It is damn hot already does it need to be closed more? Not my idea

Use this software: SMCFanControl Apple's default setting for the MacBook and MacBook pro are dangerously low IMHO. Again though does it cover the base of the laptop? If so people should stay away from this product at all costs. Apple designs the system to channel heat away from the core components through the base of the device. Its how it was designed. Covering that up would be "bad". And if you folks are fuzzy on the whole good bad thing try to imagine all life as you know it stopping instantaneously and every molecule in your body exploding at the speed of light. That's bad.

Heat for me has been the same with the Speck on. It has vents on the bottom and i think it channels the heat well.

I guess I had the same problem with my spec case, it would not fit the bottom portion, it would not fully clip on the side where the super drive is. I promptly took it back to my Local :apple: store and they replaced it no questions asked, and then they replaced it again, and again. I went through three of these cases before I gave up, I figured I would just wait, and get one that fit proper. I am going back tomorrow to see if I can get one. I do feel that once I get a good one I will keep it cause it does offer supreme protection besides my Pelican case.

Are the people buying these off Ebay just buying what looks to be knockoffs? I don't see any name brand versions which are any cheaper then a retail store listed on there.

Seems like something worth getting a brand for so you can hold someone accountable for on the off chance the plastic discolors, or any of the issues people are describing occured.

Try Amazon. I got the aqua colored one for about $34 from ANTonline. (in new condition)

I got the black one from Amazon as a spare. Alas it does not fit, but it is definitely the genuine article.

I can also confirm that the Speck case, contrary to what you might expect, has no effect on heat. Temperatures are the same whether it is on or not. This convinces me that heat escapes via the unencumbered vent at the back and through the keyboard. Clamshell mode with the lid closed seems to me to be much more risky from a heat perspective than the Speck case on.

Mine is exactly the same. The upper case fits like a glove - really nice and snug; but the right hand side of the lower case side bows out slightly so that the clip brushes the side of the laptop instead of wrapping over the top. I was in my local Apple Store today and they peeled the wrapping off three trying to help me find a good one, but they were all more or less the same. I got the best of the bunch, but it still isn't right. However, I needed the protection as my lappie gets carted all over the place, so went with what I could. I've only had it a day, so I'll see how I get on. If the case becomes loose or lets in too much dust, I'll return it and get my money back. Consumer laws are quite strong in the UK about manufacturing defects.

I got a real Speck Red for MBP on eBay for $11. I didn't really want red, but i didn't wanna pay $30+ for another one. The red still looks pretty sweet.

Heres some pictures

It's hard to see how it wouldn't - the clips have got to slide over the plastic before clamping around the edges. However, alumninium is made of sterner stuff than polycarb in this (and about the only) instance!

BTW, Phungy, your avatar rocks!

Looks horrid imo, id much rather have an invisible shield for scratch protection and a slip in case for traveling.

does anyone know how to take the speck case off? Mine fits so well that when I try to take it off it seems like it will break. Is there a special technique?:apple:

I watched someone next to me try and remove one at an Apple Genius Bar and it made the worst plastic ripping in half sound when they tried to pull it off. They did eventually get it off, intact, but it sure looked like a scary process unless there's a trick to it. I might have bought one if I hadn't seen that.

That's a problem with those Speck cases, you don't want to be putting it on and off or you'll scratch your laptop. I've had mine for 6 months and now noticed scratches on my laptop from dust getting in even though it was cleaned before attaching case. If you move your laptop around a lot the Speck case is sure to get scratched and it also doesn't look so good. I wouldn't buy this case again.

I've just taken my Speck Case off for the weekend.

Every time I do this it hurts so much, fearing it will shatter and scratch my macbook pro.

I have also noticed small scratches along the side of my laptop.

I plan to buy a new neoprene case for my laptop soon because for the past month i have had the speck case it has damaged my laptop. Also with the speck case on it looks awful imho.
