Speed up startup time...

Is there a way to speed up startup time in a MacBook Pro... ?

I have 4GB and I'd like to see 30 sec. boot-ups as opposed to the 50 sec. I am getting in the rare occasions I have to cold boot.

By the way, can anyone explain why Apple has decided that updates now require to restart the computer. It was rare under 10.4 but now it's almost every time under 10.5. *sigh*

I always thought more RAM = longer boot, since the OS has to address it all.

I haved maxed out RAM on my MBP: 4GB (2 x 2 matched pair) and boot time to the login screen takes ~17 seconds, which apparently is not bad compared to what some others are reporting.

So 2), 3) and 4) should be performed in main system while booted in the secondary system, correct?

step 4 is boot into the install DVD and then step 5 boot into the secondary system again.
