I did read the directions and iirc, it didn't say anything about how often you need to clean it. If it did, I know I would've remembered.

I just re-read mine... There were instructions... If you really want, I'll take a picture of the sheet to show you.

Why would you take your ignorance out on the company? I take mine off once a week to clean the entire MBP, and it's in pristine condition, even when I fell and dropped it down the stairs. The speck case saved my computer's life. Just use your common sense next time and you won't have these problems.

Is there a study or poll on how effective the Speck cases are in protecting the MBPs from drop/deformation?

I trusted my Speck hard case on my MBP. I carry MBP in my messager bag and never had any small dent or scratches. Thank you Speck :)

For how long have you been doing that? I am trying to decide whether or not to buy the case.

I just got my new Macbook Pro in December, and I knew that I would need a case to protect my investment. I found that the Speck hardshell case was a great choice. I've read a ton of stories of people who had it and it saved their Macbook when they dropped it. I even read a story on Apple's site where someone got in a car accident and the Macbook was spotless because of the case.

So I got my case a few days after I got my Macbook. I took a damp wash cloth to clean my Macbook (avoiding ports and other exposed areas, of course) and dried it off, then did the same to the case, so that no dirt would get trapped inside of it. I put it on and was very impressed! It barely weighed it down and I was glad I could still see the gorgeous brushed aluminum unibody because I chose the clear case.

And then a few days ago I decided I'd use it without the case because I was at home and wanted to see what it felt like again. I thought I'd check to see how nice and spotless it looked after months of use because of the case. To my horror, that wasn't the case at all.

...
Why? How?

Not once did I ever drop my Macbook, maybe a light toss of it on my bed but it would've hit the bottom anyway (which by the way, has no marks at all). So why would these marks happen? I can understand dirt getting caught in it but when I took it off there was nothing that would cause the 3 holes or the dent, and I shouldn't have to clean dirt out of it every 2 weeks to keep marks from happening.

I bought this solely to protect my Macbook, but it would be in better condition if I never put the case on anyway!

Is there anything that I can do about this? I seriously doubt that Speck would do anything to help, but I don't see how it's my fault when the product I paid $50 for didn't do as it was advertised.

Anyone else who owns one of these, be careful.

Most macbook pro owners will show off their computer with the Al finish. They don't put them in ugly cases like what you did with your computer. If they choose to put in in the case, most will take them out everyday to clean the dust/sand/dirt off so it won't scratch the surface. Since you left it in ofor weeks, it is without any doubt that dust, sand, or rocks got between your case and computer and did some damage. In a sense, it's your own fault for everything and it has nothing to do with the case or te company that makes it. Go to the apple store and take a look at the iphone 4 "bumpers" and you will understand why apple only manufacture a bumper and not a case. Apple also issued an advisory report to iphone4 owners on glass scratch and damages caused by cases.

To protect the Al surface, there is a product called something like Ghost Armor which is commonly used to protect iphones or ipad from scratches.

The scratches and dents are a reminder of yourself and your lack of common sense.

The first thing I noticed was a slight mark on the front side.

Not a big deal. Annoying but it's not anything that major.

Then I took a look at the lid.

I found 3 'pinhole' (?) marks near the bottom of it.

How in the hell did that even happen?

But then the thing that really pissed me off, a DENT.

How many of you have the MBP saved by the Speck case?

The unibody case is fragile. Can the Speck case really save the MBP's case from deformation? How many of you have the MBP saved by the Speck case?

My friend has a Seethru Satin one and it definitely helps against accidentally scratching and light bumps.

I recall 2-3 years ago some users mentioned that when they were trying to remove their case, it scratched the MBP because the case was very difficult to remove. Any experience or opinion on this?

I think the cases are pretty good on the whole, they've worked well for me. I'm on my 3rd one as the plastic tabs are always braking when I take it off for cleaning.

Keep meaning to look for alternatives.

Are you kidding me?
Speck cases are mainly for scratch protection not drop a freaking rock and it will be safe.

I've had my speck case for over a year and protected my MBP from multiple scratches. Without this case, my MBP lid would be all scratched up.

Again, this cases main purposes is to protect it against scratches.
It will not be guaranteed to protect against a coffee cup dropped on.

Any video on people testing the case? Dropping two MBPs at the same height. One with the case and the other without.

Speck cases have grown into the accepted mid-priced choice for Apple gear via heavy marketing, and having a presence in the Apple Stores.

Far from ideal, they serve the purpose of the average person that has moderate expectations and has never experienced true high quality.

For those of use who value our Macs and have no problem spending some money, far better choices are available. I have a wide selection of cases for variety, and to break up the boredom of using the same case every day.

A little research reveals that there are a lot of great choices for those discerning owners.

Which cases do you talk about? Please share/elaborate :D

There are some great choices in this list. You get what you pay for.

As far as a sleeve to protect your computer within a loose bag, or when simply carrying it from the car into your office or coffee shop, Waterfield sleeves, hand made in San Francisco by sfbags are simply the very best.

The owner and staff use and specialize in Apple laptops & gear, therefore they produce products that are designed to very exacting standards when it comes to fit. Unlike the average "loose" sleeve, Waterfield sleeves are snug, made of the finest material and incredibly long lasting.

Some of mine are more than five years old, have traveled world wide with me and look as good today as ever. A good case is very satisfying to use, protects my MacBook Pros & Airs, and keeps them scratch and ding free.

Cheers... :)
