > VPN & Device Management.

All are set with DuckDuckGo.

I also use Wipr ad blocking, and StopTheMadness extension.

You're a smart man. I really wish I hadn't updated to 16.1 from 15.7. I updated to 16.1.1 a few weeks after and it is just as buggy as 16.1.

Happened to me earlier, I was trying to figure out when Best Buy opened. Safari kept crashing.

For what its worth - Edge worked fine.

As I've said for the past few years, here lately Microsoft's software has been more reliable than Apple's.
