You know, that wouldn't be half bad. If Intel bought NVIDIA, there would be no reason for them to continue producing their retarded Intel GMA-graphics and could switch those out for NVIDIA graphics instead.
That would also make sure that NVIDIA gets the proper lincensing and stuff to manufacture motherboards and stuff for the Nehalem line of processors.

Everybody wins!

I hope Intel doesn't just eliminate the NVIDIA name..

Intel X5000 compared to NVIDIA 9400M or something.. it'd just make the GPU sound crap.

Would be great if they keep their names as they are

I would be happy if they buy NVidia so there are no license problems but i already got super used to names like 9600GT and so on, it would be crap if they start naming them like "X5616854346546GT"

Won't Happen, at Least for Now

It won't happen. Intel is simply too proud to admit that it doesn't have the talent in house. Look how long it took Intel to integrate the memory controller into its chips, something AMD had for years. Look how many years Intel delayed before instituting 64-bit capabilities after AMD successfully brought out AMD-64 extensions. Intel's attitude is that if they didn't invent it, it's either no good or makes no economic sense. If Intel bought nVidia, they'd be eating a lot of crow, having laughed at the AMD-ATI deal. They'd also be admitting that they don't have the chops to produce high quality video chips. Unless they run the risk of losing considerable x86 chip market share, they'll plod along with the GMA and Larrabee architectures. The real test will be AMD's introduction of the Bulldozer chips in 2011. These bring integrate the PCIe bus and a relatively high end video chip on the same silicon as the CPU. This is a potential rebound for AMD in the x86 market. If Intel perceives it as another Athlon success, they then might consider buying nVidia. But I don't see it before then.

The IGP going on the CPU isn't a rumor. It's coming out in a couple months. By the end of 2010, Intel will have switched basically all their IGP systems to have the IGP in the CPU (when a system has an IGP; obviously high end CPUs won't bother with an IGP.)

The still-rumor part is nVidia developing a CPU.

And Larrabee (the "technology") isn't going away. Larrabee (the "commercial graphics card") isn't even going away completely with this announcement; it's just being delayed to rev 2 of the technology. In short: Intel realized that by the time their first product would actually hit the market, it would be impossible to sell as a graphics card; so they're going to wait for rev 2 (or possibly later,) for the graphics card variant.

Rumors have it that the technology side was being developed for more than just use in graphics cards, so those other uses will likely still be produced, even with rev 1.

Arrandales going to suck, not the CPU part. But the extra excuse it gives OEMs to stay with GMA.

I hope Fusion is AMD's miracle.

I hope this doesn't happen. Nvidia actually has good products right now. Intel will probably just ruin it. Intel probably doesn't care as much about the video card division (GeForce/Quadro) as Nvidia's CUDA architecture.

No way it will happen, folks. Intel is getting reamed in Europe and the U.S. by the appropriate government authorities for predatory monopolistic behavior in violation of antitrust laws. No way the government(s) permit Intel to snap up such a big player in the graphics industry, particularly given the trend of integrating graphics and cpu.

Furthermore, nVidia denies it, but I know for a fact they are working on a CPU capable of running x86 code. (Their denial is technically accurate, but misleading). The FTC isn't going to let Intel kill off potential competition in the CPU market, either.
