I'm surprised you're hearing this for the first time, but a PS4 is a games console. A Mac is a computer.
Yes and a computer does more things at once..you can edit a 4K video while playing video games on your MacBook, and you don't even need to use CDs anymore

I've always thought it was ironic that the PS3 and PS4 controller "just works" with a Mac via Bluetooth (no need to install any drivers or anything), while the XBOX 360 and XBOne controller does not work with a PC (must connect a USB cable, and I forget if you have to install anything).

Though I think I read the new improved XBOX controller will finally use Bluetooth. About time.

If you can edit a 4K video whilst playing video games on your MacBook, I'd be surprised if you're playing anything beyond Chess.

Ease off on the hyperbole. Both devices are optimised for different things.

Which laptop is that featured in this advertisement below?????????????????????????

From the font, looks like maybe a Sony Vaio maybe? Sony was always good about product placement (i.e. in their movies).

Why buy a Mac when you have an iPad? —

Just when you think you know what a game console is... you see a controller.... that's totally not in the way. Joysticks you can touch, and even buttons. When you see a game console that can do all that, it might just make you think, "Hey! Why else can it do?"

Exactly! I've been using MacBook Pro for many years now! but now I'm about to switch to an iPad Pro - more light, more compact and more powerful!

Wow! it almost look like a MacBook clone but from cheap materials

For what need should I use a ps4 controller on a macbook? Apple just uses cheap low-mid-end gfx-chips, so these are no fun gaming machines.

Get a ps4 for 250 bucks and get ready to rumble!

Yes but the games for Mac are optimised slightly better!
Probably, but atleast we can do more things than once, MacBook would probably be a lot faster than is now if those were made by Apple, you can't blame Apple for Intel's failures, but Apple did manage to make the world's thinnest laptop while maintaining a decent performance, can you even imagine how many breakthrough technologies they used to make that laptop so thin? a lot!

If Steve Jobs was alive he will be happy about what Tim Cook had accomplished and probably a little jealous :)

Remote play via the mac app on the PS4. Hotel wifi and connecting in to your PS4 at home. Granted it can be sketchy but I have done it across Europe, connected in to my home PS4 in the UK from a hotel in Germany.

My main wonder is how many controllers can the dongle support, the current situation is a single controller via USB.

Wait, what? We're talking about a PS4. A modern games console will smoke a Mac for games performance. That's why it's a device designed to solely play games. Am I missing something you're trying to say?

Just looking at Steam shows the huge market on PC. Sony sees what Microsoft is doing right now, which is merging the Xbox and PC platforms into more of a unified system. First, there's cross play between PCs and Xbox over Xbox Live. Then you have the Xbox being more like an upgradable console, possibly from Scorpio onwards. Or at least they'll be going with quicker upgrade cycles (perhaps 2-3 years) that emphasize backwards compatibility with differing levels of graphical fidelity. This is a model that has worked well for Apple, with frequent hardware upgrades, software upgrades, and connectivity between all devices that allows for games on iOS to work across a range of devices. It's a smart move by Microsoft, and it's smart that Sony is recognizing this and making some early changes to position themselves to compete. The main problem is that Microsoft owns the PC platform, so that could present roadblocks for Sony. Integration is key. It's also interesting how they've pretty much ceded mobile gaming to Apple, and maybe Nintendo, as all I hear about now is the PC gaming integration when it used to be all about integrating with mobile. I think at some point they realized that they can't compete with the crap pay to play model on mobile. These people care about making legit games with great stories and that is difficult to do on mobile and sell at a profit.
Pokemon Go sold more than any other games in history and had better profit, games with stories was great back in the day when people were still using CDs

Because the iPad Pro its revolutionary product especially 12.9 inch and it runs iOS not some cheap Nintendo OS, can see nothing on that tiny little screen...does even have a multi-touch screen?

I wonder why they couldn't just connect via Bluetooth, like it does to a PS4? Maybe the PS4 uses some special Bluetooth? It seems kind of magical how much Sony accomplishes via BT compared to how crumby Bluetooth is on most other devices. Hmm...

But, I guess I'm wondering what to do with it. Will it interface to any game? Keyboard mappings?

I use an app called Controllers to use my DS3 (PS3) controller with my Mac currently for Minecraft (as I can't stand the keyboard... I'm a console guy I guess). It connects via Bluetooth, but I haven't tried one of my PS4 controller yet (nor have I really wanted to).
https://vividmachine.com/controllers/

Interesting though. I wish they'd implement the DS3 or DS4 for the iPad though, as Minecraft PE is *very* popular and almost makes me sick to try and play with no controller.

No, the problem is the GPU. Aside from the very highest end iMac or Mac Pro, they aren't even in the same universe as the PS4.

If Steve Jobs was alive he will be happy about what Tim Cook had accomplished and probably a little jealous :)

If Jobs were still alive, Cook wouldn't be running the place, and Apple would be going places, instead of downhill. Cook is doing a really great job running off the brand reputation. Unfortunately, he's running the company the way Apple was run in the 90s. Operations and marketing expertise will only work so long once he's destroyed Apple's brand reputation.

Yea, they had a really good couple of weeks. https://www.macrumors.com/2016/08/23/steady-decline-popularity-pokemon-go/ I'm not sure I'd brag up Pokemon Go for much of anything besides really dumbed-down bored populace, and good viral marketing.

I was surprised at how well Playstation Now ran...

For certain kinds of games, I suppose, IMO, Sony blew PS Now because they area looking at it more as a cash-cow to put into hotels and such, rather than backward-compatibility for their existing client-base. And, the pricing is simply insane. That said, it looks like they now realize they've got us hooked on Plus, so they are jacking up their prices there to increase the cash. They make some cool stuff, for sure, but seem pretty clueless on customer-service, marketing, etc.

People doesn't play games with intensive graphics anymore, modern games are a lot lighter these days and more fun and interactive, Nintendo knows it! you probably still playing those classics games like Infinity Blade, it was cool back then but now we need move on

I fear you're a little out of touch. Resource intensive games, pushing the current limits of graphics technology, are more common place and popular now than they ever were.

I can't agree more. That's really the only thing keeping it from taking off as it's already a very capable box. The current controller offerings are good at best.

Agreed! A good controller is really important, and Sony, possibly Microsoft, seem to be the only two companies that get that.

Seriously.... you mean Pokemon Go? They have a few classic games and a couple compelling modern titles. That's about it.

You're correct, in that there are now a whole new category of casual gamers created by mobile platforms, and yes, most of them are pretty 'flat' simplistic, etc. That's a whole other category of gaming though. Two different worlds.

That sounds Nerdy ;) isn't this kinda laggy?

That's why there are Millions and millions gen consoles sold and Nintendo is selling less and less?

LOL I know. I own one. And it basically just sits there collecting dust. The 2 hour battery life and bulkiness of it kind of ruins the experience, though the Pro controller fixed that issue. But easily my least favourite console of this generation and I've always loved Nintendo.

Wait, why does this require an adapter? It should be entirely Bluetooth, no? Also, article says the Lightbar will work. How, doesn't that require a camera?
Macbooks and iMacs have cameras built in. But I don't see why the adapter is necessary. Probably just the method they wanted to get compensated.

I haven't used remote Play yet, but something like this makes it a more attractive option. Especially at that price point.
Yeah, I guess this means that for whatever reason, I could play Playstation games on my iMac while my PS4 sits in the other room. Kinda sounds fun to try for novelty and flexibility (like if my GF is chilling in the living room and I want to weirdly game all alone in my office)

Apparently the 40+ million PS4 users didn't get the memo. Those units are selling almost as fast as the PS2. There's a reason why Nintendo is working on the NX

The PS4 is the best controller I have ever used. I think it is really nice - a great fit and much better than prior PlayStation controllers. I consider it right up there with Xbox controllers. Now if I could use them on the Apple TV and if Apple would allow people to mandate controllers instead of their disaster contoller that would be awesome.

Brb, selling my Xbox One controller for this.

(obviously, I'm exaggerating, but I really could consider this because I LOVE the PS4 controller. Only problem is what is the compatibility? If it can emulate XB360 mapping, then I'm all for it. Otherwise, I'll have to wait until games support this, but that wouldn't be great).
