And yet Southwest is a member of MCX

That part is what is really perplexing (does anyone even buy tickets at the airport anymore?) and what most sucks about them right now. They also make me wonder if my blanket boycott of all MCX members is perhaps too harsh.

That's cool and all, I'll never use it.....but c'mon, when are you gonna start offering free inflight wifi? Only a matter of time I hope...

Sort of ...

But it's all about the delivery mechanism and the selection, in this case.

Sure, you could always "listen to music" during a flight. But you probably got stuck listening to a few stations they provided, with a pair of earbuds you plugged into the armrest of your seat. Or alternately, you brought along your own player and headset and listened to whatever you were able to bring with you.

I assume now, they're saying you have access to the full Beats music catalog to listen to while on the flight -- which is a nice extra.

I think it's funny how fragmented music is. "You can listen to Beats Music during your flight!" which is the same as saying, "You can listen to music!" It's not entirely spectacular. There isn't a special grade of music offered; it's not like getting in-flight pretzels when you're starving. XD
However, it is cool that they're branching out into something other than movies and tv shows.

And yet Southwest is a member of MCX, so what you'll be able to use CurrentC to pay for an Apple service?

Why in the world would an airline be a part of MCX?! As far as I know, MCX only applies to transactions where the customer is present to have the QR code scanned. Who in the world buys tickets at the ticket counter unless they're paying in cash?! Which, coincidentally, is also a handy way to get "SSSS" printed on your boarding pass so the TSA can have a little extra "fun" with you.

Edit: Lightbulb moment -- they're not targeting CurrentC at ticket purchases but rather for in-flight purchases like food, booze, and Wi-Fi. Got it.

Just refuse to purchase the $5 alcoholic beverages and $8 wi-fi. That's what I'll do (of course, I fly them so much I have more drink coupons than I know what to do with, and I get wi-fi for free).

After flying a United regional jet from STL-IAD (sorry United, but there's nothing "regional" about flying halfway across the country), I'd take a Southwest 737 any day of the week.

I'd take a SW 737 over any other US domestic airline.

----------

I fly Southwest everywhere I can, cheap, bags fly free, and the staff is much nicer then any of the workers from other airlines (cough United).

Now if you always fly first class I get it, but for the average person Southwest is great.

First class on most domestic flights is no better than SWA. For all of the reasons you just mentioned. The only perk FC seems to have these days is free booze.

----------

Not enough to entice me to fly on their dirty grungy late sky bus.

You obviously know nothing about SWA. Or any of the other domestics, for that matter...

Ha. "FU NFL. We got branded planes!"

Flying it once is enough to say "no". Screw them & their "democratic boarding process". I'll pay the extra $100 and get away from the chum.

You do realize, don't you that for $12.50 you can be one of the first people to board the plane, and have pretty much your pick of seats?

Or is your problem with having to deal with the "unwashed masses?"

It's a big building, full of sick people. But that's not important right now.

Oh those poor, poor aircraft...

Weird. Apple has an agreement with United Air Lines to be the primary provider of air travel to Apple.

Where'd you get that info? Are we talking about Apple employees? Because they can use any airline. There are preferred airlines, of which United is one (of a few). But if the price is right, you'll find them flying on a wide variety of airlines, including Southwest.

Yeah for sure.

Not bad to be honest, but I certainly wouldn't book a Southwest flight over, say, US Airways due to a certain flight including Beats music. Plus, I have Spotify, so it's a moot point. I'll continue using American/US Airways for mileage purposes.

Yeah. They're the only carrier that flies direct to SJC from here (otherwise I'd have to fly via LAX or fly Virgin or United to SFO). Other than SJC I usually fly other carriers.

Maybe people may not want to get off now ..

There is too much in-flight entertainment on-board.

Like.... the radio! Do you refuse to listen to the radio because you don't like being told what to listen to?

I listen to the radio. But I suspect you meant something else: I don't listen to music on the radio. I listen to talk shows and news and weather forecasts and whatnot.

You know what's awesome? Paying that fee (which was $40 last I cared), then getting on and realizing you're on a second leg of the flight, and it's already full of the unwashed masses.

It's not $40. And it's been decades since I was on a SWA flight that had anyone on the plane when we started boarding.

But you keep on paying <insert whatever name here> Airlines for their filthy, rickety planes, bad attitudes, and a level of service they claim to provide, but do not. Frankly, they never did. I'll keep the extra cash in my pocket, fly on nice, clean planes with employees who don't patronize me, and treat me like a human being.

FWIW, Delta isn't so bad these days and they're the worst offenders in the "old planes" department. Heck, they were still flying DC-9s until recently.

Why did i picture the airplane bouncing up and down on hydraulics when i read this article?

That's Soul Plane. But the airline in that flick was called NWA. Also the name of Dre's breakthough rap band. Hmmm...
