Apple supplier LG Display is expected to be the secondary vendor for the OLED panels that will feature on next year's fourth-generation iPhone SE models, reports The Elec.

The fourth-generation ‌iPhone SE‌ is rumored to feature an iPhone 14-like design with an OLED display, Face ID instead of Touch ID, a USB-C port, an Action button, and an all-screen look that does away with the Home Button. The device's display is expected to grow in size from 4.7 inches to 6.06 inches and use OLED for the first time.

BOE will be the primary supplier of the OLED panels, with LG Display providing backup, according to today's report. In previous years, Apple has solely tasked China-based BOE to supply LCD-based iPhone SE panels. But BOE has struggled before with yield issues for OLED iPhone panels, so bringing LG Display into the picture as a secondary supplier could be Apple's way of having a security blanket in case of future problems.

The panel prices for the iPhone SE 4 are said to be a lot lower than suppliers charge for the OLED displays used in the iPhone 15, since the panels for the SE will use legacy parts identical to those used in the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14, so the suppliers won't need to make new investments in R&D. Display manufacturers are believed to have been bidding to supply the panels since at least last August. Mass production of the device will reportedly begin in October of this year, with the iPhone SE 4 expected to arrive in spring 2025.

Good to see that LG is also providing displays. Will be very interesting to see the next SE. Hopefully there will not be any price hike.
I agree, the new SE sounds like a good compromise. I'm guessing it will be a new favorite for companies too, the current SE is to old and the 14 is to expensive.
If the rumors correct and it will have the latest CPU that support AI i'd say it will be a success.

Beyond missing a camera and having a notch, is there any major feature missing here that isn't on iPhone 15?
There has been no mentions of magsafe and the new SE, but it would be odd if Apple didn't include Magsafe.

My 5 cent is that when the SE will be released the 15 won't be sold anymore, especially if the SE has a better CPU and can run AI.

Apple seems to be gearing up for a proper value offer somewhat similar in spirit to what Google does in their Pixel a series.
And that's great in my book.

It would be risky for Apple to give the SE Apple Intelligence. They don’t want to trash 🗑️ the 16 model just 6 months later

I’m thinking A18 Chip and then only 6GB of ram or A17 Pro Chip and only 6GB of ram

Apple wants its SE 4 to sell very well but not by cannibilizing its 16 model only 6 months later.

iOS 18 is a huge update and all SE buyers will need. If they want Apple AI, then they can buy the more expensive 16 model

My guesses: No AR coating (like the base iPad), increased weight, no HDR and/or lower peak brightness, no P3 color, maybe lower IP rating (less water/dust proof), lower specs for the camera and video recording, lower 5G specs, no MagSafe, maybe no silent switch (and no action button either).

Apple won’t allow the SE to out shine the other models, so no Apple Intelligence on the SE 4 and only 6GB of ram. SE buyers don’t care about all that extra AI Stuff just iOS 18 and OLED and a 48 megapixel camera. The SE 4 is also getting Apple’s own customized 5G modem that will be fully optimized for Apple iOS with all types of performance and efficiency battery saving benefits. So the SE 4 should have really good battery 🔋 life

This is shaping up to be a great phone if everything is true of course. The screen size is a bit too small for me but if the price is right then it would be very tempting...if I didn't have a 15 Pro Max.

Maybe one day a new SE will align with me wanting a new phone. Assuming Apple doesn't get even more greedy and raise prices too much.

I am going to guess iPhone SE 4 will be very China Specific.

Apple will likely use OLED, DRAM and NAND from China on iPhone SE 4. Considering the RAM may even be slower so the A18 may not perform the same as A18 on iPhone 16.

If they indeed bump the iPhone 16 range to start from 256GB, the line up will be:

$1199 iPhone Pro Max
$1099 iPhone Pro

$899 iPhone 16 256GB
$799 iPhone 16 256GB

$699 iPhone 15 128GB

$599 iPhone 14 128GB

$499 iPhone SE 4 128GB

Time to play the screen lottery again!
I wonder how it will be in terms of pixel defects. Even the Steam Deck OLED (Special edition) which uses BOE screens has issues with dead pixels, while the standard edition with Samsung has no problems whatsoever.

I'm only guessing here but I don't think Apple will release a "budget" device and not include AI. The might do a Samsung and only include AI on flagship devices, but it just doesn't feel "Apple" to drop AI, the big selling point of iOS 18 for a new device.
When it comes to their own 5G chipset I don't have any high hopes for them to be better than what Qualcomm delivers today in terms of efficiency. At least not the initial products that they will release.

I was thinking the same. Was also wondering why not release with the 16 and make the new SE the baseline so that all models have USB-C. Apple is always looking to raise the average selling price and not having the 14 or 15 (only the SE) would likely push that result.
Just my$0.02.

You think Apple will give the SE 4 Apple Intelligence thus eating into sales for not only the iPhone 16 standard models but potentially 16 Pro models and 15 pro and 14 models as well? The market for the SE is not high end features like Apple Intelligence. The price would be way over $499 so that’s a easy budget cut for the SE model, too easy.

As for the Apple custom modem, it could be battery saving vs any performance speed gain. With there own Custom 5G modem it will be fully tweaked and optimized for iOS vs many different operating platforms and we all know what happened when Apple created there own CPU/GPU chip. Apple Silicon introduced big performance and efficiency gains for apple products

SE4 will cannibalize other phone sales. 95% of iPhone users have no idea what the differences between a 13 and a 15 are. I'm looking forward to a more affordable iPhone.
