Yeah, no thanks.

Maybe spend your efforts getting back to a point where your products “just work”, like they used to before Patrick Spence decided he knew better than his customers.

Do you honestly think anyone is interested in your products right now when you STILL haven’t addressed fully your dismal app?

Maybe once you get stable software that doesn’t require a network engineer and an act of god to get my system working again after one of your so-called “updates” we can talk.

Until then, nope.

this product is DOA- nobody trusts the company anymore after they totally destroyed their perfectly good app.

also lol at paying a premium for android tv when tvOS is superior and only $100

Sonos' set-top box will double as an HDMI switch and it has HDMI ports with passthrough functionality. Users will be able to plug in gaming consoles, soundbars, and other devices. The device solves a latency problem that has long annoyed Sonos, and it will prevent TVs from experiencing audio sync delays with Sonos-branded soundbars.
So their kit has faced latency problems, and even though they just released a new sound bar where they could have added HDMI passthrough but chose not to.... all makes sense now why they didn't really bother tackling this issue with their hardware when they were planning on getting you to spend another 200-400 to fix it on top of god knows how many thousands people spent on their home cinema set up.

Their speakers are pretty good, but as with a lot of tech these days, the infrastructure is built on sand and your hard earned sound system is just one update away from being bricked.

Hey Sonos, instead of putting your efforts on a new product how about fixing what you broke ? The App still a total disaster and failure . Can’t wait until their next failure. Sadly they have good hardware but their software is lacking by a lot !

Given that basically every new tv has a bunch of this built in already, I don't see the point. The Apple TV is nice because the interface is miles away better than our Smart TV's, and it's way faster too. Its price is already higher than competitors.

$200 for a streaming box is laughable.
Dude Apple TV is $150 plus tax. Is it that far off.

I’ve been perplexed that they never released an app for the existing boxes (Apple TV, Roku, etc). Seemed like a no-brainer. Now they need proprietary hardware to provide control from your TV?

I feel like Sonos has tarnished its brand so much, that people simply don't care now. The app is working, mostly, but FFS it's still buggy and I wonder what they believe about public sentiment at this point. Back before this, when Sonos worked, it really worked well. Now, you kinda get what you get... *shrug*. I'm not sure Google's Nest speaker system (is that still a thing) is much better.

I use AppleTV boxes with both my TVs. I have tried Roku, Chromecast and Amazon Fire and didn’t care for either of them. I think Sonos speakers offer a value and quality similar to Apple. I know they’ve made some poor decisions recently and sometimes there’s connectivity issues to the point you need to reset to factory settings and setup system from new. But, as someone else pointed out “competition is good”, and I love seeing new tech products released. That’s why I’m a tech nerd, doesn’t mean I will make the purchase but it’s exciting. I feel like a child on Christmas morning . ✌🏻
NVIDIA Shield. Give it go.

"a unified software experience that supports universal search"

Yeah, good luck with that...
If there's anything we've learned from ten years or so of Apple TV it's that, no matter how good the provided player and UI, some idiot at Netflix or Disney or HBO will consider it vitally important, for "branding" purposes, to do things differently and to BREAK that unified experience...

Paying for poor leadership.

Yeah, I'm sure this is going to work out great. To control the upcoming overpriced streaming box, they'll roll out the Sonos S3 app that deprecates all prior Sonos products. Don't worry, you can keep your legacy products on the separate S2 and S1 apps. Hopefully, one day Sonos can fill an entire phone screen with S# apps.

Way back when i got my original Zone player devices (maybe 15++ years ago) I always wondered why sonos didn't come out with a device that could just pump video around the place, like audio. the ZP device has Line in, which you can then cast to any other sonos device in your network. Why not make it hdmi in, and have other devices that have hdmi out. Then I could easily watch what ever in the kitchen / or living room, sync rooms etc. No reason why video should be any different to audio.

This would have absolutely killed it. Now with streaming video everywhere this would slay so hard.

Probably a rights thing, people getting their panties in a bunch .. well plex fills the gap but it's not as slick as a sonos system could have been.

Do I have to register with Sonos to use their products?

I hope you don't need a Sonos account for the new TV box. Does anyone have Sonos products and can answer this question?

What I've been wanting to see from Sonos is higher end speakers and more audio I/O.

What I've seen is yet another pair of bluetooth headphones and now a useless video streaming box.

This is what the home theater has been missing. The concept correct now the implementation the next big step. Could be a big deal if done right. As far as pricing, the current Sonos complete home theater cost over 3k. So four hundred not a huge deal if it works as advertised.

If Sonos wants to make its audio for video solutions stand out it should apply AI to muting commercials. That would be a huge win.

in an age when the chips in smart tvs have gotten so good that these little boxes are pointless and redundant... I really only have an Apple TV cus I'm so into apple stuff. my LGCX is plenty fast and effective for streaming
