Edit: I'm sorry, It's just a mockup. I don't have much coding experience & no iPhone coding experience. I didn't mean to get people's hopes up

So, I got this idea in the middle of my Statistics class today. A slimmed-down version of Microsoft Office (just Word, Excel & PowerPoint) for the iPhone/ iPod Touch. The pictures speak for themselves in terms of what features I thought fit well with the iPhone/ iTouch GUI & setup. The pictures were easy to make, the video was a bit hard to pull off (required replacing Default.png & Icon.png from an app & using my built-in iSight to record it, hence the weirdness of it). But, overall, I think it came out pretty good. :)

That looks pretty sweet, but my question is: is there a word processor app for the iphone yet? I'm planning on getting an iphone by the end of the month and there was a word app of some sort that would be great. Does anyone know of one?

    http://code.google.com/p/ioffice/ :)

    ****WARNING****

It's just an idea at this point. No actual code is there. Just some mock up & some filetype tests I did. If people are interested in joining the project, just send me a message there.

    ****AGAIN, WARNING****

No code exists on the site yet. It is just an idea. Please do not assume that it is an actual app yet

Well you'll need to rename it for a start - can't call it Microsoft Office when they never wrote it! And again why have a (c) to Microsoft on the splash?

There is obviously no substance to this - if you have no coding experience you'd be better off saying "here's some pictures of what I think an office compatible app WOULD look like". And really can't see the point of the video except to try and deceive people into thinking this was actually in development!

Kudos to you for editting your post and putting the story straight tho'.

I wasn't trying to intentionally deceive people. It was just a demo on how I thought it would work. I said in my original post that it was just an idea that I had during class. I don't think many people could code all of that in one afternoon :p (I could be wrong though) Again, it was not my intention to deceive ANYONE & I'm sorry if I inadvertidly got people's hopes up :(

    office apps

I would love to see slimmed down versions of the Office apps on the iPhone. Atleast ones that could read attached excel, word, and powerpoint docs. I would love to give a powerpoint presentation from my iPhone. btw, I found more info on other iPhone apps at http://personafile.com/iPhone-apps.html

Office on a iPhone? Looks good. If people were to write up the code that would be even better.

note- I knw the pics are mocks, however if someone does do this many people wold really like it to have a word processor in your pocket. (besides the iPhone's native Notes app)

http://ioffice.googlecode.com I've got some Wiki pages up with some results of some filetype tests that I did. Trying to see which of the office formats can be opened normally & viewed. This is the first step, I think. If I can figure out how they display the document, maybe I could write a front end for just viewing the documents, for now anyways.

I've got a "Project Goals" wiki page set up http://code.google.com/p/ioffice/wiki/ProjectGoalsTimeline

I'm gonna start coding some basic stuff once I can get the Toolchain properly installed which should be soon, hopefully. If Apple does announce an SDK on Tuesday that would allow for easy porting of "unofficial" apps to Apple's SDK then, I'm gonna move this to their SDK proabably.

A true Microsoft Office developed by Microsoft will never appear on the iphone. As long as Windows Mobile exists, there is no way Bill would give people another incentive to buy an iPhone. I'm sure that someone like Docs to Go will adapt their products for the iPhone once the API comes out. They'll have to. It's not like the Palm platform is going anywhere.
