I hate mobile games because of lootboxes, IAP. I wish Playstation made another handheld that could avoid these problems and more powerful than a 13 PM. Mobile Gaming just sucks at the moment.

Now if only Apple partnered with Sony to work on controller mounts and getting great AAA games into iOS and iPad OS. The Apple TV could be a hit.

Ahh one can dream.
Getting great AAA games into macOS, you mean!!

Why would Sony do that? Mobile games not only tend to be pay-to-win garbage but awful quality as well. They need to stick to consoles

Because the in app purchase ‘freemium’ or free to play business model is incredibly lucrative. That’s why, they have millions more then happy to spend their money with them, their games are a huge success. I bet anything their games will be in app purchase based free titles, and they can be put onto a huge market with little effort, with access to billions of people on mobile devices.

Apple would never do this but if Apple were to one day buy all of Sony I wouldn’t be angry. Wouldn’t make sense it all areas and there would be some overlap. But imagine them having Sony Pictures/Columbia Pictures, Sony Television and all of its IP. PlayStation with all of its game studios, IP, online userbase and cloud gaming network plus VR. Camera lens/imaging business. Bravia Television and soundbar business. Sell the music business. But man would the FCC and DOJ not be happy.
It's amazing that SONY's market cap is 'only' $100B in the US with all of that content.

In app purchasing. It’s why mobile gaming sucks.
The biggest PC games are all IAP hell , GTA online , Dota2 , League of legends , Counter strike , Fortnight , Apex , CoD and the list goes ON AND ON , basically pick any top game in twitch and its an IAP dominated game , that's the life we are in right now , its not mobile only , far from it , but I would agree that Mobile does have that public image while PC does not when it should.

I just hope Apple will heavily invest in AAA games, since now the M chips has the power to run them.
Don't count on it.

Also the M chips being dominant is temporary. The same as how when PowerPC was a thing it's dominance over Intel was temporary. As soon as other manufacturers catch up it won't be anything special, as much as people here refuse to understand or believe basic business practice.

As for AAA games, Apples not a game company. They'd be truely awful at it as they have precisely zero knowledge or experience of game development, or it's customers. You can get away with selling a computer or phone for thouands. Apple charging $200 for a game though? Nah. Leave it to the people who know what they are doing. Apple Arcade should be enough of an indicator of how awful Apple would be with gaming.

Apple should probably stay away from creating game itself. But, BUT, it could make deals with big companies and entice them for future developments. I really miss great games on Apple ecosystem.

They did kinda have that once with Aspyr who ported games to the mac in the early days of the Intel switch, but the performance was often pretty dire. The problem is no AAA developer is going to waste time on maintaining a copy of a game on a totally different architecture, where they can't use DirectX. That's a monumental undertaking for a tiny weeny little group of people.

Metal isn't anywhere near in the league of DirectX so it's not even a case of being able to switch between the two - it simply isn't good enough to work well, and even M1 isn't powerful enough graphically for some AAA games.

Are all of those games (except GTA) free to play?

"begin producing mobile games"?

Sony makes Fate/Grand Order, one of the most successful games in the App Store.

They also owned Game Show Network games until recently, who have dozens of iOS games. They sold them in exchange for a part share of Scopely, who are like...the fourth biggest developer in the store by revenue I think?

Different business units. So that revenue doesn't (technically) belong to Sony Interactive Entertainment, it belongs to Sony Entertainment (Sony Music Group Japan and Sony Pictures, respectively).

The news out of Sony's gaming division hasn't been very reassuring of late.
I mean...God of War Ragnarok is in November, and there's the annual Playstation Showcase next month with new info on Spider-Man 2, Wolverine, and more.

I've got a PS5 and an iPad , I play a lot more on the iPad as most of the games on the psn are utter garbage ( cost a small fortune too )

Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart? Returnal? Demon Souls? The Last of Us Part 1? Persona 5 Royal? Stray? Final Fantasy 7 Remake Integrade? Kingdom Hearts All in One Collection? Horizon Forbidden West? Gran Turismo 7? Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut? Death Stranding Director's Cut? Uncharted Legacy of Thieves Collection? Elden Ring? Spider-Man??? God of War?!?!

You have all this greatness at your fingertips, accessible through the PS Plus Collection, and you're stuck with low budget predatory mobile games on your iPad.

I love the fact you defaulted to the multiplayer live service games and none of the single player games, especially Sony's big exclusives that they're now porting to PC. Don't have to worry about IAP if you just play single player greatness.

It’s called money. Whether any console or PC gamer wants to admit it, the mobile game market dwarves the traditional one. You can add all the Switch, PlayStation, Xbox and PC games together, it wouldn’t even come close to what Apple and Google churn out of their app stores.

It can serve as a bridge, especially with traditional gaming adopting similar models (sadly). This particular crowd would likely buy a console of some type rather than a PC. More than likely, this crowd hasn’t bought any kind of PC since tablets became common place.

It wasn’t a huge success for Nintendo, except for Fire Emblem and Pokémon Go, but they still made decent cash. It didn’t interfere with their normal game development, although they had sent it out to DeNA to develop.

Apple will never enter the AAA gaming market because they would never be able to convince anyone to pay such astronomically high prices for a computer that still gets absolutely trounced in games by PCs that cost half as much.

More like they can’t convince developers to optimize for their hardware. Granted it didn’t used to be worth it. Hopefully that has changed with M1 but Apple still doesn’t seem to understand what they’re doing wrong. They expect the developers to come to them. As I understand it developer relations in general with Apple are not great right now.

Microtransactions aren't limited to mobile games. The obvious microtransactions are battle passes, loot boxes, and skins. But Assassin's Creed Odyssey has microtransactions to cut out grindy parts of the game, pay to not play (under the name 'timesavers'):

AC Odyssey is almost four years old, this isn't new. Let alone the fact that Ubisoft has been releasing the same trash game with this franchise several times over, you couldn't pay me to play these...

EA got roasted for MTX in Starwars Battlefront 2...

Yes the M series chips have made the Macs actually viable for proper AAA gaming, but hardware isn't the issue. The issue, is Apple. Apple hates game developers, and game developers hate Apple. Ever since OpenGL got divested in macOS Mojave in 2018, developers had a mass exodus from the Mac, made even worse with macOS Catalina killing off legacy support for 32 bit games. The Mac library of games wiped out in an instant.

The final nail though was Apple vs Epic, more specifically the testimonies within. Apple execs confused why consoles would be sold at a loss, Tim Cook not knowing who Valve or Steam were (despite having them as a main keynote speaker during WWDC 2016 presenting the defunct SteamVR for Mac,) and more baffling comments that showed how out of touch Apple truly is with the game industry. Comments that have been mocked and ridiculed across the internet, some even turned into Ace Attorney memes.

What do game developers want? macOS support for the Vulkan API. What do they get instead? "Use Metal or go somewhere else." Well guess what, they went somewhere else lmao. No one wants to learn a graphical API only available on one platform, a platform their games won't sell well to begin with who's platform holder actively hates them and puts restrictive rules on them. It's just like what happened with the PlayStation 3. The PS3 had a unique architecture and was complicated to develop on, on top of being overpriced initially, and draconian rules and bullish behavior from Sony, so most just ignored the platform and developed for Xbox 360 instead. So learning from this Sony made the PS4 they asked what developers wanted, and they wanted a system that was easy to develop for as possible. So Sony designed the PS4 with all their requests, and as a result they dominated the 8th generation, outselling Xbox One by 3 to 1.

If Apple wants to convince developers to make games for Mac (which tbh Apple doesn't lmao) then they need to make macOS a lot easier to develop for, provide incentives to do so, and give the developers what they want. Which lets be real, Apple will never do because they want control, and if they don't have a direct financial incentive they're not gonna do it. So Mac will remain the odd one out in terms of desktop gaming, even moreso now with the booming success of Valve's Steam Deck and SteamOS causing the rise of Linux Gaming to the mainstream.

Marvel strike force is a great iOS game , most of the ps5 games you quoted are just ps4 with updated graphics .
