iCam is a rumor remember ;)

but when I read iPod, i thought that sounded a bit cheesy. I like the monikor now however. I could live with iCam.

Perhaps it will be:

3 megapixel Firewire Webcam. 30fps @ 640x480. Capable of taking digital stills and/or digital video = for use with iMovie3. Onboard 10gig drive. 15 hour battery life. For $599.

Why get ready to be blown away if there`s no G5?
The G3 have been here 4 far to looong. Who cares about a crappy G3 iMac when ure gonna use OSX. Thats just stupid!
Woow, G4 1.5 GHz :( Who cares.... I want G5 now !

No G5, nothing to be happy about!

G5 have to be there!!!!!

youre absolutely right Firewire, When you hear
" to be blown away" you already think about the
G5, well... new iMac could be great too... but it
doesn't mean that much to me if they release it
or not, it just could be better! However, if the G5 isn,t there !!! How disaspointed i,m gonna be !!!

confusing.

Too much wireless hype. I like it.

but something doesnt add up to me. You see, if appl plans to introduce this "iCam" with BlueTooth, and then GigaWire, with already exhisting Aiport, isnt that a supreme waste of wireless ? i mean, its making to many connection types (though wireless and invisible) and protocols. 3 wireless protocols on one machine ?

doesnt add up.

And id love it if apple dropped iMac name, interesting to see waht would come up...

as we all know, the letter 'i' has been thoroughly lynched, beaten and raped since the introduction of the original iMac.

------------
5 days...

If these are right... i am disapointed already! All this hype and this is it! I'll be some ticked at Apple if this is what happens... Here comes a letter to Apple about their Marketing if this happens... They are so stupid... the need to pay more attention to what the "buyers" want....

G5 PowerMacs & PowerBooks
G4 iMacs & iBooks
iPad, iPod, handheld video viewer, etc.

i didn't know about gigawire, is it really a wireless protocol? I was always thinking that was like the last one, that it was communicating throught wire, not by throught the air! However if it,S true, well it,S a pretty good news, no more wire !!

and about speculation, I wonder if Apple could release a wireless Mouse and Keyboard. That'S a good idea... isn't it!!!

I expect that in the next 5 years, wire gonna disapear!
Power cable still the only one who will piss us off! :)

hey Gandalf, you seem to be a Lord of the rings' lover.!!!

If you look really carefully you can see the odd car in the movie!!! Personally, I missed it but they are there!

It took long enough.................

This particular rumor spread around the "insider" community here in Silicon Valley almost exactly a year ago. The Wireless peripherals are rumoured to use a hybrid Airport/Firewire technology. Imagine all your stuff running on short-range Airport. The wireless LCD would need a little more work to not need a charging cradle though....................

According to something I read, G5 isn't even listed as its goign to be used in computers.. perhaps AMD or IBM has come up with something and Motorolla is finally being dropped? That would be bigger than anything I've heard discussed on here... pretend the new chip is called X, PowerMac and Powerbook featuring the X processor running at 2ish Ghz. and iBook and iMac running 1Ghz ish G4s...

the 1ghz for X processor maybe a stretch, but with all the hype they best pull something out of their ass.

Didn't Motorola just announce a big round of layoffs? hmmmmm.....

There have been many mentions of a Sony Apple alliance, and while I personally believe this to be just a firewire development thing, the other possibilities are interesting. Consider that Sony likes to see itself much as Apple does, a provider of premium lifestyle equipment. However Sony has been forced more and more to compete against other home electronics on a price/feature basis. An Apple alliance would allow more of the premium stuff and increase the status with Ive's design team over at Apple making it hipper than Sony's quasi-futuristic jetsons on crack designs. Apple/Sony walkmans, cameras, aibo (robot dog), monitors, DVD, etc. could provide many interesting developments outside of the computer market.

OK - reading another thread mentioning vast quantities of LCD screens being stocked up in Asia, how about THIS for a radical idea?

An A4-sized PDA with handwriting recognition (aka. Newton), running a cut-down version of OSX.

Other ideas for the show -

Firewire 2 as standard in Power Macs (G5 spec., perhaps?)
LCD iMacs - still running G3's, but over the GHz mark
OSX for Intel machines, for TRUE compatibility and stability.

Well, that's my hunch. Personally, I just wish they brought back the Cube...

That,S interessting... do you know when? which scene? and where it,s possible to see it!

no G5

If there is no G5 then apple better shut up an dstop putting that stuff on their website because it can only hurt them. I think the most anticipated thing right now is the G5, not a new imac, not iphoto, not new lcd screens, not even icam, people want power, which is what the G5 has and they want it now. They would have to at least announce it at MWSF. I think even their stock prices depend on it. Yes wirless screens will be a hot commodity, but alot of folks out there, especially pro video folks like myself want more power. And I am "not going to buy a winblows machine for me to reboot every 20 minutes".
I think the G5 chip will put apple in a very good position, even bigger gun like SGI have shown interest in it. I think apple should thry to buy SGI or just buy alot of shares in SGI so that they share info then my friends you will see GFX performance.

100GHZ!!!! AND 200GHZ!!!!

Is it just me or has everyone forgotten that IBM was developing a chip 1 year ago based on PowerPC G4 architecture that was rated at 100ghz and were expecting to roll one out in a year! WELL GUESS WHAT! Its a year later and they were saying it was for home computers NOT SCIENTIFIC SUPERCOMPUTERS!

IF APPLE PULLED THAT OUT OF THEIR BUTT THAT WOULD BE AMAZING!!!
And more than that they were talking about 200ghz developed on a "unkown" platform but had to do with macintosh. G5 ANYONE?!
THAT WOULD BE AN AMAZING ANNOUNCEMENT!

iWalk...... it doesn't look a fake !!! if it is, cheers to the 3D programmer, we didn't even see something like this in Toys story or other kind of computer-made movie. I really think that'S a real one,

iWalk does not exist

Just a small note continuing from yesterday's thread. The iWalk shown, I firmly believe is a fake. Those I know in Apple product dev, have made no mention of this device whatsoever.

Sorry people.

As I said earlier, it should be out 2nd half 2002... but its not the big announcement at MacWorldSF believe it or not.

hmm...

If they make the iMac 1ghz, what will happen to the G4, will that go 1ghz as well? I would have to say that the business mac would have to be atleast 200mhz above the home product. Therefore, will be see 1.2ghz G4s?

The new iMac (which will be rebranded) will debut with a G4 1 GHz chip at max spec. The G4 PowerMac will be bumped up to this spec too, but the PowerMac is really waiting for the G5 chip, so it appears it maybe neglected slightly for a little while until the G5 is in production. I suspect Apple will bump up other specs on the G4 PowerMac, and may discount the dual-processor, to appease the mainly professional market that the PowerMac caters for.

The PowerMac is still a significantly different machine from the iMac/?Mac, although the processor change in the iMac/?Mac line will bring them closer together, for a short time at least.
