I actually enjoy most (not all) of br0adbands posts. Sure at times he can get heated, but for the most part I feel he brings something tangible to the forums, which is more than I can say for the "cool story bro" and "quit your whining" posts.

^^^ THIS ^^^

In addition, unless one of you geniuses plan on fixing my phone, I'm planning on complaining long, loud and everywhere until Apple at least acknowledges that it has a problem that it intends to fix and when I can expect my phone to work at least as well as a $30 Go Phone if I have the case off. I don't make the kind of money that allows me to piss away a few hundred on defective products and so far that includes the iPad and the iPhone 4. Also, there are specific reasons I bought them instead of a Droid and I'm not returning them. I want them fixed.

This. I can't believe the amount of people who are willing to neglect what is in front of them. People willing to bend over backwards and empty their wallets to accommodate.

"Quit your whining..." or "just return your phone already" is getting really old too. You don't deliver flawed products and expect your customers to work around them. No accountability.

actually "just return your phone already" does give them accountability. It's really the only thing that materially does.

If you've been lurking that much you'd know that this question has been asked many times before. No one really has an answer.

I said that I have read thousands, not ALL.

Thanks to brOadband for a professional and well explained answer.

When your losing an arguement, deflect with spelling/grammer mistakes.
YOUR DUMB YOU SPELLED A WORD WRONG!

Did you mean:

When you're losing an argument, deflect with spelling/grammar mistakes.
YOU'RE DUMB YOU SPELLED A WORD WRONGLY!

Sorry but couldn't resist replying! People who live in glasshouses really shouldn't throw stones! ;) :)

AAPL's amount of liability amounts to "hold it differently"or "Buy a bumper". Unacceptable, Nintendo understood that their first Wii remote strap was seriously flawed launching remotes into televisions and possibly into other people.

Nintendo claimed accountability and issued free wii remote straps to all who requested them.

No accountability from AAPL. AAPL repsonse- All cellular phones loose signal if you hold them in the right spots. Sure, other phones might loose signal but not as dramatic as an ip4.

Just as a side note of sorts, and because so much focus - even by me - is on Spencer's two primary posts (both in the first post in this thread), a lot of people - even me - may have missed out on his other lines of thinking in his other posts at his website.

This one is one I just read, and I gotta say that (trying not to toot my own horn too much here, seriously) he touches on almost all the things that I've mentioned and speculated/theorized on over in that Occam's razor thread. He's just far better at stating his position and theory in a much smaller more efficient manner... I have to give him credit for that as he deserves it.

Having said that, if you're still interested in this whole fiasco, and you're not so inclined to read my overly worded overly redundant Occam's razor theories, then read this instead:

http://www.antennasys.com/antennasys-blog/2010/6/26/hey-hold-the-phone-like-this.html

I'm quite proud of the info I presented in the Occam's razor thread, and I've had many people thank me for it so, that makes all the effort - and putting up with the backlash from people on Side 3 constantly - worth it in the long run.

And the snowball keeps rolling faster and getting larger... ;)

I liked the parts that were readable in your Occam's Razor thread, but next time don't launch into 4 paragraphs describing the entire plot of a movie just to say what Occam's Razor is. :) A simple definition would have been fine, then move on.

Oh come on, where's the fun in that? :D

Nope. There were two people there, and each used each iPhone with their left hand (or at least covering the strip). One iPhone worked fine for both people regardless of how it was held and one did not.

What's the date of the podcast you're referring to? I would imagine it is the one of 06.26.2010. Could you advise the approximate minute where they run the test?

(why would I buy a sleek phone only to put a case around it?)

Because it's slippery and it can break if it falls on a hard surface or clips a corner of something? It spends 99% of its time in utility mode and not in "show off" or "pause and admire" mode, so you choose to protect it against accidents?

Sleek phone indeed, but gravity and Mr. Newton are tough task masters.

To the OP,

I did not write about Mr. Spencer's qualifications as an engineer, only about his putting out information when he does not have all the facts. His report is un finished even by his own standards and therefore should not have been written nor posted on his blog. He himself said that he now needs to get bumpers or a case see what the results will be. Until that is done the info is worthless unless you are just on an ego trip.

He also has not posted anything new, just a rehash of old items again giving the idea of an ego trip.

For your info I have the issue with my phone but have it in a case so it is a non-issue to me. Like many others on tis forum we are just getting tired of the constant bashing of this phone on this easily cured issue. This can be seen by several posts even in this thread.

No I won't just move along

Hold on. His results are "worthless" until he tests with a case? Care to elaborate on this? Granted, it will be interesting to understand whether a case solves the problem, but I would say that his findings so far are very very useful in confirming that a reception problem exists. Especially for me because I have little interest in spending money to cover my Iphone 4's unique industrial design that I paid a premium for.

I continue to wait for someone to explain how, if it's a design flaw rather than a manufacturing defect, some users have been able to eliminate the problem by taping/trimming the sim and others have seen the problem disappear with replacement phones. Keep in mind these are the same individuals inthe same locations.

…or explain why some have never had the problems, no matter what location they’re at or what the signal strength is. For all we know, this describes the majority of iPhone 4 owners, but with all the noise being made here by the ones that have the problem, no one would be able to tell.

No I won't just move along

When did these forums become an avenue for an OP to post his opinion, and then tell everyone to move along when they don’t agree with him? There are a lot of people I know who won’t even bother coming into the iPhone forums, because of what they’ve become in the last few weeks.

LOL..."the last few weeks"? Seriously? It all seems pretty much the same to me, there's just more of it. Let's start with the "...whine...." in your sig, for example...

Yes, there is just more of it. The iPhone forums have never been great, but they seem much worse, which was my point.

The “whine" in my sig? That refers to a comment by a member that they have to whine more about this to get something done. I certainly don’t agree with it, if that’s what you’re saying.

Unfortunately, any issue with an Apple product is considered a "whine" by a sizable percentage of the members here, and increasingly the most popular answers from these members is "quit whining" or "return it and get off this forum." That really doesn't do much to address what appear to be real issues affecting some iPhone 4 users.
