I have a chance to buy an iPad A16 MD4P4LL/A, 11th Generation, 256 gb. It is used but shows the warranty good on the serial checker until March 2027.

There is a small speck under the glass (see photo attached).

Do you think Apple will cover repairs for thus? I see their basic warranty it says:

“The basic Apple One-Year Limited Warranty is tied to the device’s serial number, not the owner. If you sell or gift the iPad, the remainder of the active warranty automatically transfers to the new user. [1, 2]

Key Details About Your iPad Warranty:

  • Coverage: It covers hardware defects in materials and workmanship for one year from the date of original retail purchase.
  • Proof of Ownership: You do not need the original sales receipt to get service, as Apple identifies coverage using the device's serial number.
  • Checking Status: You can easily check the active warranty status of your iPad by entering its serial number on Apple's Coverage Checker. [1, 2]”
I’d pay about $300 for it (new they’re about $400). Is thus safe? Should I just wait for the release of the 12th generation (coming soon I think)?

Let me know your thoughts.

I could be wrong but, that looks like a dead pixel. If so, Apple may fix it. I have read stories on here where an Apple Genius told the owner it would take several dead pixels. You will need original proof of purchase if you want any repairs done.

I don’t have the original proof of purchase. I supplied Apple with the serial number and they are sending me a repair kit to mail it in. Their email says it seems to be covered?

You think I should not buy it? I am unsure if a dead pixel is a manufacturer defect?

I am also debating if I should just wait for the 12th generation ones later this year?

Let me know your thoughts. Getting this for our 11 year old granddaughter.

I wouldn't pay for an iPad you know has a problem out of the box.
Yeah, I felt the same way - just seemed like a good deal for our granddaughter. She had our old 6th generation 32gb and the screen glass got broken. Thought this may be a way to future proof things for her. Also hoped it may be fixable.

You think I should just bypass this, have her 6th generation fixed, and await the release of the newer models later this year?

And thanks for your response!

I would not buy that iPad, especially at that price. I also think you are over-spending for a 1 year old. You don't need 256GB of storage. In my opinion, you should seek out last years base model.

Thanks for the reply. She’s 11 years old (my typo 😂). And by last years model do you mean the 10th or 11th generation fixed?

I would just recommend buying the base model iPad with 128GB. If she's used to 32GB, 128GB should be plenty, especially for a kid. It's frequently the same price on Amazon as the one you were looking at with the screen issue.

I would seek out a 10th gen. unless you get a real good deal on the current base model. If she uses it a lot and takes care of it, I would consider upgrading her a few years down the road.
