Holy smokes! $400?! I was pretty much “all in” this until I saw that price.

$250 I would line up the night before. $300 or even $325 is steep but I get it because it’s a premium brand. But $400 is astronomical!

Guess I’m holding off until the holiday sales to see if there’s a discount.

Hadn't yet decided to go for a pair of HomePods or invest in a Sonos system, but I think with these new products coming out I'm definitely going more towards a full Sonos system, rather than the restricted HomePod.

I recently made the same decision and bought into a Sonos system 6 months ago. You won’t regret it.

Look at the history of software updates and new features that Sonos provides and you’ll view it as an investment worth making; they support their stuff for many years. The variety of SKUs is great too — I love LOVE my Sonos Beam and, at least for now, that’s just not a market Apple or the HomePod is pursuing.

Ok so I woke up just waaay to early and started to read this article with a headphone on my head, and a cup of coffee next to me, but I should have that coffee first. Jeez. $399 Really? For that kind of money it better floats. Guess the losses Sonos made with the Ikea deal have to be ‘recovered’ soon or their boat sinks?

On a serious note. I hope that the sound is worth it...

It gets worse.... No ability to use the Move as home theater surrounds (according to Sonos website)?! Ouch!

That’s a hard pass for me then. I can’t sell the wife on buying three speakers (two for rear surrounds, one for portability) — that just seems silly that they didn’t provide that functionality, especially for 400 clams.

Hopefully they add this in a software update, otherwise this one is a hard pass for me!

Six pounds. Not sure Sonos quite understand the concept of portable :D

You must have very weak arms if you can’t carry this to the garden or beach. I love the feeling of weight in a well made product.

I like the fact that they offer a version with no microphone. Some of us do not want listening devices in our homes but want to have the latest speaker technology. :)

The listening is turned on or off as you wish. A simple tap is all it takes.

Out of curiosity what did Sonos release today that makes you want to jump in? A $400 portable speaker and $20 cheaper Sonos One seems awfully meh for a product release. Hoping they release something more.. I have a number of Sonos speakers, but I don't see what they released today that's very exciting.

I’d definitely be interested in a portable speaker, just not at this price point.

Its really due to the variety of products and constant updates sonos products receive, I could be waiting years before Apple has anything similar, if that’s even where Apple are going with their smart speakers.

Right, the price is what kills this. For $400 that's the price of 2 Sonos Ones. Can't imagine this sounds any better than a single Sonos One.

I have a few HomePods too. Both have their pluses and minuses. Was really hoping Sonos would come out with a small/cheaper sub. I'd really like one to pair with my bedroom Beam, but I can't justify that price.

I dumped Sonos after they recently stopped supporting streaming from my phone. That was a very disappointing move.
That feature had been implemented in 2012, using a method that became unreliable (had a good number of dropouts myself over the past year from my Play:1). I got my Sonos Play:1 in December 2013, that’s almost six years ago! I just got two new Sonos One (Gen 2) speakers a few days ago. I had a feeling the Sonos Move would be $100 more so I thought I would be better off with the Sonos One. I have a couple of portable Bluetooth speakers so I didn’t really need another one. Now, that I just found out that the Move is really $200 more, I really feel like I’m better off. I think Sonos is making the same mistake Apple did with the HomePod, charging at least $100 too much. Apple eventually reduced the price and probably so will Sonos. Now at 6 pounds, that’s not really portable to me, unless Sonos meant portability just in your home (different rooms).

For the price of a Sonos One SL and a $12 extension cord I've got my own Move for 1/2 the price.

What has the margin got to do with how consumers value the product?

If consumers thought the HomePod was good value Apple would probably have sold a few more of them.

How many Homepods has Apple sold? Oh you don't know....
