I just got the Macally Mic. I have tested it out with Fring and Sipphone apps. It does work, sort of. The problem with fring is you can't hear what the other person is saying because the speaker does not come on. In sipphone it kinda works. Sometimes you can get the speaker to work but sometimes it makes you sound like a serial killer.

I also have the sennheiser MM50's. They work pretty well. Not sure if anyone else has this problem but sometimes when I use it everything I hear gets distorted. Still trying to figure out what causes it.

You have a 1G on OS2.2?

Hey Stationmaster,

Thanks so much. The Incipio Lloyd mic has just arrived. I am not so keen about trimming it. I will download the apps. and let you know.
(I'm 71 but don't tell anybody).

Thank you again,

OK, well I connected the incipio mic, downloaded iTalk and have it in iTunes and on my iPod Touch 2G. Downloaded iTalkSymc. HOWEVER this does not work because I believe that you need a WiFi network for this to work. Yikes.

Recording on an iPod Touch 2G

i do not have WiFi at home and do not see a need for it other than to make iSync work with my new incipio mic. Is there another program that will work with this mic? I am on an iMac and do not want to buy an ugly router and do not want to spend the money for Airport.

Yikes.

If you go into system preferences, sharing, and then the Internet tab you can create a wireless network just using your built in airport card. It seems a little slower than using a router but it does work. This is what I have been doing since my router broke. For what your trying to do this should work fine.

@Doggie2 ..... and all others that may be interested. While this thread is mostly about finding and using a microphone for the Touch, it is interesting to learn of the various means to "export" the audio file(s) to our desktop/laptop computers. WiFi, along with the wheel, has got to be one of the greatest inventions in the world. While many may think they do not "need" a router for just one use, you might like to explore the many other uses for such a device. For example, Apple has the Time Capsule .....

Quite good looking, IMHO and it not only provides WiFi but also a HD for backup. You do back up your data, don't you? Additionally, with WiFi guests and family can bring their computers and have internet access whenever they wish ...... and they are not bothering MY computer!

Basically, I would not be without one .... and you might enjoy it also.

Apple TV is also great ..... but that must be topic for another forum.

One last note for survival ....... remember, in some tangible manner, all your special loved ones on 2/14. A voice of experience!

so as not to lose the "finish line" as I perceive it

I just read this whole thread, thankful for all the legwork many of you have done to bring it this far. I just read about the Incipio Lloyd this morning and then found this forum thread.

It seems that many are wondering if the iPod Touch 2g can be an iPhone replacement (without the $25/month charge)...based on a few factors.

1. The Lloyd works for recording your voice.
2. Skype or another SIP application can get your voice out to the internet and can get the voice of the person you are conversing with back to your headphones or the built-in speaker, and
3. You have access to a wireless internet connection.

The question everyone seems to be asking is: Can someone verify #2 and post their experience.

My purchase of a 2g iPod touch hangs on this question. Thanks to any and all who can verify this.

I recently bought a 2nd gen ipod touch 8GB and am still getting to know it; I was wondering if any microphone+earphones stereo headset with a 3.5 mm jack will work with the touch for VOIP? If that's the case, I can buy a headset for my Nokia phone and use the same one for my ipod instead of carrying two sets of cables with me. :)

Hey Guys,

I now have the Macally and Incipio mics. I have a explained the Macally a few posts back. As for the Incipio its not working at all. I have a gen2 ipod touch with 2.2.1 firmware. Tips anyone?

I highly recommend the app sipphone and using www.callwithus.com. That's what I have. I have my own number and voicemail.

Dang, too bad about the incipio.

sipphone sure sounds interesting. My feeling is that we will shortly see a string of voip apps. Maybe iCall is next...
Unfortunetaly, callwithus has stopped issuing DID # so no more incoming calls.

Zap, can you tell us a bit more how your set-up is working with them?

Really? That sucks about the DID number, I guess I got lucky then. Well, it costs me about 8 bucks a month for the whole deal with voicemail. It's a sip provider. It works in fring and now sipphone. I'm loving sipphone app because it works more like a real phone. Bascially as long as you have the app open and are in wifi you can receive calls. I went with callwithus because they have voicemail and since I mainly use my ipod for work, if I wasn't in wifi area I wanted them to be able to leave me a message. What I love is i get a wav file of the message emailed to me. But I can also check my messages from a regular landline. Plus now with sipphone I can check them there. I couldn't do that with fring. I hope this answers your question.

I did get the inpicio mic to work. But the Macally and the Inpicio don't really work that well for this type of stuff and I don't recomment them. But they are great for recording apps. So if anyone is interested I will sell either of them.

So what was the problem with the incipio?
Which mic works better with sipphone?
txs,

txs,

I said neither work well. When they are plunged it and someone phones it makes a terrible ear piercing sound. And only sometimes does the external speaker work. Plus they don't sound that great. I'm sticking with my sennheiser MM50 headphones.

Hi Zapbranagan, I know this is off-topic, but I'm curious to know where you bought your MM50's. I'm in the market to replace my iPhone 3G's headset and have seen tons of the Sennheiser's on eBay and was just curious to know where you got yours from. TIA!

I've been using the Incipio, trimmed to fit the iPod touch, for a month now and I absolutely love it. But someone upstream mentioned the company was working on a mic specifically for the iPod touch. Is this true? Anyone know how to contact them?

Try (support@incipiotech.com)

I don't know if a "new" microphone is in the works, but could be.

BTW: mine is working fine, stays attached, and records well.
