I bought a pair of Klipsch RB-51s and drive them with a Topping TP-21 class T amplifier. 25W per channel is more than enough for my home office.

Out of the box, the sound was very flat. A quick tweak of the itunes eq and they sound fantastic from jazz to metal.

What's wrong with "flat"? Perfect sound from a speaker is a combination of essentially flat speaker response and extremely low distortion. If you're tweaking the frequency response curve, then you're altering the sound.

Maybe he's trying to EQ to compensate for a lack of dynamics either in the songs or from his speakers/amp?

Or maybe he just likes a bit more bass to his music.

I really don't see a thread about speakers for the iMac. I know that the iMac has their own built in speakers, but I'm a person that likes external speakers. So I was wondering if you have external speakers? Or do you use the speakers that is already in your iMac? And what type of speakers should I get?

Thanks in advance! :]

This is what i bought when i bought my iMac
http://store.apple.com/us/product/H2268VC/A?fnode=MTY1NDA0MA

It is 2+1 system
2satelite + Subwoofer and sound quality that this sound system provide is really good.
Plus the price is not so high...

I use HiVi Swan M50W for my iMac.. to my ear it's great for a multimedia speaker. SQ is close to separated system, not quite there yet .. but nonetheless great. Build quality is excellent, nice thick MDF with glossy surface on top, no plastic crap BS. Plus you get a pair of gloves in box just to handle those speakers. Neat, huh? :D .. Just like Steve thoughts about packaging.

And yeah, HiVi is a Chinese brand, but it's nowhere near cheapo knockoff. They build super expensive quality speakers too. So check that out if you want.

This new product from Xtrememac is sitting in my trunk as I type. Will set it up as soon as I get home.

Companies need to produce better quality USB powered speakers.

How else do we maintain that clean Apple look?

any good?

Dangit, scrambling for a couple extension cables. Will try and report after I get back from Radio Shack.

The styling really matches the iMac. The length is shorter than I thought, but in a good way. Almost exactly 21.5" long. This matches the smaller iMac, but I'm not sure why...the 21.5" is a diagonal measurement. Anyway, I have the 27" model, and it looks better with a little space at both ends.

OK, got 'er all cabled up, and I am pleased at all levels. The sound is good. The crossover network is spot on, for a liquid sound through the bandwidth ladder (in fact, wonder if it is some kind of dynamic digitally-controlled crossover?). The passive radiator augmented low-end makes for strain-free bass output, rivalling other soundbars touting an internal subwoofer. Speaking of subwoofer, I do have a small sub driven off the Tango's thoughtful sub-out port (it is positioned underneath my desk).

It easily lives up to its claim of being twice as powerful as other USB speaker systems at 10 watts vs. the usual 5. At full power I can only barely hear any amplifier clipping. Note that twice as powerful does not mean twice as loud, so if you're looking for ear-splitting you'd still need a more expensive multi-media system, which probably wouldn't fit under the iMac any more.

Compared with the internal iMac speakers, the Tango bar seems to sprinkle a bit more power at the lower end, facilitating a flatter frequency response for a warmer, more musical sound (and noting that the stock speakers in an iMac are not at all bad).

For me, it was $100 well-spent.

I'm not really a fan of Soundbar system .. but your setup is .. well .. nice and tempting :D

Neat setup you got there, what subwoofer do you use for it?

I have M-Audio BX5a's and AV40's. They are both awesome, but I'm not using either with my iMac because of desk-space and WAF (Wife Approval Factor) concerns in our home office - she doesn't want a big pair of speakers sitting on the desk. So, when I want to really listen to music, I put on my Logitech G35 headphones. They sound great.

It's just a cheap, small sub I got off ebay. Something like a 4" driver. I only wanted a little extra on the low end. It's plenty for a computer/iPod system.

I have a real M&K sub in the living room, but it would be a bit much for a computer rig.

M-Audio

I'm currently running M-Audio BX5 D2's through an Apogee Duet 2 on my iMac. The BX5's blow away the (twice as expensive) 5.1 Klipsch setup I was using on my PC before.

Did a little more rearranging. Noticed that my mini-sub would fit inside the little tuck inside the computer stand, especially with a side-port firing straight back at me. Also using a cheap laptop soundbar as a super-tweeter (it's supposedly a full-range speaker, but in reality is so small and cheap that all it does is spit out high tweets). I can play with the vertical balance using inline headphone volume controls. Great vertical imaging with this setup!

Just got my iMac tonight so I'm still using these cheap logitech speakers hooked up to my old alter lansing gaming sub. Sounds good enough right now but this thread makes me wanna step it up in the sound department
