To me, gold looks garish, and space gray looks too much like a generic Windows laptop. Silver looks like the last few years of MacBooks, but that's fine with me.

I do miss the lighted logo on the rear of the screen, but that's a small issue.

In daily life, yellow and gold are my favorite colors, so I knew I had to have the gold version. I chose the space gray/black iPhone and the silver/white iPad for functional reasons, but for pure aesthetics, I ordered a gold MacBook.

Honestly, it's not as garish as you might think. It's more like a "warm silver" than it is like "gold jewelry." I would not be embarrassed to pull out my gold MacBook in a business meeting. Then again, I work in investments, and I also don't care what people think :)

Headed in to the Apple Store Lincoln Park to pick up an accessory and wandered over to the MacBook Display Table. Will definitely go with the Silver color. Like the previous posts stated, it is personal preference and I thought that I liked the Space Gray and still do to a point but not enough to buy. The classic MacBook silver is what sets the Macs from the PCs in my mind but welcome the change for people who like choices.

Well i know gold is a masculine metal. What i meant was the "GOLD MBR" looks closer to champagne than a pure gold color. At least from what i seen in the Apple store. Granted they have weird lighting. When i say gold i am speaking of like the color you see on a 14k gold necklace or bracelet, or a gold unmelted bar. The MBR i thought has a much softer tone, more like a champagne. Thats all.

Have any of you gotten married in the USA in last 15 years? Neither men nor woman are going with gold. Its white gold or platinum. Now China, they will take their Cheerios in Gold!! My wifes "Gold" rMB outdoors (no influence from indoor lighting) has a distinct Rose / Champagne hint to it. This is exactly why my wife had to have the thing. She is a Jeweler and apparently Rose Gold is making a comeback in the USA. If you're a man dropping $1300++ on a computer you should feel comfy with anything you want. They're are toys!! However, I will be using mine on the road extensively around the country in meetings with clients etc. Whipping out a gold computer is not something I want to be doing. For one it shouts that I'm dumb enough to spend $1,700 on a freakin' netbook! (hold the flames, I know some of you expect these things to be your only puter) Own it people, we are adult chatting about lil puters like kids! LOL :cool:

PS - Where the heck did Apple order those 1.3Ghz chips from anyway - three more weeks!

I, as well as many of my friends, have gotten married in the US (California, NYC, Chicago) in the past 5 years and I don't particularly see that gold isn't represented. I actually think it's more popular now than it was 10 years ago. I think it also depends on who the people you know are. I feel that people of color find gold to be more popular than people of European descent, who end up choosing white gold or platinum.

After considering for many weeks I order the Silver. As I find the space grey kinda dark...

Silver looks very refreshing and the keyboard/screen seems to stand out more.

Space grey looks dull to me...

Then again you guys might disagree with me, but I feel that space grey is just a trend for now and you might get board of the color very fast. Silver seems to be more lasting

I picked up Gold for the same reasons I went with Gold for my iPhone and iPad.

I wanted a change-up. The Space Gray on my iPhone 6 Plus (before I sold it in exchange for an iPhone 6) looked too close to Silver to me. It wasn't dark enough, or black enough, for my tastes. In most lighting situations, it looked like a Silver iPhone.

When selecting my iPhone 6, something about the Gold model really stood out to me. It wasn't just different, but more eye-catching, so I went for it. When it came to getting my iPad Air 2, I almost didn't even think about it. I went for the Gold to match. If there's one thing I could change about the Gold iOS devices, it would be changing the NFC/antennas and bezels to a black color instead of a white. I think the screens would also look and pop better with black bezels. Not a deal breaker though, I sometimes like the white, as it gives it more of that Apple-ey feel to them.

When selecting my new MacBook, I did have a small internal debate. Gold vs. Space Gray. I liked the Space Gray, it felt darker than the same color on the new iPhones, but I just had to go with Gold. I think the new Gold MacBook just demands attention. It's a computer that really stands out at a workstation, cafe, and especially in a classroom.

I know everyone wants a distinctive look with the rMB being the first Mac Laptop available in colors but I finally stopped at the Apple store near me to have a look at SG. I ordered a 1.3Ghz version in Space Gray that I won't receive until May 15th. Now that I've seen it in person I think it bears a strong resemblance to any generic plastic windows laptop. The old standby Silver looks good as ever! The gold is too feminine and a little garish for my taste - Plus my wife has one! Anyone else think Silver is the better choice?

On another note - I know where Apple is headed as a company - Fashion and those big fat jewelry profits! My local Apple store is big and yet 50% of the store is now devoted to watches!
the darker the machine the more things it's going to show like finger prints/scratches etc. i had a space gray for a little bit. it looked like a dirty laptop after just messing with it for a day. I feel like i'd have to clean it all the time. Never really had that issue with the silver mbp or mba

That is true. The darker color shows the dirt&oils more. But to me it's worth it. The darker color is sexy as hell.

You might want to brush up on your facts because that statement is false. There was a black MacBook.

Silver one looks the best (classic, max. contrast with the black keys), SG looks to me like an average windows notebook and the Gold you will get boored after a while. Also the Silver one is more forgiving regarding the visibility of scratches which you are bound to get even if you take extreme good care of your new rMB.

I'm owned most Apple laptops since the PowerBook 100. I don't get scratches on mine. I don't know why people say the SG looks like a windows laptop. I've never seen a windows laptop that looks as classy as the SG. Personally, I think the SG is much classier than the silver, anyone with found memories of the old PowerBook G4 Titanium is probably going to like the SG.

I've gone for silver too. It's my first Mac laptop and 2nd Mac (2012 Mac Mini).

I picked silver on launch day as the existing macs look good in silver and i wanted something that felt like a Mac. To me the space grey made it feel more iPad like. It now seems the SG isn't the exact same colour as the iPads, which would have been even more annoying.

I saw them for the first time today and I'm happy I picked silver. Roll on UK availability.

I think some are saying, and I personally agree, that the color shade looks similar to a windows laptop not the form, which is admittedly sleek even in SG. I also think that the darker space gray color appears less metallic to me and closer to plastic on the spectrum. Fwiw

At first glance the Space Gray looks like another Windows ultrabook or Chromebook. If you stare at it longer it looks like a MB however. I was so indecisive over these two color choices that I purchased both, had them both side by side for several days as I played with them, then ended up returning the SG. SG is a nice refreshing change of color to the traditional silver (which I believe is one reason its so popular), but I knew I'd get tired of it and regret it after a while if I stayed with that color. Silver makes the rMB look much more impressive to me and makes it look more like a Mac.

Throughout history, gold has always been a masculine color.. Gold is the most rare and precious metal, also considered the metal of the Gods and worshiped because it's color matched the sun. Silver has always been viewed as feminine as its the color of the moon and the moon has always been seen as having feminine qualities. Even in modern times, when someone wants to make a bold statement with something, they do it in gold, not silver or grey. No idea how some people think gold is a feminine color.

Silver is so boring

I have a gold iPhone and will buy a gold iPad, but if I were to buy a rMB it would be Space Gray.

Color and preference are relative, personally there is just something about the Space Gray color that doesn't feel right, not that there is anything wrong with the color, and based on the high percentage of buyer's who chose it compared to the other available choices, indicates its popularity.
Exchanging mine for traditional Silver, also moving up from 1.2 to 1.3GHz.

I love my space gray MacBook, but after a few days of use it's showing a lot of fingerprints. That's the only drawback I've seen. Haven't noticed it scratching easily.
