A friend of mine put twin 300s on as rear surround and my ears were shocked at how good they sounded. I just don't expect very good sound from relatively low-cost speakers. If you do it, enjoy them.

My sister just picked up an Arc last year and I sent her this sale info, suggesting she add the 300s and maybe the sub too.

Did we not just have "Deleted" photos reviving on Apple tech last week? What else might be wrong with Apple's development process/product quality?

How about the absolute doom from the EU law going into effect... that security lapses would wipe our poor friends in the EU out- millions and millions of them. Do we realize that will be in place for 3 months now in only a few more days? Where's the armageddon? Has there been ONE story of a security issue yet? It makes one wonder what else might be wrong with what Apple tells us.

This crowd certainly seemed to think Vpro was half-baked or un-baked after 6-8 years of development- something much bigger and far more pricey than a free app. Makes one wonder what else might be wrong with Apple's development process/product quality.

And then there's that "unfixable hardware hack hole" in every single M1-M3 chip. Makes you wonder...

Butterly keyboards? Batterygate? <all those other> gates? "You're holding it wrong"? This list could be quite long.

See how that works? If we're going to sling an insinuation, be careful that the ones we choose can't boomerang right back at our favorite company.

All tech companies get things right & wrong, roll out winners & losers, make good and bad decisions. Our favorite doesn't get a pass just as "the rest" shouldn't be held to a standard that the favorite can't live up to themselves.

When did I bring Apple into the argument or gave them a pass? The things you listed reflects just as badly on Apple as this app launch does on Sonos.

The issue with SONOS speakers is that people evaluate them as a standalone speaker. The point of SONOS speakers is the multi-room capabilities. That's not to say you can't just pick up any of their speakers and use them as is but the multi-room capability is factored into the price premium you pay. So if you're looking at just the 5, for example, at $549 USD for a single speaker, can you get something that sounds better for cheaper? Probably but when you start adding speakers to the setup, that's where someone might find the value in SONOS.

Same thing with Apple. A Mac or iPad might be "overpriced" as standalone products, but you start adding and building your own Apple ecosystem where you have Apple products that work together well, there's value there where someone might want to spend the extra money.

For as crappy as Visio TV‘s are, their SB’s are actually pretty good (bang for the buck wise)

Exactly! And that is where I just can't see a competitor or any party that is better for the money. The home we are renovating has 14 'spaces', to me, Sonos doesn't sound the best for all applications, but the multi-room aspect and ease of use is top-notch. And you can integrate traditional listening setups where you really appreciate it.

Just buy KEF, much better company
There are many companies that make great speakers, both passive and active. Many that are way better than Kef. But as a system for multi-room is Kef better? Perhaps for some, but not for the many.

Agreed. I am 80% happy with my Sonos speakers. Some connectivity issues occasionally. I have the Beam connected to my TV and the smaller speakers in my kitchen, office and bathroom. But I'd love to hear which alternatives exist, which 1. are wireless and 2. support multi room playback, preferably supporting AirPlay.

I’m sure the App will get fixed eventually and isn’t a big deal in and of itself. I think part of people’s concerns was also the fact that Sonos was okay putting something out half-baked in the first place. It makes you wonder what else might be wrong with their development process/product quality.
Entirely agree. This happens when companies become complacent.
