I just laugh at you people who made the wrong choice.

Been playing on my Wii U with or without the TV from the day it came out.

Now if only Nintendo would release some games for it. It's both hilarious and sad that Nintendo seems to be clueless about why the console is doing so poorly - it's been out for four years and still has a severe shortage of good games.

No Metroid or F-Zero. No mainline Zelda or Mario. Kirby, Yoshi, Toad, and Pikmin are all insane let downs that feel like Nintendo rushed them out the door (you had 4 years and 6 teams - what the hell were they doing?)

I think it is you who has made the wrong choice in buying that hunk of junk called the WiiU.
Nintendo isn't going to be releasing a whole lot more for it.... they are dropping it like the plague that it is and coming out with a new console next year to replace it because it's been such a failure!
  • The new Zelda game is probably never coming out on WiiU and will be a ported as a launch title for the new console
  • All 3rd party support has ended for WiiU (not that there was any really there in the first place)
  • A console axed in it's 3rd year isn't a good sign.....
  • Nintendo did rush games out teh door because if they didn't, there would have been nothing to play or buy for the WiiU since 3rd party developers opted out of supporting the system.
Sorry to break it to you, but you bought a stinker and it is going bye byes.

I'm actually really surprised the WiiU hasn't seen steeper price cuts.

Playing on the tiny tablet screen was an interesting concept..... but the tablet-esque controller that was supposed to be the system's selling point was it's killing point in the end. That and a console with hardware barely bumped from the Wii.

It works really well on the Vita and PS TV, totally reasonable latency for most games. I expect 1080p. :)
Actually... every review I have seen regarding remote play of PS4 games on PSTV has been bad... complaining of 1-2 second lag... even on wired connections.

Err, but PSTV is just a vita with no screen and Ethernet, and the vita does it almost lag free (I played through a lot of Bloodborne with it) - I even use my Vita as an extra controller on multiplayer PS4 games and the vita player never complains. - and they're looking at the TV, not the vita screen. (4 player Rayman, which requires a lot of splitsecond timing)

There's no way it has a couple of seconds lag, unless something veeery weird is going on.

I have been wishing for a solution for gaming on my iMac for ages! Kanex Thunderbolt adapters, Elgato capture cards, etc etc. Finally, this could be the solution! Now if only Microsoft will release the same function for OS X, that'd be great! If not, I might just consider swapping my Xbox One for a PS4.

No, I am not interested in installing Windows on my Mac.

That was my line of thinking at one stage and then I did. WOw, opened up so much more to me it was worth it.

So, does this mean the Mac or PC will simply become the display..?
I.e. instead of a PS 4 hooked up to a TV via HDMI, the Mac is a wireless display...?

I don't see the advantages in that.
You're not actually gaming on the Mac using the keyboard and mouse (like the ol' PlayStation emulator for Mac OS 9 did:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Connectix_Virtual_Game_Station)

Or, am I missing something that makes this brilliant..?

Great, if only they had done this while I still had my Thunderbolt Display it would've meant so much.

If it's anything like the PS TV or Vita remote play. The input lag will make this unusable anywhere outside of your own home.

cMP at lest means you’ve got a few good GPU options.
As with most things, the manufacturer has priced the equipment as high as possible so as to make the decision almost revenue neutral.
The cost of a separate PC, (£X.XX), the console, (£400), plus a few expensive games, (£300), probably amounts to the same amount as a nicely tricked out PC. Makes for a crap decision.

Not perfect but a step in the right decision at least. I’m still praying for a PC port of The Last of Us. This step by Sony whilst welcome doesn’t bring that any closer.

EDIT:
Just seen a PS4 for £280 and that includes ‘Uncharted - The Nathan Drake Collection’ what ever that is.

You're praying for a port of The Last of Us but don't know what Uncharted is? Lol.

P.S. Playstation isn't ever giving up The Last of Us exclusivity.

Brilliant, brilliant idea.

Kids hog the TV. You have the Playstation turned on, whirling away. You stream the game and play on your iMac/MacBook, wherever you want, with no framerate issues or performance problems. Hopefully the streaming will be really smooth and support some nice resolutions.

On what planet does streaming actually work, with no frame rate issues or performance problems, and have a quality picture?

This isn't "cross platform"; it's a hack and it's another layer of technical crap to break. Because what software works as advertised? The more complexity you introduce, the more likely there will be problems. Wifi/router incompatibilities, OS revisions, bandwidth, etc.

It's common knowledge that the Vita's remote play performs way better than the PS TV's.

I know what uncharted is, have done for a while. Played the first one and strangely enough couldn’t get into it. What I’m not sure about is the Nathan Drake Collection bit.

Unfortunatley not. The PSTV only allows a max of 720p output from it's HDMI port so definitely not 1080p streaming. I also found this little bit of info on whatisplaystation4.com
For the PS4 remote play functionality to work, Sony implemented a built-in h.264 video encoder to compress images to lower resolutions. This means that the 1080p framebuffer is therefore able to be downscaled to the PS Vita’s native resolution of 960×544. The images are sent over a WiFi connection to the PS Vita which in turn is able to receive the images, decode them, and send back controller input to the PS4.

Eurogamer also did a beautifully detailed review on the PSTV ;)
