So I have the GM and and was waiting until today to do a clean install. Since I downloaded the GM it already says Installed in the app store.

I'm thinking I'll go ahead and make my Lion DVD install disk using the GM since

1. It seems to be a newer build

2. I can't get today's app store version anyway since it won't let me purchase it due to it thinking Lion is already installed.

Anyone see any downside to going ahead with the continued use of the GM?

Same Problem here, i can not buy OS X Lion via Mac App Store because i have newer version (GM) already installed.
The Question is, when the Mac App Store "App" gets newer, can i buy it then, or can you only buy 11A494 in the App Store and the following updates are only available through the normal Software Update?

Diamondaine :apple:

The downside is that you'll likely not be able to update to 10.7.1 and beyond since Software Update checks exact build numbers (and checksums) to identify the version of OS X you're using. Unless Apple specifically added 11A511 to the update-able version list, it probably won't go past 10.7.0.

However there was no seed note with the GM build specifically stating that you couldn't update to the release version. That seem to me to mean that come 10.7.1, the GM should update with no problem.

If you look in the package for the developer GM release, at the info.plist file, you'll see the following version number:

11A494

This matches the current release being sold now via the App Store, according to reports (http://inagist.com/veeence/93671381...vailable_in_the_App_Store_apparently_carries_)

However, it appears that if you click Apple -> About this Mac when running the developer GM release, you see a different version number.

This might be a bug. However, as I've already posted, the best thing if you really want to get what everybody else gets (and bear in mind this is necessary if you want to receive updates) is to trash the developer GM build, close/reopen the App Store, and click the Install button alongside Lion to download it afresh.

found this on another page

I'm seeing counter reports that 11A511 is in fact the retail release.

Can anyone post a convincing grab demonstrating the build number? I've still got 24 mins to install here :/

Thanks.

So basically, Apple thought that 11A511 was too buggy for the final release and decided to release the previous build instead. Well done, Apple!

Well there is some difference between 11A494 and 11A494a I would assume. But, yeah, they released a prior build. I have at least one iMac that gets kernel panics (although very infrequently) due to 11A511. Never happened with 10.6.x or any version of Lion except the last one. And if you look through the forums here you'll see KPs are common among certain MacBook Pros. This is probably the issue that caused them to roll the release version back. 10.7.1 might very well be 11A511 with a fix for the KP issue...

EDIT: Or maybe not, there are conflicting reports as to what the release build actually is.

Sorry i was wrong, the GM build is the same as the Appstore build!

So I don't get it. Others are saying that 11A511 is the released version and others are saying that a previous version was released. How can that be possible?

The Installer has the wrong version number. While the Installer lists it as 11A494, the actual version it installs is 11A511.

A very simple solution if you want to purchase and download the appstore lion

If you have Lion GM installed and appstore refuse to take your money and allow you to download the just released retail Lion, simply hold option while you click buy and it will bypass the version check.

Although I have a Paid developer account and have installed - I have used this method to download a " release version" anyway - thx.
