Okay, I was able to duplicate this at the local AT&T store last night on the stores three 16GB iPhones. Last week at the Apple store, "it was the first time anyone heard of it"...but last night, the AT&T rep...himself an iPhone user, said "oh yeah...mine has always done that."
Appreciate any other feedback on this.

I'm glad I found this thread! I have an iPhone 4 and 3GS. And I too, got the weird chirping sound while my phone was charging/syncing and playing music. Thought my 3GS speaker was blown because of the distortion, but I guess it's a common problem amongst 3GS'. Almost took it in to a local repair shop to have my speaker replace, so again, I'm glad i found this post... Saved me a lil cash!:D
