Can you imagine the innovation required for a mini iPhone with 120 refresh, RAM, cooling, etc. it doesn't fit with Cook's supply chain approach to new products in that the parts couldn't be reused for years afterwards. To be fair, if there was a market other companies would go down this route and haven't.

Apple would probably want to market the smaller screen sizes as the “lower cost” option in their price matrix, and considering the new Samsung Galaxy A16 has a 6.7” inch OLED screen with 90hz and retails for $200 in the United States, the $600 6.1” 60hz iPhone 16e can barely compete for the bottom-dollar mass market consumer.
Apple don’t want to compete for that market, they consider themselves a premiums brand and carefully manage pricing tiers both for profit and to maintain that premium image.

The famous wheels were priced specifically to maintain a premium image, if a few people were crazy enough to buy them (or some companies who didn’t care) that was just gravy.

Wife and I were making some adjustments to our AT&T phone account today. I know the rep was incorrect but he momentarily gave me a ray of hope. He said that Apple would be coming out with a new SE not too far in the future.

I'll hang onto my old SE as I have zero desire for a larger phone. I really only use it as a phone as I have an iPad and Mac mini.

It’s not just the lack of demand, the biggest problem with mini and main reason Apple canned the product line is the battery drain issue that Apple could not fix with current technology. Simply put the 5G modems Qualcomm provides just uses too much power on mini. Apple tried fixing it but ultimately threw in the towel.

They might revisit the idea of mini phone once they get the power optimization done right with C series modem but by then, Apple might not bother to go further because everyone moved on from mini form factor phone.
I imagine it has as much or more to do with eliminating a screen size for developers to target.

Don't think a small phone will ever be released by Apple. The current screen sizes will more or less remain the same. The only change I am expecting to see in the lineup will be the foldable iPhones. Other than that expecting the dimensions to remain the same.

So you consider Ted Lasso & Severance to be flops? Ok 🤣
I'm considering a service which loses one billion dollar per year despite content like Ted Lasso and Severance a flop.

A flop for something that was never announced or stated by Apple as being made?
A flop which was an open secret that Apple was working on and on which they burned money amounting to the GDP of a small country while coming up with nothing.

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman today shared bad news for fans of the iPhone mini.

Purple-iPhone-12-Mini.jpg

In a live-streamed Q&A session today, Gurman said that Apple currently has no plans to reintroduce a smaller iPhone model.

Apple discontinued the iPhone 13 mini in September 2023, and it has not offered a mini model since then. Apple is not expected to release an iPhone 17 mini this year, and Gurman's revelation likely rules out an iPhone 18 mini next year too, given Apple's multi-year planning and development cycle for future iPhone models.

Since it discontinued the third-generation iPhone SE last month, Apple no longer offers any new iPhone models with under a 6-inch screen size. All of the iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 models that Apple currently sells have between 6.1-inch and 6.9-inch displays, whereas the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 13 mini had 5.4-inch displays. The final iPhone SE had a 4.7-inch display, albeit with thicker bezels that increased the device's overall size.

While there is a vocal group of customers who wish that Apple would bring back the iPhone mini, the smaller model simply never sold well enough for the company to continue offering it, according to market research firms. It is not much of a surprise that Apple is not currently reconsidering this decision, but it helps to set expectations for those who may still be holding out hope. Do not expect another iPhone mini any time soon.

The full Q&A audio stream can be replayed on Bloomberg's website.

Never understood the desire for such a small phone.

Give us a new mini for 2x the cost of the original mini, save the money on the inside screen, and I’m still a buyer

Apple got burned on the minis before, they won’t do it again, for both technical (not enough physical space) and financial reasons (not selling well enough).

I don't care if you call it "Mini" or not, provided you release an iPhone smaller than 6inch. I'm not replacing my iPhone 12 Mini for anything larger than 6inch (in fact I was going to buy the new 16e but after seeing it was large, I decided to keep the 12 Mini and spend the money in improving the order of my new Mac Studio). I can wait a few years, my 12 Mini is still running great.

I had a cunning plan to buy an SE3 at a knock-down price as soon as the "SE4" was released. Truth is I cant find any SE3 for love or money. Sold out everywhere. Who said they were unpopular?

I would really like to know how well the 14, 15 and 16 Plus models sold compared to the 12,13 minis. From the real life experience, I see more minis on the streets of Paris than I see the Plus. But that's just me.

It's sad to see that Apple is going in the bigger screen direction, especially considering that 17 model will start at 6,3 inches, which is entirely gigantic for many.

It's not the height of the phone that makes it extremely uncomfortable to use, but its width. It's cumbersome and very drop-prone, especially when you are not leading a sedentary lifestyle. I have a full catalog of screens at my disposal, and I use them accordingly. iPhone is not the screen I need to use that requires it to be big.

Oh well, we will see. Maybe they will at least downsize a little. 6,3 to me means I will keep the mini for as long as I can and just swap the battery out for a new one once it needs replacements. And I can definitely get a Pro model, I just don't need nor want a large phone.

Seems like the Plus model is still the least popular model, but it outperforms the Mini easily. Given that they'll replace the Plus with the Air (rumoured) they seemingly don't mind having a fourth niche model. Not counting SE/e.

Thanks for the link! Interesting. Oh well, I guess time will tell what the mini users will have to adapt to. The choices today are bleak to say the least.
