Very similar specs to the macbook pro I just bought, but its Sony which would keep me from buying it. Had a Sony Vaio, and it was a truly horrible product. This was 3 years ago, but it was terrible and Sony was horrible.

Great specs though.

Once again, Sony has no laptop of similar combination of size and power to compete with the Vaio SB except one - the Sony Vaio Z. And the better Vaio SA's specs is still unknown.

Yo! That's SOO OLD!!
Here's the newer one.

I am not sure if this is a reliable source though.

Nope, since its based on an opinion poll basically, the ont I posted is research from a 3rd party warranty company's data from the previous year. So while I'll say that my polls not 100% bullet proof the PC World one is much worse. As people can lie, forget, and be wrong, mostly because they either don't want to admit to a poor purchase or they really want to screw a company.

Got a Vaio once, will never buy anything Vaio again.

Sorry I don't care if they made the mother of all laptops with Intel i11 Octa-core Ultra-thread processor. I simply refuses to buy a Vaio again.

Nice... if only it can run Mac OS. :p
If not for my long time use of Macs, there's a good chance I might not be using one concurrently with my PC today.

Windows 7 is a very fast, stable, feature rich OS. A huge advancement over earlier versions, I enjoy it nearly as much as OS X.

It's a good thing too, since I'm genuinely concerned about the future of OS X now that Apple is folding in iOS in significant ways. Initial indicators point to the possible dumbing down of OS X to ground zero to accommodate those with no computer skills whatsoever.

A move like that would have a negative effect for professional users, by limiting the relative freedom we enjoy now. This as opposed to the locked down nature of iOS as implemented in iPhones & iPads.

As much as I would like to believe this will not happen, other Mac users I've spoken too are left with the same impression. Not a good sign.

Looking back reveals the "old" Apple Computer Inc. with it's slim market share, a niche product. PC's being the overwhelming majority. It's a shame that now that Apple computers are claiming more market share than ever before, Apples on the brink of ruining that.

Err... Okay!? If this is not making crap up with no evidence whatsoever I don't know what is.

If anything the mac os is getting more sophisticated, not dumbed down.

Funny I keep seeing threads with overheating issues! and so hot to touch there up to boiling point! it may dispel more but with increase fan speed as there is little airflow inside the housing! its why most gaming laptops are chunky!

Ya but you have to actually look at those threads. None of those people have issues, they just think they do because of apps like iStat and people not understanding processor operating temperatures.

None of the threads I have ever seen have someones laptop shutting off, which is what would happen if it truly was overheating.

Also consider that Sony has two laptop classes. I believe the premium ones like the Vaio Z are equivalent to Apple's counterparts in terms of reliability. Not a lot of Sony users have its premium laptops. Apple users don't have any other choice as all of its laptops are built like a premium.

Nice specs ans something Apple certainly needs to look into...and definitely a drawback of the 13" MBP.

What you fail to indicate is that the VAIO is twice as much as the 13" MBP...at least the last time I checked...and even if the price is not listed yet just look at historical prices for machines of this caliber from Sony.

The reason why is because for the Vaio Z, SSD drive, which tends to be crazy expensive, is standardized. The Vaio SB with SSD is expected to be a bit cheaper than the Vaio Z with similar SSD size. To be fair, the 13" MBP has to include an SSD. Having said that, I believe the pricing would be more or less similar.

+1 I don't think most of the people on these forums have ever owned a sony. I've owned 2 and supported roughly 2000 of them. Never again would I buy one.

The quality seems good when you first look at them. I bought a Vaio for my wife one time. She closed the lid one night, and it "forgot" to go to sleep. It overheated and never booted again.

I can see why European consumers complain about an Apple tax. At the current exchange rate, a $1200USD MBP costs the equivalent of $1625USD in the UK. This "tax" doesn't seem so high for Windows PCs in Europe. Spec per price comparisons for equivalent quality hardware in North America show parity but this is not so in some markets. What is the mechanism behind this effect?

one thing that annoys me with apple in 2011 they STILL HAVE NO 3G radio built into the macbook pro!

Thank freaking god. That would drive the prices up like crazy and be useless for 99% of people. The only time i cant find a WiFi signal is when im driving my car, oh wait, thats also the one time i cannot use my computer...

Here is a LINK with some "assumptions" on the price of the notebooks in question. I assume the prices are in Euros, if it's in GBPs it makes it even worse. Don't know if VAT is included or not. Still a quite impressive machine and hopefully it will be offered in the States if for nothing else so we know how much it will truly cost = arm + leg.

Funny, I just read an article that said 19% of people surveyed admitted to browsing the internet while driving. Not safe for sure.

I have a Vaio that I use as my PC machine. I like it. Would definitely buy again. I wouldn't pay over $1000 for one though.

Wow surprisingly it's not very well priced compared to a MBP.
For $2000 CAD I could only get top of the line Core i5, 8GB RAM, and high-end graphics...
Wheras with MBP you can get a QUAD-core, just as good graphics, better build quality, etc...

And besides, who wants to buy Sony when they're $*@&ing over all the PS3 entrepreneurs (GeoHot).

Here is your Apple tax, if only Sony could dream of offering this maybe I'd buy one, till then the only VAIO's in my house are the ones my friends bring over for me to FIX cause their warranty keeps pushing them away with their 2 month old laptop.

You DO know that Spain discovered America, do you?

Yeah I'm sure there was no one there before they came, or does it not count if you nearly wipe them out?

You're willing to pay $500 more for a Mag Safe adapter?
