Upload the photos to iPhoto and check the geotags if any.

Good idea - but I thought of that - and using Aperture to look at Metadata...no go.

Another recent wrinkle... there was one picture that I took that night - and it came up for importing to itunes TONIGHT! - not last sat when I plugged it in - but tonight. Very odd things are afoot....

Not really a big bother really, just very odd, that's all.

Me too!

I found the same photos on my iPhone 3GS today. I started researching this on the internet and ended up here. Very, very weird. I'm glad I'm not the only one at least!

Maybe Apple is taking the veeeeeeery slow and cautious route to adding to their precious wallpaper gallery.

They look like wallpaper-worthy photos IMO.

Thank you soooooo much for searching! It's days like these that make all the MMS, AT&T, and one broken speaker threads worth it, seeing someone do it right.

jmax3, you're officially my favorite newbie. You have mastered something on your first visit that some never do. Thank you.

Just experienced this myself

Just searched for this exact issue and came across this thread!!

I just connected my iphone and had the same issue, a photo which I did not take on the camera roll. One item that popped up was a movie clip I took, the other was a photo of what looks like two people riding the C-train (the public transit train in town here).

This photo was dated on Saturday @ 9:58pm; I have been home with the flu since Saturday lunch time, and unlike the original poster, no one had access to my iPhone.

A couple other notes:
- I don't have any file/photo sharing apps installed
- the photo is in 640x480 res, not the 1536x2048 I normally use. This makes me think it didn't originate from the iphone.
- I don't know the people in the photo, but it looks like they are from the same city
- Again, no one had access to my iphone during this time.
- No geotaggs in the photo.

I haven't used MMS on the iPhone much, so I'm curious how this actually works... if someone mistakenly sent a photo to me over MMS, does this not start a conversation in the "Messages" application?? Or would it just dump the pic into my camera roll?

Thanks folks, I'll phone Apple and my carrier for any suggestions from them.

Here is some updated info. I used good ol' Graphic Converter to look at the EXIF data on the photo. I'm not too familiar with these fields, but it looks like it may have come from a Motorola device?!?!

Here's the info:

Duh!

Found the issue...

And, yes I'm sure maybe of you already figured it was a user error. This photo was sent to me via email in a series and I somehow must have saved it locally.

Cheers all!

Yes, I was about to suggest MMS or email. And don't be too hard on yourself; you probably had a fever, after all.

Those pictures were on deviantart.com at some point, by a random user. One of the Calgary based pictures appears to be possibly be owned by Randi Scott at Brantford Selections.

Me too!

I took a photo of a piece of ice under my car today and when I went to look at the new photo on the Camera Roll, I noticed the same exact two photos posted earlier right before my newly snapped photo. Since they are the same photos, I'm assuming they found there way in there by way of some recently downloaded app. My most recent app is Siri Assistant but it has nothing to do with photos or photography. Very strange...

over 2k of someone elses pictures

A few weeks ago I went to look through my pictures on my cell (its a ravine from Verizon) However the phone would get stuck on the "loading" screen for indefinite periods of time. Finally I went to the tools menu and then phone settings, display settings and then wallpaper, it then allowed me to view my photos and videos. I was completely shocked to find 2500 photos in my phone! I have a storage chip in it so its not quite full there were also almost 300 videos! most seemed to come from the same person, some girl from Houston who plays the guitar. I tried to find her on youtube she called herself Hannah Atlanta from Houston. To me its pretty scary that when someone takes pic's with their phone they can suddenly be in someone else's devise. How could this happen? I mean I had at best 400 pic's in my phone so over 2000 were someone else's that's freakin scary. It means someone out there could have MY pictures. I'm not very fond of that tho I have nothing to hide I do want privacy!

That doesn't really seem to be Apple related though.
