Honestly if money isnt too tight get the Klipsch pro media 2.1, little more expensive, but you get what you pay for with these puppies. I just got mine from Amazon for $106 plus shipping and i couldn't be happier. Great sound and the subwoofer really delivers. Highly recommended!

I just took a quick look at eBay, and was amazed at the number of these speakers for sale as "returns". By the time you factor in shipping, it's probably cheaper (or the same) to buy them from someone like Amazon or Buy.com who won't charge you shipping...

Too bad they don't make them in white. I would buy a set for my 20" iMac in a heartbeat.

That's what tape and Acrylic spray paint are for ;)

Really though i contemplated these for a while, and I got so fed up with mediocre sound i caved. This 2.1 setup is louder than the 600watt 5.1 sitting outside in my living room (not mine).

Defiantly think about it.

Cheers

Even though there is all the Bose hating in this group, I have the Bose Companion II speaker setup and I really like it. Many get togethers have been fueled by them and I have received a few compliments on them. But I suppose that's all I can say, because anything else will instigate serious ridicule from the audiophiles on this board, haha.

Best idea is go to a store (like best buy) and listen to their setups and see which one fits your taste. That's what I did...

Bose = err no (se) :p

Enough poetry! To be fair, your set will probably sound magnificent next to the cheaper ones I'll eventually settle on! The sound sticks and klipisch look awesome... but the former - Ow!!

Macbook today :)

I dunno, listening to some people on this board it seems I might be better off using the stock Macbook speakers .

But really though, no matter what anyone says, it's all about how it sounds to you. If you like the way it sounds, who cares what you get, right? :)

These look good. I've seen them in real life and they sure are nice. They get good reviews on Amazon as well.

Might be a bit pricey though :(

I've been looking around as I'll probably do the same when I'm off to Uni. There's no point having an extra CD player when my Mac can do it all :D

I'm no audiophile, and I would agree - it's all in what you like. I guess my point was more along the lines of being careful and not getting sucked in by the marketing hype.

I used to be of the impression that Bose was the be all to end all when it came to speakers until I started doing some comparison testing on my own (I'm talking about home theater stuff, not multimedia speakers.) I like their "brightness" but didn't like the lack of low end. When I did my due diligence and started researching things, I discovered that audiophile or not, there were (are) some things that Bose does to sway buyers to their products, that's all.

I'm looking at some of the JBLs in the Harmon-Kardon factory store over at eBay. The price is right and JBLs are good speakers....

I don't know about UK eBay, but as I just mentioned in a previous post, the Harmon-Kardon factory store on eBay is selling these refurbished for very little $USD. It might be worth checking to see if they'll ship internationally - you might come out ahead even with the shipping costs.
