I never said I expected my credit union to be on board out of the gate. That's not reasonable. I said I was disappointed that the branch manager didn't even know what it was, and disappointed that she couldn't tell me that they were at least exploring it. That is reasonable.

That said, this e-mail was reassuring, and I'm satisfied with the knowledge that they're planning on implementing it in the future. I'm well aware that there are a lot of hoops for the bank/processor to jump through, and if I weren't willing to wait, I'd bank with one of the behemoths instead. No. Thanks. Even when I worked for one of the giants on the list, I still banked elsewhere.

I really like my credit union, I like the personalized service, the rates, and the member benefits. I also like supporting a locally operated institution. That's all important to me. The security (and ease) of Apple Pay is important too, but I'm willing to wait for it.

As for the length of the discussion, obviously it wasn't meant to be that long, but they were asking questions and looking things up, and sometimes that's how discussions go. Should I have cut them off after ten minutes because it should only have taken that long? I went in when I had time to talk, so we talked. No big deal.

Just an update. I got this e-mail reply to the comment card I also submitted, at the branch manager's suggestion.

So hopefully, I'll be seeing Apple Pay on my everyday debit and credit card by this time next year. This delay is the price I pay for the personalized service and other benefits of banking with a small local credit union.

Thats pretty good all considering. You cant expect them to keep pace with the big boys in things like this. They just dont have the over bloated manpower or budget to deal with it.

Thank you for bringing it to their attention! It's nice to hear stories like this, even though it's a shock to others. Yes, some people can be friendly and help others out (even large companies).

Look forward to hearing updates as to how they roll out updates.

Thanks again

Yeah, at least yours responded somewhat favorably, where as mine went on a tirade about how Apple sucked and was not secure and was having so many problems with the launch, then said Apple pay was not live for another week or two, when it had been live already. Eventually, after telling me how they would never ever ever allow mobile check deposit, told me how they were going to do something for Android devices too WRT mobile Payments and hopefully they would do something in 2015 ut did not make any promises at all. LOL. And it turns out, my CU is one of the top 3-4 in the whole country, with close to $30 billion in assets!
