On a positive note, I spilled liquid on my macbook pro twice (once water, once sugary iced tea) and it survived both.

I turned it off, took the battery out (I know that's not really an option with your notebook), and flipped it in an upside down U shape by propping it with a pillow or a pile of books.

Good luck! I hope you macbook survives!

Thanks so much, your reply is much appreciated :) thanks for cheering me up though! I actually have some hope now, i'm just anxious to see if it works. Looks like I have to wait 3 days! I've heard people spill coffee and their Macbook still works. Compared to what people have said about their past experiences my laptop has a good chance of surviving. I'm just hoping it will carry out though. Thanks for commenting and helping me out. It's great to hear how others have been through a similar experience and gets out alive lol

Lol 13 year olds do need MacBook's they are the future leaders of tomorrow, plus most teenagers have the ideas that make millions let alone billions.

Your dad is dumb however, if I was him I would have disconnected everything then taken a tweezer and popped each key off the keyboard and cleaned out the board, then using a soft shammie cloth wiping the keys and board down and the trackpad. Using an airspray can as well to dry it out. Just my thoughts.

Way to smack the kids dad. Feel better?

Thanks for your reply. Even though i'm already at the step where I have to let it sit, is it still possible for me to take off the keys or should I have done it before?

sorry to hear.

I always drink next to my computer and even use the palm rest as a nice coaster occasionally.. Knock on wood, I've only had one minor beer spill which didn't do anything.
I just kept using the computer like nothing happened and assessed the situation later the next day.. I opened it up to check the logic board etc.. everything was fine.. This was not a unibody though.. so your damage may vary.

Name me three health benefits of consuming Coca-cola and I'll happily retract my statement. The human body was never created to consume something so processed...

:)

Sorry, I don't have time for goofing around. All i'm focused on at the moment is fixing my computer.

sorry to hear.

thanks for your help. if i may ask, what is the palm rest?

also, I want to check the logic board and open my whole laptop up and try to fix this, but it's no job for a little 13 year old kid. also, if i were to do this my warranty would automaticly be void.. :(

This is why children shouldn't have Macbooks.

this helped a lot. thanks a lot for your ignorance.

Step 1: Your computer is ****ed the only thing that will fix it now is money.
Step 2: ????
Step 3: Profit.

Thanks for stating the obvious,
the reason i'm posing this in the first place is to recieve possible help instead of getting let down. if your not willing to help please don't post.
at least i take action for something I've done and try to fix it on my own instead of asking my parents to just "buy me another one" since we don't have billions of dollars to spent on laptops.

The rudeness in this thread is hard to believe. It was an accident. It wasn't necessarily because of the OP's age.

If you feel like 13 year olds shouldn't own Macs, whatever, that is your own opinion.

But there is no need to come on here and yell at them, or call them or their parents stupid. Grow up.

The original poster is just asking for help. If you don't want to help, there is no need to turn this into a "kids shouldn't own fancy computers" post and use it to bash someone.

below the keyboard where your hand kinda rests while your typing, to the sides of the trackpad.. It's not the best place to set a drink but sometimes It's the only spot available.

anyways.. If you just open the computer to look inside, I'm not sure it will void your warranty. I think it only voids if you remove the battery and "break the tape" or something because they let users install ram by themselves.. but I'm not positive, maybe it's best to leave it alone.

Thanks for taking the time to write this. I take the blame 100% for it and I learn from my mistakes. I'm just wishing people won't point it out a billions times. I know, i know, I screwed up. But i'm trying my best to take this very seriously as this will be something big as we all grow up with all of this new technology. I'm also trying to learn a little bit here and there, and I probably am not making sense but because of what happened today i'm just shocked. I know I will look back at this at the end and hopefully learned. Hey, we all make mistakes. I definitely should not be saying this about a 1,000 dollar laptop, but because of this it has given me a big wake up call and has - in somewhat - a way made me realize the value of money. I know the average person these days does not have anywhere near that much money to spend on a computer, and i'm lucky that I had a chance to have this experience because it's taught me that i'm very forunate to have this. But I guess I was careless and of course, this, happened.

Oops, I thought you were talking about a different palm rest... I thought I heard that was a product.. ???? ( i have no idea )

Ohhhh, okay. I get you. i'm probably just going to leave the inside of the computer as it is because i'll probably screw something up and nobody in my family is a computer geek. (unfortunately)

I agree...some people are very rude in these forums.

OP...I understand your pain...its really sad to see $1300 going down the drain.
I got my first mac (I shared it with my brother) when I was 14 (i just turned 17)...there is no reason that kids can't use macs or expensive things. Mistakes happen all the time.

You should let everything dry. Sorry to say but I think when your dad plugged it in and charged it I think it may have done some damage.

For future...if you spill any liquid on any electronics (even its water), remove the batter as soon as possible and let it dry for atleast 3 days...do NOT try to turn it on and check as it will mess up things inside.

I hope it works for you. But even if it does, you have lost the warranty and apple will not cover anything for you in the future (and they are right about this)

The damage was done by the battery first most likely. OP, you can probably sell it for parts, or buy a new logic board (probably expensive).

Thanks for your post, this is helpful. Unfortunately I cannot take out the battery because my warranty will be automatically void.

Oh, how I hate Apple sometimes.. they have to be so strict, but I guess they have to because that's how things go now a days.

If it doesn't work anymore the only thing to do is probably just sell the whole thing on ebay for parts and at least get some money back. But buying a new logic board is almost as much as buying a whole new Mac... thanks for your help though

LOL at being upset apple doesnt cover liquid spills.

Anyway, the only time I've encountered a coke spill on computer was a little cousin spilling a can into my PC keyboard, i fixed that by running hot soup water through it lol.

Your situation is a bit tricky since its not a basic keyboard, its illuminated etc.
disconnect it, and bring it to get a keyboard. Yes it will cost a bit of money but better than losing the entire machine.

As for ppl calling the kids dad dumb, he's obviously smart enough to make enough money to afford a nice computer for his son. Its funny how ppl always assume ppl with money are "dumb"

i've done this on my old keyboard... things happen, don't let the people who are talking negitively about you. At least you are mature enough to admit your mistakes and want to do something about it.

To me, you are mature enough to own an :apple:. Live and learn, mistakes happen. I am sure you're machine will be fine in the end.

Believe me, your warranty is already 100% null and void. You can do whatever you want to it at this point.

lol @ fixing your keyboard :) as for my situation, how am i to disconnect the keyboard?
Oh and again i'm a girl..

All I can do at this point is just wait for the laptop to dry. I've heard people saying to wait 3 days, but people are saying to wait even more. I want to be sure I wait long enough because if I don't it can result in the whole machine breaking.

It doesn't matter how long you wait; the liquid immersion sensors will have already changed color. Your warranty is toast.
