Im running the Icarbons and Speck Clear case on mine ,and have noticed absolutely no increase in temperature when using it.

The exhaust vents are not covered by the case, so that would not be an issue.
I understand the aluminum acts as a heat sink as well, and with it being covered, it may reduce the ability to dissipate heat, but I honestly have not noticed any difference.

Birdmagnus, yeah the case fits perfectly over the Icarbons, looks amazing. I will take a pic and post so you can see, makes the carbon fiber look glossy, but over time it will start to look like crap I would imagine since the clear case scratches so easily =(, but for now it looks awesome and provides adequate protection for my precious retina.

PS - the speck case has little rubber offsets that keep the case off the aluminum, so it wont scratch the finish. Its only on the top cover though.

Ok that is hideous. And your comment about owners having stickers means they treated it like crap is purely speculation and non factual. You cannot provide any data or stats about owners with stickers treat ther mbp like crap.

Although I do admit, that is hideous.

Haha you should read the post you quoted again. The person was talking about who ever owned that particular computer, not computers with stickers in general.

I ordered a stain black yesterday. Came in today. Feels more flimsy compared to my clear one i had on my 2011 mbp.

That's because it's actually two different products... The SmartShell for the rMBP is a brand new case that is designed to be thinner & lighter (Previously seen on the iPad). The case available for the cMBP is called the SeeThru and is a bit thicker. Speck has stated they plan on bringing the SmartShell line to the cMBP as well.

If it's any use..... I have a black satin speck case for my uMBP 2011.... If think it's starting to get too warm, I just remove the bottom protector and fire up smc fan control on full for a couple of mins and the temp drops to around 30-32 celsius.

It all depends what you are doing. Whilst at work I do have the bottom off as I am running VMWare and Parallels now.

Otherwise speck is probably one of the better (i won't say best.. that would make me biased ;) )protective hard cases out there

It also amazes me how many people on here only care about the resale value of their phone/computer and not, you know, actually using their device.

Pics of icarbons with speck shell as promised.

I returned my black satan and Speck replaced it with a regular clear one. Thinking about getting the icarbon skin now.

Idk, I buy and sell macs for a living, and the ones covered in stickers I have bought were 100% of the time in worse condition than the ones not covered in stickers lol... A side note: 75% of them I have bought with stickers were from people who lived in boulder lol.

The majority of the stickers left residue that had to be removed with rubbing alcohol.

Do you use a speck case still? If so how's it going for you? Any problems re scratches or pitting?

Ive always use Speck for my MBP.
And nope no problem what so ever.
Sometimes dust can build up inside the case so just take it off and clean it when you feel like doing so.
Some say that this case scratches the body but I havent seen such thing before.
In fact it protected my Mac from several scratches.

Ive just noticed another possible issue with the speck hard case, and I was going to create a new thread. The tabs that lock the case onto the edges of the laptop cause the lcd lid not to close 100% on the left and right sides of the screen, but it closes flat in the middle near the track pad area. I wonder if this could cause issues with the hinge or put stress on the screen. I read not to use skinz on the palm reset area because the added thickness does not allow the laptop to shut properly due to tight tolerance. I'd imagine the speck case would be more of an issue than a skin since its throwing off the tolerance between the the screen and the laptop body on the sides but not the middle, where the screen rests when it is shut.

The other day my dumb ass uncle smacked the top of my retina when it was in the speck hard shell in a puma soft pouch. They next day, I noticed a dead pixel. No way to prove if the hard smack killed the pixel, but it also made me notice any added pressure to the screen while closed could stress the lcd due to the speck locking tabs.

What do you guys think? Anyone else notice this as a possible issue?

The Speck SmartShell case for the retina Macbook is a piece of ****.

The corner tabs always break. My first one, the tabs broke after a few weeks of use. My replacement broke within a week of getting it. It's a thin case but it's not durable.
