I am also on HSPA+ and I'm getting 12 Mbps down on my 5. My wife is getting 6 on the same network with her 4s. Not sure why its different but I am happy. That is great for non LTE.

Yea AT&T is awesome you now get over 10 Mbps down in practically every area AT&T has coverage. Once your out of LTE with Verizon your down to thier crappy 1 Mbps CDMA coverage.

I'll take awesome data speeds everywhere over slightly more LTE coverage anyday.

It is really interesting how much faster the HSPA+ speeds are for iPhone 5 users. I'm surprised there isn't more attention for this by AT&T customers thinking about switching over to Verizon, like me.

Why are they so much faster than what we can get with the 4S? Does the 5 have faster HSPA+ radios, better antenna design, or what?

I remember using my original iPhone on edge and taking 10 minutes to do the most simple things and thinking it was amazing. Now mobile internet is basically instant and faster than my home wifi.

It would be helpful if ppl posting results would list their location as well.

Here is mine in northern Cincinnati. Crappy...and it was the best result I got by far. Most were 7 down and 4 up.

I'm getting about the same in Cleveland but with Verizon. Maybe it's an Ohio thing?

I use speakerphone and surf the web and check things using data all the time. To not have it would be crippling. There is no way for Verizon people to say it doesn't matter.

I am getting faster speeds than the image he linked and I'm on AT&T.

I just can't lose the ability to use voice and data at the same time

Interesting HSPA+ results. I would have expected the same results on the 5 and the 4S. Anyone know what is going on?

Exactly. Verizon's 3G network speed is just awful and it's starting to look like their LTE network isn't much faster in most areas than at&t's HSPA+ network.

Can anyone on Verizon chime in on how vast the LTE coverage actually is, real world use (not coverage maps)?

Newer technology, more efficient chip? Either way, that's definitely a reason for most at&t 4S users to upgrade since at&t's LTE network is hardly anywhere as far as US coverage goes.

Near Chicago, included both LTE and wifi for comparisons sake.

It's because Verizon is rapidly expanding without giving its LTE a good backhaul in order to get around 10-20Mbps and compete with AT&T which has a large HSPA footprint already.

And fast uploads too.
(Sorry, on iPhone couldn't upload 2 pictures at once)

I'm getting around 30-45/8-13

at&t Dallas. I know we all love to bash telcos for rates....but since the overwhelming majority of their reinvestment goes into faster data rates - it's a nice payoff.

I am absolutely blown away at these speeds! Holy mother of god! Some of these are 3.3x faster than my home Wi-Fi!:eek::eek:

Since LTE probably isn't going to hit my area until early next year, these reports that the 5 is getting nearly double the speed of the 4s with AT&T's HSPA+, are nice to hear. I'm actually picking up a 5 today at the AT&T store and I'd be thrilled to get 10mbps+ on 3/4g, until LTE hits my city.
