Speck's FitFolio for the new iPad out! and it aint pretty

thanks for the vid although you do sound a bit awkward lol. but really helpful.. and I can see the advantages of the Switcheasy canvas' velcro!
I wonder if Speck is going to make a Magfolio too (non lounge)

Thanks for the video - so much good information. Sounds like Speck is falling short with their new cases both with lack of good quality on the Fitfolio and poor functionality on the Pixelskin.

Thanks for the vid. Looks like I'll be keeping my Incase Magazine case and returning the FitFolio. Kind of a bummer since I had pretty high hopes for this case. Oh well.

Any chance we could see your videos so we can see how to do it properly!? He sounded bored in places, but definately not awkward! It was actually a very informative video, and i'm VERY glad he posted it up as it potentially saved me a wasted purchase.

I know you may reply saying you weren't having a go, but I just thought there was no need to critise :)

relax it wasnt a criticism and i said it was a really informative video.
 
Yep, mines going back. Just got it in the mail today. The fit/finish ain't quite there on this case. Looks like I'll be sticking with my Incase Magazine jacket instead.
 
Got this case along with the magfolio lounge. I really want to like the speck cases but man this 3rd gen round of cases is so inconsistent. The purple fit folio I got for my wife has pretty big sized gaps around the corners that snap in and it falls right out of the last stand almost immediately. My black fit folio fits slightly better but still has other issues with the stand, etc...

The magfolio lounge is better but I'd really like to try the regular magfolio whenever it releases as I think the way it utilizes stands could be better executed.

I'm stumped really, speck makes some killer iPhone cases I don't know why their iPad cases can't be just as good :confused:

Yep, noticed the exact same thing about the fit with the plaid version I got. The fit with the black one I got was better as well, but both fall out from the last stand position very easily. You can just look at it wrong and it crumbles. :confused:

indeed, I have a speck iphone case, pretty nice! its a smaller version of that pixel HD skin essentially!

so i assume you prefer the devicwear ridge over the fitfolio?
 
I'll be returning mine because of the unstable stand positions. That is my only issue with this case.

with out seeing it in person, can't tell if the plastic shell part is nice on both (or cheap on both), or if the fitfolio also has the curved edges.. the main difference seems to be the plastic snap closure on the Speck versus the magnetic one on the Ridge

I just played with this and the new Xtrememac Carbon Fibre Micro Folio for the iPad 3 (it's showing as 'Coming Soon' on their site, but I found one in store), and I reluctantly have to conclude that currently shipping FitFolios are better.

Yes, the FitFolio is thicker, flops open into 'stand mode' rather easily due to how the stand has no retention mechanism to secure it to the back of the case (a la the Canvas), and is expensive. But at the same time, it doesn't slide around and trigger the unlock mechanism on its own, nor does it flop open, and the sample I've been fiddling with doesn't have the material separation issue (yet) that have been noted in other reviews.

The Carbon Fibre Micro Folio is a polycarbonate backing with a fake Carbon Fibre finish, but the same sort of front as the original Micro Folio... which means it slides around a little, if not as badly as the Switcheasy Canvas' front does. It also seems a bit better laid out than the FitFolio is (which doesn't appear completely on-centre with the port cutouts, although the button and mic cutouts are nearly perfect). The Micro Folio also uses the same lip-style retention mechanism of the Microshield SC (which means the lip only goes over the edges on the long sides, while leaving most of the top edge uncovered), but covers more of the top and bottom of the iPad (save the speaker and sync port areas).

Still, it's not as bad as made out in a lot of reviews. I certainly would rate it higher than the Smart Case (which doesn't protect nearly as well, although the latter is much lighter).
