I would say that Bose speakers are as far from monitor grade as
you can get. Monitors are meant to be fairly flat in frequency
response. Bose speakers are very very colored, especially
towards the bass frequencies.
Bose bashing is pretty common on-line. I suppose they ask
for it tho. I mean because of the prices and such. But the
Bose 901 studio monitors will allow you to get pretty flat:

This shows the wide range of response curves available thru
the equalization contours available from the speaker's active
equalizer. They do like to be set up correctly in the booth or
room and they do like a decent amp/pre-amp that can further
assist in boosting or flattening their response curve tho. So of
course don't expect to connect these to a $300 Sony mini-compo
and have them sound right.
I picked these cuz you can get them currently for around $400.
But these days it's not so important. You can use software to
scan the actual FRC you're getting in the booth/room at any
particular setting or at any particular point in the room and
adjust to get it absolutely flat if that's your goal.
