OK...I just went over to that Best Buy forum and can see where there was plenty of inconsistency.
While I ended up placing an order on the 15th through Apple.com, I went earlier in the morning to Best Buy to pre-order.
I was #6, and this was noted on the form that was given to me. I was #3 out of the 6 to get the Black 32GB. The salesman was VERY careful to tell me that this did NOT guarantee me a phone...but that there was a GOOD CHANCE based on my number. I was fairly confident that Best Buy would received, IF THEY RECEIVED ANY, enough phones to fulfill my order as #6 (#3).
Maybe my store, and my salesperson, (Culver City-Westfield) was just better and more organized, but I appreciated their honesty. A Best Buy "pre-order" is more akin to reserving one with an Apple Store.
After reading that forum where people swear up and down that they were GUARANTEED phones, I don't know what to think. I know Best Buy can be inconsistent, but this could prove really problematic if they were, in fact, guaranteed phones. I know that I was NOT.
In any event, my cancelling of my "pre-order" or "reservation" will move everybody else one place up the list at my local Best Buy. Hopefully, the store receives at least some.
Good luck to all.
