I was getting ready to purchase one and I was wondering if it scratches as easily as the silver model? I would be wearing it at work and like the subtle color. Thank you.

Had mine for around 2 weeks. Put full-body protection kit on it, because I was worried about it scratching, not only from normal wearing, but from cases being on it (Heard cases scratch the regular SS model and the Space Gray Sport). It messed with the look, so I took them off.

A week and a half later, I've had different cases on it, multiple times, and I've had it rub up against a key and a table. No scratches on this beauty.

Don't know what I'd have to do to bang this thing up.

I was going to order spigen rugged case just to have on hand. That's good info. I just purchased the watch and can't wait to get it. After seeing how many people were developing many "micro" scratches, I didn't want to bother polishing every few weeks. Thanks.

I was actually about to order that same one when I was told about the scratching issue for the first time. Spent more and ended up getting a Lunatik Epik. Wouldn't fit in there with the screen and body protectors. Took them off, and didn't scratch at all.

If I had known this watch was this hard to scratch, I would've just gotten the rugged case and been fine (Only because I'm extra careful and this watch goes to the gym with me).

The DLC should make it harder to scratch.

But, in the end, it's a watch. You will eventually bump into something and it will get scratches if it happens enough times. My Tissot automatic has some bumps and scuffs and scratches but the crystal is still unmarked and it still looks great.

To quote myself from another SBSS thread:

I've had my SBSS watch and link bracelet since May, and it's pretty much perfect.

I thought I'd gotten a big terrible scratch across the clasp a few months ago when an aluminum ladder I was carrying slipped and scraped against my band, but amazingly it was the ladder that was scratched! The mark on my band wiped away totally.

Not a mark to be found anywhere on this watch, 8 months in!

I've had mine since Black Friday, just looked at it through a loupe and not a mark, nick, scratch, or dent. This is such a great piece.

This is great info. I love getting real world reviews from people who use their gear. Thank you

I've had mine since early November and it looks like new. The sports band has stretched out a tad which is ok. Not enough to wear it tighter. The band also appears to be in great shape as well. I am a mailman so I work outside. I wear it on my left wrist. The down part is that it is winter and haven't had many days of wearing short sleeves to expose it more.

I ordered the spigen tough armor and matching wrist band for it yesterday for when I'm at work.

My silver stainless link band has quite a patina of micro-scratches all over. Doesn't look bad, just well-worn. I'd be surprised if the black can hold up as well without showing the silver underneath, but then again I wear it 18 hrs a day, every day.

I don't get the point to buy a fashion accessory and to put it into a case.... from your viewpoint.... what should do people with 20k watches? Anyway stainless steel watches are intended to be scratched.....

My viewpoint is why do people buy $800 iPhones and put them in a case. Usually people who buy 20k watches have money to replace them. Thanks for the constructive comment.

A phone can slip from your hands while using. A watch has a strap that prevents it from falling.... :)

If you're putting a rugged case on it for protection, it's probably not being used as a fashion accessory at the time. I put a protective case on mine when I workout. The weight room is a maze, and I'm trying to avoid bumping it into anything.

All I wanted to know is if it scratches as easily as the silver version. That's all. Scratches down to the expose the silver beneath isn't as attractive as scratches on the non black version.

I have the watch now and when I'm not at work or gym I wear it with nothing on it. Same reasons I choose to protect it, depends on what I'm doing.

Yes it does scratch as easy. My friend has SB SS and the silver is showing through the black - even though he said he never bumped it hard against anything.

That's the first I heard of that, and I'm not reading a lot of that happening in the forums. The finish on these chemically hardens it for a stronger finish than Stainless Steel exposed. Is he sure it's not chipped? I would bring it to the Apple Store, may be a defective finish.

Now that you mention it, I've never seen that be an issue with the small amount of articles and videos that exist about this color watch.

It doesn't scratch like the regular SS does...just do a search and see. Far more people talking about regular SS scratches. Only seen like 3 guys talk about scratching the Space Black SS body....

Diamond like carbon, like the sapphire screen, is harder than most things but not completely unscratchable (there are harder things out there). Perhaps he caught it on a diamond ring or something?
