I've decided to post because after searching I couldn't find any threads about it.

So, I purchased a Satechi hub after the crappy one I bought previously decided to stop working as a hub. I got the space grey version as my mbp is a space grey.

The hub is the same colour as my space grey iPhone 6+, but it is decidedly different from my mbp. I've attached a screenshot showing the difference.

Has anyone else noticed their space grey mbp is a different colour to their other space grey devices?

Oh, BTW - entry spec 2017 mbp non-touchbar.

I don't have any other grey devices, but my 2018 15" MBP is... grey. very grey, unambiguously not-gold grey :)

Maybe it's just a little bit of dirt changing the hue? Although that's probably just me talking out of me rear.

EVERY Apple space gray device is a different shade of gray :) Seriously, space gray is like a gazillion variants, depending on the type of the device :)

I don't mean variations between the same type of device (i.e. between two MBPs), I mean that different types of devices (i.e. iPhone and MacBook) have slight variations.

Yep, I'd previously considered that Apple had changed the space grey "spec" between my phone and MBP. Oh well. It is what it is, I just thought I might have been "lucky" and scored a different space grey.

Hmmm, seems to be that the mbp has a different reflection index(?) to the hub. For now it is dark and I'm under artificial light - and at a different angle - the colours are very similar.

Anyway, for a while I thought my mbp was special. Oh well.

Remember, nothing has colour. The colours you see are how light is absorbed and reflected by matter. It’s extremely difficult to make metal materials look a consistent colour. Even a tiny difference in alloys or impurity will cause light to reflect a little differently.

Yes also companies do refine or change the palette either seasonally or annually.
