Something Big Coming in September?

I think the A5 in itself would be a massive update. With double the processing power and 9x graphics power over the A4, it competes with the current crop of hardware. The A4 in the iPhone 4 was a minor speed bump to the 3GS processor. The camera, RAM, and screen were the only real updates in the iPhone 4. If the iPhone 5 gets updated camera, RAM, processor, and possibly screen and storage, it will be the most significant upgrade to the lineup yet.

That was just apart of wwdc. I guess your calling this apart if the iPod event? Which doesn't seem to get much attention. At least I never watch it. I hope apple is planning something bug with the iPhone to draw attention to their September event.

Weren't the 3G, the 3GS and the 4 all part of WWDC? I'm not an expert on my Apple history. ;)

I really feel like they're going to consolidate the iPhone/iPod event into one event (maybe even consolidate the iPhone/iPod into one product?) in September. And you know that Apple will make it an event. :D

My source at Apple says that whatever's going to happen with the iPhone is NOT going to happen in September.
FWIW.

I'm starting to get the feeling (with all the rumors popping up on news sites) that this iPhone delay may be because Apple is going to really knock our socks off with a newly designed iPhone 5 and (ducks) a "Lite" version.

Can Apple do it or will they disappoint?

The oft stated rumors of A5, better camera, iOS5, etc are pretty good already. IPhone 4 is a beautful device and it's selling like mad now. If another carrier is added it will lead to more sales, etc.

Why does Apple have to have offer a major redesign?

The only thing I would want over the above is a larger screen without enlarging the footprint. I certainly don't want one of those bulky designs or something the size of a small Plasma HDTV.

You could fit a 4" screen on a phone that's only about 5mm wider than the iPhone 4 is now. Stop complaining about how giant the iPhone 5 would be, I'm more than sure you have an extra 5mm in your pocket.

Verizon's 4G LTE is ready, however, AT&T's isn't. They need to expand quicker, plus they're merging with T-Mobile next year. It just makes so much more sense for Apple to wait another year for 4G. Everything would be ready.

All I see in this iPhone is:

A5
8 megapixel camera
Bigger Battery
Some "revolutionary" new feature

Bigger screen? No. All the apps are designed for 960x640 and 480x320. The iPhone 4's selling point is the RETINA display. Bigger screen = worse quality, and higher resolution = messed up apps. Not going to happen anytime soon.

Re-design? No. It was just redesigned last year.

Why wouldn't there be a bigger screen? Bigger screen could be anywhere between 3.6" to 4", and at 3.8" it will still be above the 'retina' level of 300. So i don't see why the screen can't go to a 3.8" display.

Redesign? After all the bad publicity the iPhone 4 got, and the complaints that people had about it.. from the Antennagate, to shattering glass, to sensors etc. not to mention how it's not ergonomic. I'd be surprised if there wasn't a redesign.

I'm really hoping for:

A5 Dual Core (given)
Better camera (given)
Bigger screen (3.7" or 3.8" would be ideal)
Better RAM

Then I wouldn't have anything to add to the iPhone, it would be absolutely perfect in my eyes.

Hmmm with gestures starting to become heavily integrated, how about an iPhone with no home button, hence same form factor as iphone 4 except screen slightly bigger due to the lack of a physical home button?

Would be neat, but removing the home button doesn't make the screen bigger. The screen will hit the edge of the phone before the home button/ear piece.

But I do dig the concepts of the capacitive touch home button seen around the 'net.

QFT! In fact, Apple themselves said the iPhone took 18 months from design to production. I would wager that they planned on using the form factor this coming refresh originally, but due to the bad publicity kick-started the next design into high gear. It would explain the delay...

I did a bit of "mathing" on the screen dimensions and, if I'm correct (no promises) and if the rumor of an edge-to-edge screen is true, then the next iPhone could use the same resolution as the current iPad on a 4" screen and only increase the width of the phone by about 5 or 6 mm. That would not only satisfy the "fragmentation" argument, but would keep the pixel density at Retina levels, 320dpi to be precise. This would also hide any new resolution from being revealed in iOS 5.

There is DEFINITELY going to be a bigger screen. Most phones now are in the 4" range. I looked at a 4.5" screen on AT&T the other day and it wasn't THAT big. It was rather thin and felt good in the hand. I think it was called Infuse or something like that. Not sure.

Come on now, we've been on 3.5" since 2007. Its time to move on to a bigger screen. 3.5" was once big, now it seems small. Honestly, I'm tired of how small it is now. I guess its because I've had all four iPhones.

Lol, alright. There will not be a bigger screen, stop fooling yourselves. They sold this thing as a phone with a super screen at 326 ppi.

An increase to 3.8 inches would make no significant difference, and would make them have to redesign the case. They wouldn't do that for such a small difference. I see them going to 4", and they need to figure out something with the resolution. Faster processor, better camera and more ram are a given.

However, I could careless about a faster processor, for what, to open my apps .3 seconds quicker? It's not like it's loading flash! ;)

I hope the T-Mobile version will be announced. I am finally ready to leave RIM and make the switch. Leaving T-Mobile is not an option, so I hope the rumors are true.

I wanna flip my phone over, lay it face down and use the backside as a heating device and cooking tool...we can call it 'iToast" but then we have to have a discussion with Roxio about copy right names.

Will it toast a little apple logo onto the bread? Magical!
